From now on let's every game to the same standards than cyberpunk

AC VALHALLA: same game as origins and odyssey. i wasn't expecting anything else but it's solid at least 8/10
CYBERPUNK: didn't cure covid: 6/10

performance and bugs aside. i've never seen people have this level of scrutiny in any game ever. sure CDPR is a victim of the hype they themselves created but usually someone plays a game and understands what that game is and what that game isn't. yet cyberpunk is deeper than the witcher 3 in almost every way and people are complaining about things they never even mentioned in tw3. and i like it.

every single "?!" in the map is a gig or a side quest and they are really good. better than any open world game to date but i guess i can't follow a random npc for hours to see if they go to the bathroom and wipe their butt so 7/10.

the game is a narrative driven open world rpg. this should be important. you don't compare a game like this to gta just because it is an open world. the same way you don't compare death stranding, mafia, la noire or horizon zero dawn to gta.

rockstar games have that lvl of random npc/police ai and side activities not only because they've been doing the same game for decades but because that is the game. without that there is no game. in fact i know dozens of people that buy rockstar games and never do the missions.
but i don't see people scoring rockstar games 6/10 because they don't have rpg aspects. or the side missions suck. or there is no player agency at all. mission failed, you ran too fast. mission failed, you ran too slow. mission failed, you turned left. mission failed, you turned right.

"oh well those are rockstar missions they are always like that what do you want? 10/10"
well from now i say we want everything in every game.

- your game has driving? must be at least comparable to forza horizon or 5/10.
- we want to enter every house. deduct one point for every house you can't enter
- we want full day/night work/life cycles for random npcs and i want to have meaningful conversations with every single one of them. and not one repeated line
- your game has shooting? better shooting than every other rpg? well it must be better than destiny or 4/10
- rpg? it must have more depth and dialog choices than an isometric rpg where there is no voice acting or animations at all or 5/10.
- we want to be able to sit on every chair and buy things from every shop or eat on every food stand or restaurant.
- main quests and side quests at least on par with a cdpr game or 6/10
- we want to see and move every single asset in the world like buckets in skyrim or 5/10 and npcs better react to that or 3/10.
- stealth you said? do it better than mgsv or don't even try.
- and we must be able to call every single meaningful character we want and hang up with them. talk about life. play minigolf. watch a movie. things like that.

add yours and let's push the medium we love the next level

luckily star citizen is trying to do most of those things so we have a masterpiece in the works
but i can't wait to see 5/10 starfield and 4/10 horizon forbidden west next year.

Yeah it is a good game If only you could run it without crashing on current gen or above 15fps on last gen.

Hasn’t crashed for me yet in 20+ hourson quality mode on XSX. Have had 3 bugs that required reloading a save though. Friend playing on PS5 and PS4 have had a ton of crashes though and the last gen versions are a travesty for sure, especially on base last gen consoles.

That said, the game is amazing if you’re playing on a decent PC or XSX or can love with the crashes on PS5. Probably should have just came out on PC with consoles delayed until bugs worked out and the next gen upgrades were ready. Would suck for me as I’m loving it on XSX, but would have avoided the blowback.

Nah OP, if people had crazy expectations about the game it's because CDPR hyped the fuck out of it.

Now we got a game with 0 AI for drivers, npcs, and the police, which just fucking teleports behind you. Lazy af.

I think I know what's gotten you to write this post: you've been to r/cyberpunkgame haven't you? Don't bother, those people are pathologically whiny babies. Game sure has its faults, and I hate how short they've made it but at the same time I'm having a lot of fun and can't really put it down since launch. At least on PC both Valhalla & Legion have been buggier for me, and HZD same and that was a simple port years later, etc.

People just complain too much these days. Life's too easy.

I don't get this whole "Witcher 3 was unplayable at launch" thing. I got it day one and enjoyed tf out of the game. My biggest complaint was combat and some slowdown. Nothing gamebreaking.

I had CTDs on PC same as Cyberpunk so was unplayable.

I don't recall ever having a crash when i swapped over to PS4 though. Maybe once or twice but my memory of the game is pretty stress free on consoles

Game has an 88 metascore which is good?
The only version getting universally criticized is the last gen console one which looks and runs like shit. And yeah, I'd expect any big game that launches looking this blurry, running consistently under 30fps during traversal and 15fps during heavy fighting, with so many bugs and after being intentionally hidden before release with only vague comments about it running "surprisingly well" should get the same treatment.

Same.
I mean, it had bugs and some areas ran poorly but it was nowhere near as bad as Cyberpunk is right now.
Here's the "Face Off" from Digital foundry from back then

I always have high expectations and unfortunately that means I don't enjoy most games. But when a game meets or surpasses them it's glorious. In saying that, there are also far less games nowadays that meet my standard, simply because I've been gaming my whole life and any run-of-the-mill-already-seen-that game is boring to me.

Cyberpunk is one of those run-of-the-mill games. I don't even care about the bugs. The game itself brings nothing new to the table for me. It's a concept that has been executed 100x better in other mediums, and even before with the Deus Ex games. I would even put EYE Divine Cybermancy (with all of its own issues) above Cyberpunk. Whoever is enjoying the game, that's great. Enjoy it. But I'll criticize this game because it needs to be criticized, for the game itself and because of CDPR's deception.

Yea I played it on the Ps4 and had no gamebreaking issues. People making it sound like cdpr are Bethesda.

No issues with W2 or W3. Haven't played CP2077 yet.

game is awesome. so sick of hearing about GTA or RDR. yes those are good games. not every game has to be the same. jfc.

the gameplay and world design and story and pretty much everything in Cyberpunk 2077 is super awesome high level amazing GOTY stuff. the only issue is the technical bugs. which tbh aren't as bad as you see in Fallout or Skyrim.

there were infamously TONs of bugs and even worse terrible gameplay choices made in Fallout 76, which was a follow up to a similarly buggy Fallout 4. yet everyone was praising Microsoft buying Bethesda... why?

imo activists and game journalists have whipped up an atmosphere of distrust towards this company for now bowing to their LGBT demands, and now a buggy last gen port is hogging up all the news cycles, because the media loves nothing more than to "Kick Em When They're Down" and dogpiling and witch-hunting is the only thing they know how to do.

just watch, in a few months when this game is patched, the media will run stories on "toxic gamers" threatening this company, acting like they had no part in creating this combatative atmosphere. it sucks for the devs, honestly. i hope they stay safe and free from lunatics threatening them as they continue to work on this game.

personally i play on PS5 and i do have a bit too many crashes while driving but outside of that am 100% happy with the game. it is going to age very well. ignore the patchy release.

I wonder how GTA 6 will be, its probably spent less time than Cyberpunk in development 7 years. (2013)
We’ll see how there game will be compared to Cyberpunk too

sure and you can say that about 95% of other rpgs. most of them don't even have systems like that in the first place. what about everything else

I always felt that this game was a product of gamers own hype, not necessarily of CDPR. Before we even had a trailer people were already frothing to play the game based on what they thought the final game would be like, without even having a single piece of official detail. I feel like from day one people were just like "Witcher 3 + cyberpunk!!!!!!!!" and came up with the entire game in their head, without actually stopping to see what game CDPR were making. And so many people purposefully went on media blackout, again because in their head they already "knew" what the game was going to be because their imagination already decided.

I dunno. The hype for this game always felt off for whatever reason. I didn't follow super close since the aesthetic didn't really appeal to me, but this is the impression I got.

Talking about buggy games. It just reminded me of Two Worlds, it was a broken pos that for some reason i couldn't stop playing. I think it reviewed at like 2/10.

I've yet to see anything beat that game lol

I really enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077. Big Bladerunner fan so this was an easy immersion for me. I completed it at about 50 hours with a lot of side content left over. I didn't appreciate it crashing every hour on my PS5 and there were plenty of bugs and a lot of annoyances on the way but overall, I thought it was solid.

Having said that, I did expect more from it. I feel there was a lot of cut content and features. One thing I do see in this game though is potential in the future with DLC, expansions and multiplayer.

Honestly the only reason this game has soo much media traction is due to its broken buggy garbage state.
This game looks and plays boring as fuck and without the hype its only a solid 8 at best.
If it wouldnt be for its state ,you wouldnt hear about this game at all.

Thats what you get when you market the game as gta cool future to mainstream. If they kept it to the hardcore it would score well but sold less because casuals cant be fucked if its not gta.

There's a whole load of false marketing in here as well. For example none of this is in the game:

That trailer was released in October of this year. 2 months ago. In the Cyberpunk hype thread in this very forum, you had people getting all giddy & hyped at the prospect of getting a luxury apartment in the latter parts of the game. Net result? Nothing.

And then there's the fact a load of its open world mechanisms are way worse than stuff we played 10, 15 & even 19 years ago (the cops in Cyberpunk are worse than GTA III, no hyperbole).

So all the stuff it does right (atmosphere, artwork, soundtrack, writing of specific characters) is offset by a whole load of actual real problems which aren't just "disappointment" from overhyped players, but real issues (I'm not evening mentioning the glitches here either, i.e. which "can" be fixed over time).

The bugs are a legitimate gripe and the AI needs improvement but not being GTA or RDR is not a legitimate criticism. Let games stand on their own.

I just think it's important for people to remember to reserve their expectations. We've all been hyped, hell, I love being hyped. But never look at any title expecting to do anything they haven't shed light on.

CDPR hyped the hell out of CP:2077, sure. But a lot of people STILL went in expecting the game to do what they never said it would. Only because other games have done it. Would it have been cool if they did? Most definitely! But it feels juvenile to expect mechanics that exist in other open-world games by developers that are almost masters at it by now, when CDPR doesn't have the most experience. Especially in one like CP:2077.

I've loved my time with CP:2077, and I think they did an exceptional job with the game considering a lot of the tech is their first go with it. The worst part about it has been the bugs, and the console + review situation. In the end, it's experience that should hopefully just make them better across the board.

Yeah, I'm past sick of the haters and their crap, my bro has it on the One X, no game looks that good while having that much shit packed into it, you wanna come at me with RDR 2? Way more sparse, way less NPCs, way less objects in any given environment, the list goes on and on... how did anyone think this would perform better than it does? Did you think CDPR could perform miracles after the much less dense, much less interactive Witcher III couldn't hold 30 FPS on your ancient crap machines? Fuck outta here.

I thought the PS4 base version would have been passable at least, that is an embarrassment and I will not preorder their games again on the basis of how I saw that perform/what they told me pre-release.

I just don't get it, on this forum we've had discussions about how we believe the Series S will hold games back, what did you guys expect from a base PS4? The most they could do is release a separate version, I still remember they got games like Half-Life and Deus Ex to run better on PS2 by taking out assets and filling the games with more boxes, maybe they should do that?

Yeah maybe, but before having lazily unpolished systems I would rather have no systems at all.

If you are going to make an RPG set in a city, and you market it saying it would have complex police systems, then you expect to have those systems and not shitty, half developed ones.

I’m finding CP2077’s experience very forgettable for now. Even if you ignore the bugs and performance problems, what’s left is a bland experience from an open world and mechanics point of view.

I don't remember that in the marketing, honestly but I won't say you're wrong because I didn't glue myself to every piece of marketing material. There's definitely stuff they over promised on, including things we learned prior to launch were getting cut like wall-running.

what did you guys expect from a base PS4?

Not dipping into low teen framerates, not such atrociously bad rendering and pop in, you know, basic stuff. They said it was going to be cool and I trusted that. They said they developed it for those consoles, I guess I was supposed to mind read and figure that meant "we're making a Crysis and if we have time we'll shit out a console port." Bugs were expected, but this goes way beyond that imo.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of flaws I won't deny that. But seeing Cyberpunk 2077 with a lower score on open critic than a boring ass game like AC: Valhalla, which is basically just AC:Origins reskinned for the 3rd time, is the worst joke I've seen in a long fucking time.
