We really should stop comparing Rockstar to CDPR. A developer with 15+ years of experience making open world games vs a Eurojank developer who has only made two open world titles

Sales and quality just cannot be compared.

It's an impressive and ambitious game even with all the issues. The fact that millions of copies were being sold when bugs and performance montages were on YouTube already says it all. This doesn't absolve them from their mistakes, but it proves that the game isn't bad, it simply didn't receive the last months of polish, bugfixing and optimization. Which means the game will be incredible sometime next year.

they hyped it up as being the best open world since sliced bread. They fucked up and should have canned the last gen versions 2 years ago. Instead they decided to hide the version from reviewers and deceive people from a version of the game that runs at 15fps. Laughable really. Sony did the right thing removing this, but they are to blame for even certifying it in the first place also. They’ve lost face from this. It’s great on PS5 but still buggy AF.

I highly doubt they are being honest about refund numbers. However, I believe most people don't bother going through the hassle and take it as an L.

Bugs, to a point, are more fun than developers care to admit.

TLOU releases and is soon forgotten. These Cyberpunk bugs, arrow to the knee, T posing...it's meme magic that lasts us for years. It's like the drama happy sad face thing. This is what the people demand.

This explains the popularity of the Yakuza series: deadly serious fights followed by another man in a diaper that needs help.

But good fucking luck trying to sell +10m on first week next time, even if The Witcher 4 turns out to be as good as the 3rd

The silverlining is that they will try to milk this cow dry, so I expect a lot of support for it. They wont just pick the money and run away.

Multiplayer is (was) planned for 2022, and to pull that out they will have to improve the game massively.

13 million and that’s after refunds? Holy shit, nobody can’t deny that’s not impressive. I was just at target and saw a few people buying cyberpunk, people don’t give a fuck.

I mean I care about the state it's in. The problem is I don't know what game to play besides this. It's the usual problem I have, the specific combination of elements this game has isn't something I can go find elsewhere, certainly not in anything I haven't already played.

They will Turn around make cyberpunk great, they will sell a gazillion more copies on next gen, release multi dlc and everyone will forgive them. Hopefully they will come to some senses with the next release and wont provide a buggy mess. Wont be releasing on old hardware anymore i would assume as well.

Probably top out at 20-ish million lifetime. Huge step down from TW3.

Investors probably not too excited by that, hence the dump. But then again maybe they were mostly prepared for the negative impact beforehand.

Whatever the case, is they blew the opportunity to launch themselves into becoming a R* tier dev. Let’s see how bad they squander their gains with the next game.

you guys can wait and see what happens with this game before you come out with these hot takes. I expect it's going to be fixed it's going to be amazing on next gen and the DLCs are going to be mind-blowing.

I wouldn't be suprised the total number of refunds worldwide was less than 500k

Most people don't care.

🤣🤣 You're about 20 years to late for this crap
This is mostly true with people I know IRL....they are on base PS4, they literally don't care about the frame drops etc.

It's def a niche of us that do.

If your game is not buggy in some way then your project wasn't ambitious enough.
This is sadly true, unless publisher didn't care about rushing and give the devs enough time for QA (like Nintendo does almost always).

People complaining about "games releasing with almost no bugs 20 years ago" don't even see how much more complex the games are and are expected to be these days.

BTW, I'll probably get CP2077 next year when it's finally completed, there's probably a whole bunch of people thinking the same so legs are gonna last.

Did Witcher 3 sell 13 million in a week? the answer is no
LMAO so your bet for life time sales is based in 13M first week, where most of the sales was pure hype and hiding the problems, now is where word of mouth will keep the legs, and its not so great for Cyberpunk as it is for The Witcher 3.
TW3 has sold over 50M as of this year. And yeah it’s not coming close to that.
Only The Witcher 3? Official numbers? Where? I must missed.

This really shows how much of a market there is for adult games. The story and content matter really are very adult. This doesn't mean violence and boobies. It means that you have to have some life experience, some mileage on your soul to even be able to appreciate this story. Someone too young in years or experience wouldn't be able to appreciate it.

Dark, serious and sexy is a winning combination.

ALMOST EVERY other video game story seems amateur and even silly compared to Cyberpunk. The story and characters are simply on another level.

Did you think all of a sudden it gone to stop selling after it sold 13 million copies? The answer is no it will keep on selling after bug fixes and patches and there is still the DLC and Multiplayers and next gen update elements too come this game will sell for at least 10 plus years it will do 50 million easily mark my words.

RDR2 did 17M in a week? Or I am misremembering?
I think those guys is wrong, everywhere I see it says the franchise, which makes sense since a year before The Witcher 3 was little above 30M

Of course will not stop selling, but will not have The Witcher 3 legs, I doubt will sell more.

Really impressive, but not surprised, how many days counted? Beats RDR2 for example?

If they have showed the console versions before release they would have lost a few more millions.
That's assuming the average user cares about resolution or framerate, and i contend most don't
Plus if there was more pressure patch 1.05 would probably been ready earlier

I guess we will have to see how legs do. As we have all seen with TLOU2, these controversies do affect the legs of the games.

It is no surprise though that it had a grand opening. Kudos to them for that.

The last of us 2 was n3/4 on Spain last week & climbing.

To me most disappointed has been the super long wait time compared to the quality of the end product, the open world gameplay, quest level design are so basic that there is no reason this should take 5.5 years. They gotta focus on what they do best and understand their limitations so they can deliver a lot more of the things they are great at, then just cut out the things that they are bad at. Larian also had success for their rpgs but they aren't dreaming about to dominate every field, they just focus on what they are great at. End result is loss waiting time between releases, plus a happier fanbase.

At this point I just want them to fix the game breaking bugs and then move onto the substaintial story content they are talking about, I'm sure adding AI and better physics at this point will just spawn new bugs and have their projects being delayed till forever. Not worth it, just accept they aren't good at making city open world work and they will never be rockstar or even ubisoft at that and move on.
