VGC: PS5 is biggest console launch ever in UK

"
According to publishing sources speaking to VGC, launch sales for Sony’s console far exceeded the UK’s previous record holder, 2013’s PlayStation 4, which sold some 250,000 units in its first 48 hours.

It means PS5 significantly outsold the launch of Xbox Series X and S in the region, which VGC previously reported had sold around 155,000 units on its first day."

For reference
THE UK’S BIGGEST CONSOLE LAUNCHES

It’s gonna shatter every record for a while at least...the thirst for it is unparalleled outside of like the Wii and PS2.
I really think it's close to PS2 levels. PS4 really started pulling away from X1 after a few years of Xbox holding its own, I bet PS5 will widen the gap even more from Xbox in the UK.

Coming off ps2 it sold 10k better than x360. Not that great i guess
Yeah I know overall it didn't do so well compared to PS2 but I honestly thought in the UK PS3 sold less overall. Guess not.

Microsoft still tried in 2013 and it looked like there's hope for future. Then reality set in that there's no coming back to best x360 years.

Wow PS3 launched higher than 360? That's surprising.
PS3 outsold 360 in worldwide numbers, specially due to the PS3 lead in Europe and Japan. The thing is that PS3 released way later a year later than 360 in USA and several months more in Europe in Japan, so 360 had a big lead if you didn't align their sales, so it took time to outsell it.

It was Microsoft not supplying enough units which is even more bizarre given the UK is their second biggest market. There have even been reports of unsold stock in some EU countries!

I think Chris Dring at Gamesindustry said he saw the PS5 numbers but didn't say what they were. I guess Sony are waiting until NPD day (10th Dec?) for the PR?

Surely thats a stock problem more than anything? It is sold out everywhere here, I have a few friends that have been waiting for more stock including me. Microsoft must still be happy with the sales I would imagine?

They never said they have supply issues . Bloomberg said they do which we now know it was bullshit .

Oh. I was under the impression that they had to undership because of the countless reports of stores getting very few units, and covid affecting manufacturing. I could have imagined five months of news though. I'll have to take your word for it.

So dramatic.
Concerned much?

Calm down, you two. Sony is still number one, despite me questioning a news report. My post has no power over the Japanese corperation, and will not effect their success or your ability to enjoy games produced by them.

I had heard from good authority (Gafers) that Xbox was dead and wouldn't sell half of what they did at X1 launch. So a small improvement is good in that context. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Hmm... Half as much, x 2 consoles (Series X and Series S)... Yeah checks out.
I'm kidding, Xbox Series will do fine in the UK.

Thank you. I thought you were concerned with stock situation.

Have to say for a console with no new games or really any new hardware features other than improved performance; I think the Series X is selling pretty damn good for what it is.

Meaningless numbers. All launch quantities have been sold out so far for each console. So what is this number to prove? We are able to supply more units than ever before?

What do u expect with lackluster launch lineup. People need new exclusives games for new hardware.

But that said MS sold all units they manufactured. So they not having loss or have left over inventory.

PS5 selling more doesn't mean MS losing bad. MS made their money and that's all they care

People were saying that the Xbox couldn't move half the units they moved last gen, so were expecting less than 75k in this example. :messenger_squinting_tongue:
They are crazy, Xbox Series should do well in a fair amount of places (UK, US their biggest sales, Canada(?), Mexico, Brazil, maybe Germany and so on), 2 or 3 places I could see it doing shit is Japan, Portugal and probably Spain.
NPD shove Canada into their figures, right? They use North America instead of just US? :pie_thinking:

As far as PS5 goes, talent wins! Not unexpected and with their Q1 titles it will continue strong.

if i remember right you couldnt buy a 360 till like march the following year in the uk, there just wasnt any stock.

Sony worked hard.

Here in Brazil you can find "S" easily, but no "X". PS5 is sold out, but a new wave incoming on 12/18.

Anyway, the silence from MS after launch is indeed deafening. Maybe they bet everything on US.

I also heard from other top sources (Gafers) that the Xbox Series X was going to be the Sony/Nintendo Killer with it's 12TF of brute power that would plow Sony and Nintendo till they could no longer take it's power and bow down for a Gamepass bukkake.

The lesson to be learnt here? Don't trust internet forums, ever.

I am very happy with my PS5 and XSX, gaming has never been better for me personally in terms of competition!
