I'm seriously tired of Nintendo (rant)

They are absolute masters at running their business. Everybody validates their strategy. They have zero incentive to change anything. Core gamers are the fallback option for them, they pursue Casuals first and foremost.

They always try to cater to a large casual audience when they release a new console. If it works, they go this route 100%. If it fails, they fall back on their "milking our fans" strategy. Every time they announce a new console, they seduce core gamers with a few games :
Wii U : Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, SMT x Fire Emblem all announced very early
Switch : Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, SMTV announced very early as well

Switch was a huge success for casuals, so actually releasing these games became a waste. They might as well keep them to introduce their next console. They are already thinking this way, you can be sure about it. They will use these "core gamer" games to push sales of a new hardware or hardware revision, as well as Breath of the Wild 2.

I'm relatively newbie on some Nintendo franchise, so I enjoyed Toad and Luigi very much and probably Mario 3D in the future. But fuck you I will rebuy another Wonderful 101, Pickmin, Zelda and company.

Give me new ideas Nintendo, give me more Arms and less Mario 64. Nintendo nowadays it taking too little risk. Sony is basically the new Nintendo. Even Microsoft did better than Nintendo this gen.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
It's a Nintendo philosophy, to sort of reserve their strengths, when they're doing particularly well.

I'm not saying a sucessful Nintendo is a crappy Nintendo, absolutely not. But they will save some energy for times of difficulty.

It's hard to explain. It's a Yamauchi family thing.. there is a proverb that explains it, but I know very little japanese. So I couldn't say out of memory.

I'm still waiting on a Mario or Zelda game that's as magical as Mario 64 or Ocarina, nothing's come close imho. For me, the Nintendo of the 16bit and 64bit gens died a long time ago, they haven't been awful since then, just a bit greedy and soulless compared to old school Nintendo, kinda like Disney since after The Lion king (except Enchanted, that was great). I think they (a long with most of the entertainment industries) forgot why they were in their respective businesses, it never used to be about the money, that was more of a necessity and reward for doing something right, than the be all and end all.

It should be about bringing joy into people's lives and man do we need that right now. I think the people that run these mega corporations need to go on a retreat for a month with no internet access and remember what's important, something like that...

Sorry...why was not being at TGA (I assume you mean The Game Awards?) a middle-finger to Nintendo fans?

I don't know that I ever watch that show expecting a company to have a reveal there or else I take it as an offense (although it is very 2020 that we didn't get an appearance from Geoff's buddy Kojima.)

Wii was Nintendo's last good console in terms of games.
The console was gimmicky but games were on point, novel, expanding on previous franchises, creating or supporting new ones.
Metroid got 2 (!) high quality releases. Even if Other M had bad direction overall, it had good production values.
It had 1 exclusive Zelda and 1 gen-upgrade Zelda. Tons of weird but good games, either with Nintendo's support or without.
Xenoblade Chronicles, huge new IP.
The Last Story, published by Nintendo, one of the good JRPGs that don't rely on anime visuals.

Wii U had some good games but that's when they really started sucking. Low amount of releases, literally no exclusive Zelda, no Metroid, 3D mario didn't have what people want from a 3D mario - freedom. List goes on.

Then the Switch releases, everyone is hype about BotW and says 'Nintendo is back baby' - since when? Just because it might be a good game doesn't fix the fact that this was supposed to be the big Wii U Zelda exclusive. Nintendo went from 2 Zeldas per console to 1. Then we get a neverending series of ports of Wii U games. I had a Wii U - if I bought the game I don't need it again, if I didn't buy it then the Wii U wasn't the reason why, so why buy it on the Switch.

Nintendo died for me a long time ago. There was a time I was still legitimately looking forward to Directs, just to be disappointed again by yet another cute 2D platformer without any depth and tons of amiibos that don't do anything. Now I don't even care anymore. I'm only interested in whatever Monolith Soft produces and the extremely rare large Nintendo game (Zelda, Metroid, 3D Mario) - and even then I don't care too much, given that I didn't enjoy BotW much nor Odyssey, because most of it is repeated snooze content.

I don’t know if « hardcore gamers » went and bought a Switch for Astral Chain but they should have as it was peak Platinum, the best combat system in recent history.

I think most people just expect something that Nintendo will never try to give: cutting edge graphics, mature and edgy stuff, etc. Nintendo does mostly family stuff, games that are enjoyable by everyone while still having some depth and challenge. I hope they never change that tbh.

I had a dream last night. I was participating in some sort of tournament about crafting some stuff hosted by the Kit and Krysta from Nintendo Minute. After some time I had enough of the BS and straight up yelled, "why are you just not giving people what they want, GAMES"

I believe this was a deep insight in my relationship with Nintendo right now. Nintendo milks their IPs like crazy, Lego Mario, AR Mario Kart, now that direct with the theme park, a ton of unnecessary tournaments and a lot more I'm forgetting. And of course all that copyright strikes do not leave Nintendo in a good light either.

But what everyone of course, really wants from them is games. What did we get in the second half of 2020? A Pikmin 3 Port, ROM dumps and a Hyrule Warriors, basically all super low effort and low budget stuff. They did that WHILE investing a ton in toys and I'm seriously tired of this direction. Games should always come first. When was the last time we had a full general direct, fans were begging for mind you? That was more than a year ago.

Now that theme park direct and again, the absence from them at the TGA (Smash is sooo milked right now and I couldn't care less) is the last middlefinger from them to the fanbase this year. Hopefully.

Seriously, I'm so tired of Nintendo. If BOTW2, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 weren't in development right now, it would be a lot worse than the WiiU era and that says a lot. Atleast Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto were sympathic faces of the company and made a ton of wholesome jokes, it was always a joy watching the directs even though game announcements sucked. But now? That Nintendo doesn't exist anymore.

Your opening sentence resulted in me reading the rest of your post in a MLK Jr. voice.

Everything you said I'm in agreement with.

You thought that because Nintendo said it would happen, yet it didn't. This is my frustration as well. I love Nintendo's output, but they said they'd be consolidating and streamlining development pipelines by combining portable and console, and that simply has not happened. I don't know why their out has dropped so much while their profits have soared, it just seems like such an odd thing.
The number of games has remained high it's just the type of games this year was the issue (lot of remakes and ports) 2017 and 2019 had a lot of output so hopefully 2021 is closer to those years.

We were never going to get a Wii U + 3DS level of output as it takes a lot longer to make a Switch game than a 3DS game. That's why the number of retail games from all publishers is going down.

Yeah, got to say I miss those days too. I was very interested in Nintendo during the Wii U years but that interest has been almost completely gone for a few years now. I haven't even bought a Switch and I have no intention to buy it. To be fair though, I haven't bought other new consoles either. Currently I'm more interested in the new SMB Game & Watch than I am interested in Switch.

Hmm, Nintendo's first party output hasn't been particularly impressive this year but I personally believe 2021 is gonna see some big games again.

In the meantime I'm more than happy with the 3th party output on Switch as I just pre-ordered 9 games for the first half of 2021 and only one of em is from Nintendo. But yeah, would really love some confirmation about Bayonetta 3 and maybe Metroid Prime 4. Breath of the Wild 2 is a given for next year imo.

3 of 5 best selling PS4 games aren't exclusives, including the 1.
God of War sold what, 12 million until 2019. Sony was "smashing" their records, not industry records.

Sony 1st party have a very low ceiling and are most games for the moment, not a game that will be remembered (and played) years later. Because of that that their games are cheap, they don't appeal the masses, so your demand is cut short mere months after the launch.
Are you trying to trying to trump the niche man meme? Spiderman, God of war titles selling 20M don't appeal to the masses? Oh lord.

I felt the same 25 years ago. When i realized Nintendo is happy dropping turds after turds with zero production values rehashing games and characters with some ridiculous reasons about why new tech is not included in their games or how they do not invest on production values, etc and all that bs is backed by sales figures that prove they are right from a revenue perspective.
I leave them for playstation and never looked back.

their current offerings are not geared towards me. And that is fine i do not need to buy their games. For me it is like watching black and white movies with no audio. They are fun to a certain degree but that is old as shit and not that fun.

This. Nintendo gets away with everything they do because their fanbase enables them.
If I was an executive at Nintendo I would not improve either.
Sure look at this very thread. Nintendo fans acting like Sony games don't appeal to the masses or sell well. Spidernan absolutely smashed it at launched and continued to sell big the month after. Didn't stop Sony selling it half price another month later or for $20 6 months later. Same with God of war. They're satisfied to make bank without getting too greedy.

This chart is useless. People are just buying the Switch now because they all have a PS4. I got gifted a Switch literally two days ago, I didn't even want it. I sold my original smash switch, my friend gifted me the Animal Crossing switch for some reason. Most of Nintendos' games are shit. I have Smash and Pokemon Sword (Friends forcing me to play). I do not intend to purchase any other games.

The Total World Wide Sales aren't even close:
  1. PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 113,703,751
  2. Switch Total Sales: 65,713,911
  3. Xbox One Total Sales: 48,339,703

Hilarious.

I wonder how many of those 65 million switch consoles were people gifting a switch to someone who doesn't even want one...

I guess we just have different standards. You talk about basic game balance like Im supposed to be impressed by it while I think Nintendo and Game Freak with their billions in the bank should make a Pokemon game with a huge open world. With Pokemons roaming the world on their real scale. A great storyline would not hurt either.

Pokemon has huge potential but the fans are happy with scraps.
You're expecting something different like Nintendo and the Pokemon fans who loves the appeal of the game are supposed to care.

I bought the latest one simply because it is fun to collect and complete the pokedex. Simple as that.

Balance is important, I don't need your low effort "I'm supposed to be impressed" opinion to know the importance of good balance. You just wouldn't enjoy a game it is not so, I mean how retarded could you be to not appreciate this aspect? Oh, maybe you only like pretty graphics and muh production to look at, not play? That seems logic.

And Yay open world.... what's next, maybe a walking simulator with long ass cutscenes in between? Talk about being entitled AF. Go play those games if you enjoy it that much.

This is like expecting me Sony games to not suck in introducing open world bloats just to boost your playtime, also those slow walking sections like I'm supposed to watch a movie inter gameplay.

Your standards are trash btw. Keep up the good work.

Are you trying to trying to trump the niche man meme? Spiderman, God of war titles selling 20M don't appeal to the masses? Oh lord.
It sells purely because of the cut prices compared to its production, which is pretty good appeal for the mass I guess. Try doing that full price though, let's see.

Because their fans will keep buying remakes and ports over and over again. And at full price too even if its years old. Meanwhile years later Sony and MS are selling their games for $10. I'm just glad I'm not a Nintendo fan. Especially one with just a switch but I suspect there aren't many with just that console alone out there.
Everyone is releasing remakes and ports these days. Nintendo is not unusual in this regard.

The probably is the main thing Nintendo do is that. They basically built the switch off the back of the wii u library.
Because those games are good, and pretty much no one could bought the games released on the tiny tiny WiiU fanbase. I would say that this is a win win situation lol.

Talk about being triggered for good games being remastered/remade.

I don't think I will ever be understanding about the limited time limit for Digital games. Apparently they are doing the same for that NES Fire Emblem game and why didn't they put THAT on the NES Online app?

On the other hand, Nintendo fans are ridiculous. Endless speculation from these people and nothing is straightforward. Anything Nintendo does or says turns into speculation, for example 'Does the bad performance of the new Hyrule Warriors game point to a Switch Pro' or similar. No, it doesn't point to a Switch Pro. McDonalds serving a McChicken Biscuit doesn't point to a Switch Pro either.

I have never seen a more unsatisfied player base, instead of enjoying their console and games they endlessly speculate about things they can't play.

I'm not triggered just stating facts. The only emotion I feel is pity. Pity for the hard-core ninty fans who bought all their good wii u games full price then had to buy them again or their deluxe editions on the switch. Like do you guys not get sick of being ripped off or playing the same shit forever? Surely the nostalgic buzz wears off.

I try to ignore those post because its clearly an attempt to derail the conversation. Some people are just too invested in their favorite company and easily get very uncomfortable when people criticize Nintendo so they attack those that do or try to deflect and start console wars.

You can add "ambitiousness" to the list something people would want to see and Nintendo very rarely does.

This is like typical SJWs feeling triggered for others, oh these pity people...

Those people who bought the games on WiiU enjoyed playing the games as much as them rebuying (!?) them on the Switch.

Why are you so concerned about others feeling ripped off for the 16 millions WiiU fanbase when they are happy with the purchase - if they actually bought it? It's not like they only playing the same shit forever, it's been around 5 years since these games were released, and good gameplay shit survived a lot longer than muh graphics games.

Consider thinking that most people who purchase it are actually first timers or people who give it to others to play. Maybe these "concerns" would die out.

I enjoy my Switch but think Nintendo as a company sucks ass.

The more people post sales numbers and profits, the more I want to bite something or someone. Great, I'm glad this asshole company is killing it. Can they then, in turn, throw their loyal fucking fans a bone every now and then? Would it kill them to have a REAL sale on their titles? Would it cut into their profits too much to improve their online platform to 2008 levels? Would it bankrupt the company to fix that piece of shit E shop that is just a showcase and bloat monster for shovelware? And for the love of Christ, could they take some of their wealth and invest in talent/Studios to produce more games? We are STILL playing Mario Kart 8, A Wii U game, and BOTW and Mario Odyssey have no sequel in site. Oh, we KNOW we'll get them when the Switch 2 comes out.

But yay, I can't wait for the Zelda Anniversary Collection where this incredibly successful company shits out some roms and charges us full price, while making it a limited release, so they can charge us again for the roms one by one.

I can't deny Nintendo games are amazing, but seeing people defending the quality of the service Nintendo does is embarrassing.

They are lights behind any other company.

Absolute nonsense. Most of the time its "oh my silly old friend nintendo" kind of critism at most.
Even the biggest controversy I have seen in recent years is how shit the latest pokemon game was, still had a ~50/50 split with one side ripping it apart and the other side defend it to death. In the end it sold gang buster and who knows how many that criticised it got it too.

A few of them say that, but more often you hear "great, now we have to pay for the exact same crap-tier online we already had??"

And yeah, then they usually buy the thing. That's fan life.

I mean, if Sony had games still selling and being talked years later, they would keep their prices "high" too. It's not Nintendo's fault if you can experience the Sony 1st party through YouTube.

And is very weird to see people complaining about crunch/acquisitions/closures but waiting for a game being devaluated to buy it.

There is some truth here. Also, Master Malstrom talked about this a lot.

Or.. Nintendo gets only handfull of "good" games, so people have no options but to suck it up and pay.

They upkeep this by having so shitty hardware since wii, that only their simple &childish art style Works and 3rd party looks like poop.

Nintendo game quality is an illusion, they sell cheap polished copy&paste crap.

Because they can

Im fine with under powered but I thought that by combining their console and portable lines, we would get twice as many games. It seems like we arent even getting as many games as the 3DS was getting.

Also to clarify I mean that Switch is getting barely more games than Wii U, and WAY less than 3DS.

I could be way wrong. that s just a guess.

I detest Nintendo's absolutely lazy, salaryman-on-the-train-to-Chiba mentality. Yet they keep getting free passes for their outrageously anti-consumer practices because people justifiably love their (great) franchises. I am a big Zelda and Fire Emblem fan myself. But my patience, already pretty thin after spending 4h to get a Wii U on launch day, was stretched to its limit when they dropped the Virtual Console on the Switch. I, as well as many others, spent hundreds of dollars on VC games on both the Wii and the Wii and for whatever reason I can't take them with me to their newest console? Fuck this shit.

I own 2 switches, one for playing and the other one for tinkering, and I think it's a pretty sleek machine. But even there they were shitty with their costumers: They went with a then 2 year old SoC (the Tegra X1 T210 "Maxwell"), whereas they could have timed their supply chain procurement in such a way as to release the Switch with the Tegra X2 "Jetson", a much superior SoC.

Nintendo are in the land of milk and honey because you dumb fucks keep placing them on a pedestal and while you gripe and complain on your keyboards you keep running and and buying everything that they spoon feed you.
They have been on top of the sales charts for some time now, and it is also not like this is something new this gen.

I finally got a Switch and thought there would be a ton of games to play on it and I have 4 total. Not being a huge fan of Mario games, I was hoping for more variation. I want more Star Fox games. The hardware is impressive and convenient to use. But I don't want to play an open world Zelda game or yet another Mario game. I was hoping more Wii and WiiU games would be ported to the Switch. Maybe with time they will be.

This a list of PS5 games , how many of these games are remasters or have released before ......easy answer most
People seem to think only Nintendo only does this but it happens for every console , not only that but charge even more now for new/old games.
