I'm mad at myself for assuming they were making a mature themed game.

Everyone needs to stop worrying about what ‘the internet’ will think. It’s ruining gaming, our lives, the world...

The volume of every opinion gets amplified, whether it’s worthy or not.

Shut up and play. If something isn’t for you, play something else.

I care only if their game is good or not, for me, if it’s not I won’t play it. It will neither be devastating to me, or an opportunity to try and make fun of other people.

Hope it’s great and something different, that would be awesome.

I'm on board for mix genre, short episodic games with a shared narrative thread. Seems perfect for Game Pass.

I guess it is if the point is keep folks subscribed. Break a game up and spread it out across months, perhaps? Hopefully the game will have an actual end and be available to play in its entirety at one time. Or, better yet, have all the "episodes" available right from the start. If Netflix is the model then that's what they should do.

I don't think it will be one game spit into episodes. It will be different short experiences set in the same universe. MS is going to be testing out what Game Pass exclusive content would look like, and this sounds to be it.

I've always been impressed with Darrell Gallagher's work so definitely looking forward to a reveal....hopefully soon.

Been saying this since I heard the Gamepass news and it coming to PC. In short,
AA-tier games is Xbox jam.
AAA is just too risky. 1-3 AAA with plethora of AA games covering all genres is their strategy.

Hardcore fans might reject but office goers might just take a shine to this format.

They more than 70 now.

Still actively recruit.

67 people listed as employees, but not all 67 actively work on the game. There are HR people and operational employees, especially in a new studios.

The Head of the studio also said on record that they'd like to keep their studio small.

Yes. They are ~40-50 people.

And Hellblade was a 7-hour AA game. Do you expect this to be a 7-hour AA game?

Hellblade was a AA game with AAA production values. In fact, if we're using length as a measurement of AAA status, wouldn't that make Miles Morales a AA-game? 6-10 hour campaign isn't much different from a 7-hour one.

I'm pretty sure they were talking about outsourcing lots of work which would means that employes number is meaningless. Especially that they probably also have help from other MS studios (Turn10, Coalition).

Ed sounds like he's too far up his own ass to offer believable opinions. Which is fitting because his source seems to be his own rectum. 🤦‍♂️😅

I personally have no issues with a 6-7 hour game. And for the record, I loved Hellblade! But it still is a AA game, and not just because of its length. From level design to number of NPCs, enemy types, combat moves, etc. no one can deny it's a AA game.

If anything it just goes to show how dumb these labels for games are. Maybe the only way they make sense is in relation to budgets, and on that note yes I'd definitely agree Hellblade is more AA while something like Miles Morales is AAA. But I don't know how number of NPCs/enemy types/combat moves etc. really acts as a true differentiation point.

There are indie games with more enemy variety and combat techniques than some big-budget titles. Indivisible comes to mind for example. By that notion they could be considered more "AAA" than an Assassin's Creed Valhalla. But the other issue with those labels is they can imply quality when they really shouldn't, for the less informed. I personally prefer sticking to labels like "small budget", "mid-budget", "big budget" or "blockbuster budget" as distinguishing labels, that way it's clear I'm strictly talking about the budgets involved.

A welcome dose of common sense. Well said.

Maybe look at from the perspective of 3D "cinematic game" instead of comparing it to 2D side scroller since the labour requirement in these genres are fundementally different

Yeah that's a good point. Perhaps a "smaller-scaled game" would be a better term.

Yikes if this is true I may have to make some difficult choices going forward in terms of which system I will be supporting.

What a load of bs dude. You are seriously stretching for negatives.

How can you declare it BS when we don't even know what the game is yet?

Ultimately, the proof will be in the pudding. Let's see what it looks like when it's revealed. But the comments in the OP are not encouraging at all. You may choose not to believe the leaker in the OP, or not. But oftentimes where there's smoke there's fire (especially where MS game devs are concerned).

They're currently developing an AAAA game, aren't they?

Making AAAA type game as your first project is kinda scary and risky. Good luck!!

They have a number of people on contract and working remotely. Also pretty sure they are working other studios to make the game.

Easily i can call it bs when you are making up a hypothetical situation to be dissapointed at. Unlike some people id rather wait for actual information then trying so hard to pull negatives out of comments from someone not in the know.

Such a weird tweet. Was he bragging that he's a cool dad? Implying the game is going to be good or the development of it is going well because his kid thinks so? Something else entirely? I don't get it.

Eh, yeah, I can't see him letting his, what 8 years old? daughter play a GOW clone or anything with a lot of figthing and weapons.

Maybe they are working on an episodic care-bears project?
Each month they introduce a new care bear and the episode is about doing some chores for this new care bear.

Episode One : Old Nana-Bear needs 7 apples to bake a pie. Can you find the apples?

Lol, you're hilarious. You're deciding this person is not in the know without any information to base this one.

I'm reacting to a speculative situation. Nothing wrong with that. Human beings do it all the time. It's what separates us from animals; i.e. ability to project into the future and consider a hypothetical or speculative situation.

The irony is you're hippocrisy is showing. You're trying to feign superiority over me for my reacting negatively to a speculative scenario in the face of an absence of verifiable facts, all the while you're doing a similar thing albeit in the converse.

You're simply dismissing any possibility of any truth in these rumour based on an absence of any verifiable information. You're simply choosing to live in your own bubble and deny anything that doesn't fit your own speculative position.

It's just as bad... if not worse.

There's nothing of relevance to take from this. It could be anything. I for one am happy if their first game is not Perfect Dark.
