the less features you give the player the less things they have to complain about if those features are not perfect. that's what i'm talking about.

in the witcher you couldn't kill civilians - nobody cared.
you couldn't talk to them and they didn't have routines - nobody cared
no police ai - nobody cared.
you couldn't create your character (but you could change hairstyle) - nobody cared
no different cars to drive - nobody cared.
no life paths - nobody cared.
no deep progression system - nobody cared.

now they added those things (some of them better than others) so you are giving the people ammunition to bash the game if they are not happy with how those system works. the lesson here is remove them unless you can implement those systems in a perfect way. nobody will complain about things they never knew
No, the lesson is to ignore people's bitching and make the game as good as it can be. Why the fuck would you rip out features just because some losers on a message board complain about them being buggy?

The game sold that well not because it was superb (it's great, I like it), but it was riding through the goodwill and success of their Witcher games.

Now that they have damaged those goodwill severely, their next game will not meet that numbers anymore until they fix all their mistakes. This is the same phenomenon with Star Wars ep7, which everyone was hyped about and has fantastic opening. Turns out it was alright, then 8 butchered it, and 9 buries it. Now thr Star Wars movies are met with tons of skepticism and negative reception. The movie merchandise aren't selling well too.

So CDPR shouldn't celebrate so early, as they are met with investor's lawsuit (Wolf haldenstein law firm, very top tier, they are serious) and dropping share price. Ceo just lost a billion (I'm sure whatever bonus he fot for meeting dateline isn't a billion).

Lesson: Never see initial great sales built by years of goodwill as a measure of success. The damage will come soon later.

Or it'll be fixed in a couple of months and the impotent frenzy on the internet will have been forgotten about as usual.

I played 54 hours in 2 weeks on PC.

had a good time with the game even though I feel like there are a lot of missed opportunities that could have made this a great game...

Upgrading and tuning cars is what I am missing the most...

I would have loved to see more options for homes, apartments, etc.

NPC and Police behavior is the most immersion breaking thing in the game.
Sometimes you acciedentally sprint into an NPC and everyone around ducks for cover and screams....
Police just spawns next to you and disappears when you drive around one block
Enemies know where you are at all times, if they have seen you once.

I will keep an eye on the game and it's updates. There is still so much potential in it and I would love to have reasons to keep playing.

Even though all the negatives, the city feels alive and has a fantastic atmosphere. The game has a great story, the shooting is fun.

Console experience is just tragic... Last gen consoles struggle with performance, next gen consoles run the last gen versions which run fine but look like garbage. Sigh, I understand everyone who claims that refund.

Im both happy and sad with this result

Happy because the game is succesfull

Sad because of the messed up launch on consoles

Hopefully they can do better next time for their next game

Their next game will be Witcher and sell a ton again. Your comparison with SW is terrible. SW just took a shit direction, butchered Luke and just couldn't capture the magic of the original.

Cyberpunk simply had a botched launch on weak consoles. The recent patch improved a lot. The platform they did prioritize runs the game perfectly well. Sure there are bugs and glitches but nothing gamebreaking.

60+ hours in and I want more.

Cannot capture the magic of the original? That's the take a whole lot of people thinks too, Cdpr cannot capture the magic of Witcher.

"Simply botched launch?" what an absolute moronic take, it's called defective product.
"I encountered nothing gamebreaking so it's all fine" Yeah, me too, but others didn't.
"runs perfectly well?" - now i know you can't be taken seriously.

Maybe Sony, Microsoft, and Gamestop all accepting refund were just teasing with Cdpr eh?
Or maybe the investors really have nothing to do and engage a top lawyer firm just for fun and giggles. But sure, stick to your cult mentality.

Despite some obvious warts, the more I sink into the game, particularly the side quests and gigs, the more I really really like it. I think the world building is superb. The city itself is almost a platform on which they can launch future content. Let's see how these next 3 months of fixes go, but if they come through that period OK then I think this game has major rebound potential.

I mean... they lied TO INVESTORS about the performance of the game on base consoles, plus they lied about it being “finished” and “just needing polish” back in Jan (something which employees at CDPR confirmed as false to Jason Schrier). Due to this, they’re now facing a potential class action lawsuit from investors.

Also, I wouldn’t necessarily say they are lying about sales, but I imagine there might have been some creative accounting with the refunds deducted to make the number appear better in an attempt to calm the stock market. For example, a huge amount of people on PlayStation haven’t had their refund yet and apparently nobody has yet on GOG.

You imagine?
Sure.

By all means point out mistakes, eventual lies and shortcomings in Cyberpunk 2077 PR, marketing and in the game itself. No company is above criticism and CD Projekt is no exception. Their behaviour during the TW3 Downgrade debacle was extremely poor, to say the least.

But stick to the facts. Be ready to support your allegations, or you'll be called out. Calling out possible misinformation is not the same thing as claiming CD Projekt did nothing wrong.

Now the facts:

- About sales figures and refunds:
- "
Subject: Disclosure of estimated sales of Cyberpunk 2077
Legal basis: Art. 17 item 1 of the Market Abuse Regulation – inside information
" (source)

"This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts), i.e. the “sell-through” figure, less all refund requests e-mailed directly to the Company by the publication date of this report in the framework of the “Help Me Refund” campaign"

- About employees, plural, accusing the board of lying.

Let's look at what Jason did say (source)

"Developers asked blunt questions about the company’s reputation, the game’s unrealistic deadlines and the relentless overtime in the months and years leading up to the game’s Dec. 10 release."

How many developers asked blunt questions? What percentage of the workforce? What questions were asked? Did people speak in defence of the board?

"One employee asked the board why it had said in January that the game was “complete and playable” when that wasn’t true, to which the board answered that it would take responsibility."

Ah, One employee, singular. That must vet the accusation then. Now let's look at what was said about the game being playable from start to finish and especially who said it and when..

- About the game being "complete and playable"

"
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for at least six years and its team recently hit a major milestone: The entire game is playable from start to finish. It doesn't have all of the proper assets, playtesting or bug fixes in place, but seeing the story come together is a critical step in the development process, Borzymowski said." (source)

Richard Borzymowski , then producer, now Project manager at CDPR, August 2018.

"We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done." (source)

Adam Kiciński, joint-CEO of CD PROJEKT, member of the board, January 2020

"Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the QA Lead for CD Projekt Red – Łukasz Babiel – shared an image of the PlayStation 4 trophy dashboard featuring a 100% completion platinum file for Cyberpunk 2077, alongside the caption “Just a normal day at work.” (source)

Łukasz Babiel , QA lead at CD Projekt RED, not a member of the board, September 2020

Was the producer lying on behalf of the board back in 2018? Could it be they simply mean different things when they say "start to finish" and "complete and playable"?

Those pesky things called facts.

By all means criticize what you feel like criticizing. Be prepared to defend your position with hard facts. And don't tell me I'm a member of "CDPR defence team". If I'm wrong, then you should be able to show I'm wrong by presenting facts.

Simple.

Every metric?
It's one of the biggest launch disaster in terms of quality assurance, the company lost almost half of its market value in two weeks and they even won the trophy for first PS4 game being delisted from the store :messenger_grinning_sweat: :messenger_tears_of_joy: (and that is going to have a strong negative impact on total sales).
It has sold well because this is basically all the goodwill they gained with Witcher 3 at work. The game is great under the roughness and I'm liking it a lot but they need months to put in shape and it should have been delayed again until spring 2021 or better until they could launch the native PS5/XSX versions as well.
Next game people won't trust them and this is their biggest defeat.

1. sell 13 million copies of your buggy game
2. lose $1 billion and tank your stocks
3. ruin your reputation and anger Sony to pull your game out of their store
4. members here congratulate them for their big success

Don't forget 5. the people like yourself who know so so so much about the stock market that they think the founders actually lost one "billion". For your information, until a stock is sold nothing is really lost or gained. The price will fluctuate, up or down.

Is this too much sophistication for you?

Let me make it simple for you. SW = same franchise. Cyberpunk new franchise.

Furthermore after the patch even base PS4 can run it well, of course it's not comparable to high settings on PC. And yes it does run perfectly well on PC, I fucking put 60+ hours in it so I can make this judgment.

Your last paragraph conveniently ignores the game still sold 13mio AFTER REFUNDS, the very thing this topic is about. The fact that this figure is after refunds eliminates your goodwill argument and also shits on your "defective product". Or will you claim 13mio people are playing a defective product or we're all moronic cult members?

Look, I don't think gamers have written off CDPR as a talented dev, Cyberpunk might be rough, and it might not even live up to some people's hopes or expectations even when fixed, but it's definitely not a bad or mediocre game.

But what will never happen again is 8 million people pre-ordering their game sight unseen. And people treating them like they're "different" or "more pro-consumer" than Ubisoft or Activision. They blew that good will. But make good games and people will buy them, just as they still buy games from EA or Bethesda when they're good.

Yeah because it was that bad and broken on base consoles that it has become a case of mass refunding and that was stopped by a platform holder.
Honestly are we denying reality?

if you think sony cares about quality you are the one denying reality. the reason they pulled the game from the store was because cdpr encouraged people to refund the game if they didn't like how it ran. it was money not quality.

broken and shitty games are released every year and they don't get pulled.

It is what I've written, the game became a mass refunding case and was pulled for that because that was not allowed by a platform holder.
It wouldn't have become a mass refunding case if thousands weren't happy about how shitty it was running and playing on base consoles.
And no this isn't certainly a ploy of the media against the game or CD Project :messenger_tears_of_joy: if people were happy they would be playing the game instead of asking for refunds.

it wouldn't have become a "mass refunding" case if cdpr had said "what do you mean it runs bad? it runs great considering how ambitious the game is and it will only get better in a couple of weeks" like every other developer does. but THEY said refund the game.

LOL runs great at 15-20fps on base consoles full of bugs and glitches? There are game breaking progression bugs and even a bug about save games becoming corrupted if you craft and collect too much stuff...
What you're saying about refunds doesn't even make sense. CD Project told people to ask for refunds because they got thousands of complaints, it's not a like a company tells people "you can get a refund if you're not happy" without a reason.
Seriously....you're denying reality. The game needed to be delayed until spring and CD Project destryoyed their reputation because of the greed of certain executives of them.

I would have preferred the game to sell more copies next year after various patches have been released to show companies they can't get away with putting out semi-broken games. I hope Projekt Red learn from this mess.

However, after seeing the ResetEra 'CDPR is a transphobic company' thread, I'm glad the game will have success and big sales as a riposte to outrage and cancel culture and the muppets that support it.

This is an interesting one from my favourite lefty on the forum.

I pre-ordered Cyberpunk as soon as it was available on GOG, and as soon as the DLC is available I will buy that, and as soon as the next CDPR game (Witcher 4) is available I will buy that too.

There is no way I will not support CDPR because they fucked up the console versions. The PC version is largely fine. I am confident they will fix this as much as they can, but my take is that they have basically overcompensated for the downgrade drama of Witcher 3.

There simply is not another game company like them at the moment, from a creative point of view. Who are these amazing artists, writers? There is no individual auteur I can name. They are an auteur company. They make video games that are massive cultural events. Cyberpunk is actually Cyberpunk. I am a fan, and seeing as I am a cynical middle aged English man who is mostly not a fan of anything, I consider this a worthy achievement. So I will continue to support them, and it will be interesting come the paid DLC release to find out how much they sell. I would guess it will sell a lot.

These places accepting refunds was because CDPR told their customers to demand refunds and created a shitstorm, NOT because their product was more defective than Anthem or Fallout 76 or whatever.

NO, because Sonys customer service is so terrible they dont want to give their CS more work and they dont want to give refunds is why they pulled it from the store.

If they gave a rats ass about quality the enormeous amount of shovelware wouldnt be on PSN.

What...are you even talking about? No police what? No cars what?

Being willfully obtuse isn't the way to elevate a game's discussion. I get that you are somehow personally involved and emotional about it. But pretending doesn't help anyone nor babbling.
I think he wants the world to be more of an only decoration like it was in witcher 3.
Because 2077 has more systems, it answers to a higher standard. The police or how civilians behave is terrible and stands out.
But I don't see how they could witcherify3 this game. You can't remove our reduce this systems even more. Especially not in a city game. Witcher 3 had it easier to overlook many issues.

I personally finished the game on pc yesterday. If there was no internet I would not have an idea it is so broken.. but it's not that good even without bugs imo

I've never written them off as bad developers or a bad game. What i mentioned was the squandering of goodwill. The sales was based on goodwill, considering it's majority was preorder and launch day with no players footage allowed.
And people have discovered that Cdpr management has resorted to some deceptive tactics to obsfucate the real issue surrounding the game.
If the game was really like what they say, then they wouldn't be facing this drop in stock and a serious lawsuit from investors.

If they release their next game well, people will still buy it, but they will no longer benefit from goodwill sales until they build it up again.

Next is CP2077 multiplayer, you think people are going to lap this up immediately? I don't think so.

Be more critical of them instead of gobbling up all their bullshit marketing going forward.

Again no one stated that Sony cares about quality and that was the reason it got pulled. There are no good guys among companies. They all care about their financial interests.
It's consumers and gamers who care about the quality of the game it costed them 60-70$.
All of this wouldn't have happened if there weren't thousands of people asking for refunds because they thought the game is broken and unplayable.
And if they think the game is shitty it is certainly not Sony's fault.
Sony simply applied their rules and pulled a game that was creating a mass refunding case for them. That is not allowed by their rules unless the product is labeled as faulty.
But here's the problem is why this happened in first place and I see that some people are incredibly going against reality to defend CDProkects almost as victims, this is laughable.
They simply thought they could run away with a broken release and fix it later but things backfired.
The game should have been delayed until spring 2021.

yes and it's not that i want that. what i meant is no one complained about that and the world was even shallower in the witcher 3. and the world is only decoration in 95% of all open world action adventure /rpgs too however only cyberpunk gets shit for that.

and the reason for that is because it allows you to interact more so people start comparing the game to gta

Except it is better than Witcher in every sense and bugs are not even huge, nothing like Skyrim or even launch GTA5. Hell for people FNV is best game of decade and it was basically unplayable at launch for most due to game breaking bugs. Most of bugs in 77 are just small graphical glitches. 70 hours 2 gameplay bugs and not really huge ones.

As for rest of the post. CDPR instead of EA or everyone else in business aknowledged issues and decided to give everyone who is not satisfied with game state refunds. Contanted every channel to not make problems for customers and on their own platform they even have 30 day return policy regardless if you play game 100 hours or 10 minutes.

I think EA suits are right. Never aknowledge refunds and just move on. Gamers are like leaches and parasites that will latch to something else after a while and they have the same brain not capable of storing memory for more than 5 minutes.

Thing is, they're not an auteur company. Witcher 1, 2, and 3 were all headed by different leads. They're sort of the opposite, a company that just has a deep, vast talent pool and where that collective resource is what makes their games great rather than the stewardship and vision of any particular individuals.

I don't know if auteurs really exist in AAA video games, anyway. Even a Neil Druckman or a Cory Barlog succeed because they have great collaborators. Look at the career of Tetsuya Mizuguchi, as much of an auteur as you'll find in gaming, and there's a start difference between his output at Sega, his output at Q Entertianinment, and now his work at Enhance.

Moreover i already noticed that circlejerk is ending and in month or two this will be "the best game ever" by most. The best fact for that is r/lowsodiumcyberpunk which was launched 4 days after release of 77 starting from 0 build up 100k till yesterday. Official 77 reddit has 700k subs but it was build over literally 8 years. At the rate it is growing it will overtake main sub in a week or two.

Shit i saw plenty of PS4 users who say the shit is overblown. 95% of game you play inside of some buildings and game runs stable 30fps there with decent resolution. It is some city parts that have issues. Not like TW3 didn't have similar issues and run 15 fps in swamps for a good 2-3 months before they patched it.

The most annoying thing is that 90% of circlejerk is by people who never played game in first place and parrot stuff from other trolls. You can literally see it when they spread outright false info because you know if you don't play game then you for sure can't go specifics and any time you do something like this shit gets busted.

"Not and RPG", "lack of traffic", "gameplay is shit" and shitload of other screams of people who don't actually play game.
