A product that’s more niche than the Wii U because of the requirements was never going to get a look in with the established console giants. Not even Google can magically give everyone amazing internet, so it’s an instant failure. Maybe in 10-20 years, but even then it’s hardly going to take off in areas without high speed internet when they can buy a disc for another console.

Recently Stadia allowed anyone who has as much as Google account to play Destiny 2, before you would have to subscribe to a Pro tier subscription, If this move alone was to facilitate a stream of players to the platform, it was a fairly smart move. The Pro game library is only expanding and there will be a percentage of players that will be dedicated to the platform no matter what. Now that xCloud is bringing streaming to it's platform, it will be one hell of a competitor to Stadia as Xbox Game Pass has much larger library, that's about the only distinction that I can make, one has simply more to offer. Personally I don't want to see Stadia go down, but not for the reason of Google saying successful with the platform, I simply wish for people who already spent their money in one way or another to keep the items that they "own".

Yeah, Gamepass is probably the best offer on consoles for poor players who play on smartphone or tablet.

But Stadia clearly has a room since the resolution is not limited to 720p like Xcloud for the moment.
Having fast turn over on gamepass is great for...hardcore gamers.

As a casual, i think the Stadio Pro would suit me more. (in 2021, Stadia pro suscribers will have almost 100 games in their backlog, without time limitation like gamepass)

With free Stadia, i can buy just the game I want.(no sub)

I think Gamepass is more a rival for Luna. It's more balanced (download games), better library but also more expensive with lower quality (IQ, resolution)

It may be hard to believe, but the Google Stadia version of Cyberpunk 2077 may be the best way to play for most players right now. Unless you have a 20 or 30 Series Nvidia GPU or comparable AMD card or you were lucky enough to get a PS5 or Xbox Series X / S, this game will not be performing anywhere close to how it was designed to. That means going the cloud gaming route is a surprisingly viable option if you’re concerned about performance and you also want the added benefits Stadia provides, like playing across multiple devices and not having to download the game or any subsequent updates to get right to playing.
I’ve played through the first few hours of the game on Stadia, and I’ve been very impressed with how well Cyberpunk 2077 is holding up. Unlike the PS5 version, the Stadia one has graphical presets to prioritize either resolution or frame rate. And it runs smoothly and looks almost indistinguishable from the console version in my experience on a 50 Mbps-plus internet connection, even over Wi-Fi. (I’ve also been testing the game on PS5.)

Yes, obviously. Saying "most" players is incredibly misleading. Or is it because "most players in the USA" doesn't sound as good?
Nah just state USA is a third word country by internet speeds.
I surrender to our European internet overlords.

I completely forgot this even exists.

I seriously doubt they can survive for long if they don't get killer exclusives. Why the fuck would anyone buy into a platform that only gets third party games?

I have said it before but Google killed this service by letting Microsoft snatch Zenimax away. Can you imagine Stadia having all those studios develop exclusive IP's? It would have been terrible but I would have at least tried it out for Doom Next and whatever else they are working on.
Companies would be in shits creek if they had to develop exclusively for Stadia. No exclusive is going to drive the masses to Stadia beyond initial curiosity. It's only a good idea if you want to send your ip/games out to get shot behind the shed and die.

I've been playing Cyberpunk on stadia and I must say It's a pretty good version.

I've played around 3 hours and I got 2 crashes. This never happened to me on any other game so I'm assuming it's a Cyberpunk issue.

Here is a quick comparison of performance vs visual modes:

I also noticed how sometimes I don't actually get a 1080p stream and it looks a bit blurry. I managed to work around it by refreshing the page until I get a clear picture. I will post impressions on chromecast and the stadia controller once I get them.

I will admit: I tried out Stadia to play the Fenyx Rising demo for the Ubisoft reward. It performed flawlessly on my 10 year old laptop.

Bravo, Google. Too bad your marketing for it was absolute crap.

It's actually a good thing.
Last year, Google had a lesson in modesty. A big tech crushing Sony or Nintendo wouldn't be wholesome for the industry.

Now, Stadia is doing fine and that's a good news (Stadia as competitor and not a predator)

What browser are you using?
Edge works better than chrome.
If you want to stay with chrome, try using this extension:
Set the Stream Codec to VP9.

Playstation owners ask for Cyberpunk refund to buy it on Stadia and Geforce Now.

The rise of cloud gaming has begun :messenger_beermugs: :messenger_ok: :messenger_blowing_kiss:

Oh yes! It doubled its user base from 5 users to 10 users in a day!! At that pace it will be an unprecedented success in about 100 years 😂

Cloud gaming is the future.. Stadia however... yea.. no. Xcloud will though.

Xcloud is great too, but let's face it.

You cannot buy Cyberpunk with it.
It's linked to Gamepass ultimate for now so the cheapest and easiest way to play Cyberpunk is stadia.

Who will take advantage of the cyberpunk hype in 2020 ? PC, GFN for the graphics, stadia for the price.

Ge Force Now... better than Stadia since it runs the game above low settings and you'll see more than 2 NPCs on screen at once 😂😂

How's the control responsiveness tho? Since its streaming, the input lag has GOT to be there... right?

I can't feel any Input lag.
The latency for me while playing Cyberpunk: 15-20ms (according to Stadia Enhanced Extension)
Connection: 100Mbit via Wifi 5ghz
Location: Vienna, Austria
Game settings: Visual Mode (4K/30fps)

I guess I'll have to see for myself someday. Cyberpunk is probably a good example of what Stadia's original selling pitch is actually good for... ie let someone else worry about having the 'best' hardware, you just play the game. I could almost agree with it if not for the fact you still have to 'buy' something (despite owning fuck nothing).

If Stadia were a pure service (coz lets be honest, it should be) like Netflix or Gamepass and only cost $10 a month or so, THEN I'd agree it was a good thing. They shouldn't be asking users to buy anything when you actually own nothing.

If you have that specific problem with Stadia, then you should have it with almost every digital game storefront.

Stadia and GeForce Now are fine, but they really don't compete with a console in terms of image quality.

I've been playing Metro 2033 on an Xbox One X (1080P/60FPS locked) and comparing it against the same Metro 2033 on Stadia (Pro susbscription at 4K with a fiber connection of 620 MBs). The Xbox version blows out of the water the Stadia one, in terms of image quality, colors and frame rate stability.

I have a problem with the fact you need to buy hardware for Stadia, and then buy games.... and ultimately you own fucking nothing and it all becomes poof, gone, when they pull the plug.

With literally every other platform, its possible to keep your copy locally and keep playing it. That's the key difference.

Yeah 'ownership' is moot but possession is 9/10ths of the law (or something, however that saying goes).

I must be absolutely blind, because each time somebody posts screenshot showing differences between two consoles or image modes, I spend half an hour finding none. Do you guys use electronic microscopes or mass spectrographs?

Do you keep every single game you own on steam installed all at once or something? What happens if those services disappear? What happens when the physical game box you own is tied to online access. You jonesing for a bygone age.

I find the big differences are found on people and text. The text looks a little blurrier, people look a blurrier. If it doesn't bother you then the 60fps mode is the way to go.

My Series X offers better visual fidelity ay 60fps than Stadia but the performance dips a lot more frequently. On the whole, it's very competitive for essentially zero upfront cost other than the game.

You are asking for a monthly service with an instant games catalogue like gamepass or psnow for stadia... but doesn't a service like that make it worse? There is a possibility that the game you are playing can be gone next month.

Stadia is more like a PS5 digital as in when you buy a game you can play it as long as the service is alive, and also has a catalogue of games with stadia pro that you can keep and play as long as you pay similar to ps+. There are starting to have good sales where I can see myself building a big ass back catalogue akin to steam.

Also you don't need to buy new hardware you can just use your phone or non gaming laptop and have a decent experience.

The service has its caveats but it's besides the point you are bringing.

You don't need to buy the Stadia 'console'?... Ok that's actually news to me coz I didn't know that. I read shit about how ppl 'preordered' Stadia, had to buy some box and a controller, etc.

If it truly is like Netflix and you can just 'sign up' for a piddly price a month as a service then ok, I don't have a problem at all.

It's Google - I don't think the uptake and return will be worth it and it will be discontinued at some point. It's a shame as from my limited exposure to it I think it had promise, I just think that Google's executive team and the team in charge of the Stadia subdivision either did not have their fingers on the gaming pulse or had more "data oriented" goals in mind which made it a dead duck in terms of proposition.

I've long thought that the logical direction to go with Stadia, assuming they don't want to go the "Netflix of gaming" route, would be to do what Google are good at which is to provide it's technology as a backend infrastructure for others.

Are you watching the screenshots in a phone? I can only see the difference when reading the thread on my pc with a 1080p 23" monitor.

It's not like Netflix. You sign in with your Google account and you can buy games and play them at 1080p60 without any monthly charge more similar to steam.

They also have an additional service called stadia pro where for a monthly price you can buy some games for "free" and keep playing the as long as you pay the monthly fee and play the supported games at 4k60. Similar to ps+.

The only thing it resembles Netflix is in it's interface, the convinience, ease of use and the fact that you can use it on any device that has a browser or an app.

You only need your Phone, Laptop, PC, Chromecast, whatever. You can Play via App or browser.
You Just buy the Game & Play, no subscription needed.
With stadia pro ($10/month) you get some free Games but you don't need it to play the Games you purchased.

Bold is the the bit I don't agree with.

If you 'buy' the game, you should be able to at least play it even when the service dies. When PSN service for PS3, PS4 etc dies, you can still play your downloaded games on the HDD as long as your license files are on the HDD too. Buy a game on PC, even if Steam dies you can still launch the game if its on your HDD.

If you can't even do that, then you shouldn't have to 'buy' anything. Since its a pure service like Netflix, it should be a monthly charge like Gamepass and that's all. If they ever shift to that model then I'll support it, but until then, its a bad thing to me.

And there is where I don't agree and it's fine. A service like Netflix or gamepass is worse for me since games can be gone any time.

For example I have ps now and Control was available there for a while. When I went to play the game it was gone, and now the game is on gamepass. So whenever Sony makes a new contract with remedy Control will be gone from Gamepass and back to psnow.

Instead stadia works more like steam in the sense that when they put sales like borderlands 3 for 1 euro I can buy it and keep playing as long as stadia exists. And I prefer it that way.

I prefer to manage the catalogue myself for a low price than trust Sony, Microsoft or Google to know which games I will want to play.

I know I don't own the games, but that is fine for me as long as the price is right.

That's exactly the thing tho. Stadia could go out of service tomorrow, and all your games are gone!

That's exactly why I don't agree to 'buying' games in Stadia, coz if it shuts down tomorrow, all your 'purchases' are gone. As mentioned before on all other platforms, even if the online service goes, your games can be played offline still.

Stadia IS a service like Netflix, but it wants customers to 'buy' as if it weren't, and therein lies the problem.

If the service is gone is gone for good. If it's easier for you to make your mind to pay for a service than a license then it's fine but you don't own either.

Once we establish that we don't own anything on stadia I cannot see why stadia would be better with google managing the catalogue instead of me just accurately paying for the content I want.

I bet if stadia worked like Gamepass Cyberpunk would not have been available right now.
