I've been asking more legacy content on Switch from Square-Enix ever since Octopath Traveler was announced. Thankfully, some has been coming, but there's so much more I want. FF1-6 collection in Octopath engine would be a dream come true, but it does not look likely. For some reason Square-Enix's legacy games almost always lesser quality.

I hope more Dragon Quest games would also come. DQ4-6 have high quality mobile ports based on DS remakes, those seem like no brainers. Oh, and HD ports of VII and VIII while you are at it. Another dream would be Xenogears remake by Monolith Soft, as I never got to play that game.

I plan to start a Master Mode play through before the next game. The little bit of Age of Calamity that I have played has already made me want to start. Going for 100% - korok seeds.

It is certainly a worthy undertaking. Took me the better part of a year playing off and on to do 100%, but I included all armor and armor upgrades in my completionist run. (And at least one of every item, and every picture, etc.) I beat normal and master mode but did my 100% run in normal since I'm not a masochist. I played it enough though that I could probably complete the Trial of the Sword in Master mode, but I don't know if I'll do that anytime soon. I was proud that I got 880/900 korok seeds on my own before I had to look the rest up.

In other news, I picked up Burnout Paradise for $20 from Best Buy and started it last night. I forgot how fun that game is. I'm amazed how well it runs in handheld. I had it on PS3 and to imagine playing it on a Nintendo handheld would have been shocking back in 2010. Only drawback is no quick restart, but for the majority of the game that's not too bad simply because there's so much to do pretty much everywhere. Still, it would have been a nice QOL change for a 'remastered' version.

I considered Master Mode, but I ultimately ended up preferring the balance of difficulty in the original.

The difficulty does get less satisfying for general world exploration, the more smartly you upgrade Link, so I decided to add the rule that I can’t eat during a battle, unless it’s too hard (I just want more difficulty atm, not an NES game), which I think should set it nicely.

We’ll see how that goes, but it’s been really fun thus far.

I really want to play Master Mode someday, though. It seems like the difficulty of NES Zelda, for a modern game, and I think that could be something special.

1. The Switch store's discoverability, search, and sorting features leave a lot to be desired
2. I'm considering buying games on PS4/5 over Switch simply because I can plug a headset into the controller. Huge omission on the Pro controller.

re 1: that’s why I use dekudeals and Nintendo Life.
re 2: there are Bluetooth adapters that’ll give you a decent setup.

I should give dekudeals a go.

On the headset front I use a pair of Senheiser headphones on my PS4 and Xbox. I plug both into the controller via 3.5MM. Would like to be able to do the same on Switch but it looks like wired headphones are not an option.

Wired into Bluetooth receiver, with Bluetooth transmitter into Switch headphone socket will do a job. I’m on my phone so can’t easily sort a link but tomorrow I can hunt something down if you like.

For anyone wanting to use Bluetooth headphones while playing docked.

I've been using the Genki Bluetooth adapter.

It plugs into the docks USB port when docked and plugs into the Switch charging port when using in handheld. You can even charge and use the Bluetooth adapter at the same time.

You can connect two headsets at once.

No noticeable lag.

2020 check; Is Wind Waker still impossibly beautiful?

👌 Wind Waker is still impossibly beautiful.
2021- you'll get to play it again in the Zelda collection.

I'll take a look, that sounds like a good option. I could always use a super long cable as well.

I might have to get one of these for portable mode as well so I can use my airpods.

Danny Dudekisser Danny Dudekisser Is Ys VIII a good place to start? I recall you saying you liked VII. PS4 or Switch?
So what do you guys think the next big first party game will be after Super Mario 3D World?
Bravely Default in Feb, something Kirby size in March, Zelda collection in April.

Will you be garrotting anyone with it?
Only if they start talking about their favorite Fire Emblem girls.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Ys VIII is a great place to start. The games aren't really connected storywise (there's the occasional returning character from older games, but you really don't need to worry about it) and mechanically, VIII is pretty unique from the rest. A lot of people would consider Ys VIII to be the best in the series, and it's easy to get into. So yeah, hop to it.

But definitely play it on the PS4. Massively better in terms of visuals and frame rate.

This is my current playthrough as well. I have a set of basic rules to enhance the game:
1. Can only consume meals and cooked foods at camp fires or cooking pots. Any cooked food is disposed of upon leaving.
2. Elixirs and drinks can be carried and consumed at any time.
3. Fast travel is only available from stables, towns, towers, etc.

It's a lot more fun like this so far.

Noted. I just bought Atelier on Switch and seeing the resolution difference now wish I went with PS4. I see Ys is 30 vs 60 in addition to detail.

NintendoGAF, I need some assistance. What should I buy on sale on the eShop? I'm looking at Ys VIII, Valkyrie Chronicles 4, Borderlands Collection, or Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus. (Or whatever else.) Anyone have any recommendations based upon what they've played, heard, seen? I'm weak and indecisive at the moment, and I have eShop money burning a hole in my digital wallet.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (expansion is on sale too) and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

Ring Fit uses a cart right? I wish it were a download like Mario Kart Live.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of my favorite Switch games. I wish I could forget all about it and play it again, for the first time. I don't know what kind of game Tokyo Mirage sessions even is. I'll have to look at that.
That's right, we have talked about it! Great game.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions is supposed to be Fire Emblem x ShimnMegami Tensei (SMT to TMS#FE). In reality it is a few Fire Emblem characters combined with Diet Persona and JPop weirdness. Fun but lite RPG.

It is a JRPG that borrows the names of established franchises without actually using either franchise properly. It is also a remaster of a Wii U game nobody played and is using the "censored" version of it because ????

Thanks, will buy.
I got it day one (on the vita/Ps4. Switch got a port a year later) so no idea how it runs on the Switch but it has a charming cast similar to XC2. The first 2 hours are the worst parts of the game btw.

I was on the Politics board and it got me thinking. I would really like the Metal Gear Solid games on the Switch. Anyone want to speculate with me about the chances of it happening? Konami loves money, and the Switch is doing well, so I'm going to put the chances at 25%. I have no idea the complexities of the situation, I just know I want it to happen.

Konami owns the rights to the IP. All they have to do is port the games.

MG 1/2 are easily emulated.

MGS as well but I haven't seen too many developers use emulation on another console where it wasn't sanctioned by the original hardware manufacturer (SEGA Ages, Wii VC for Turbo Grafx, etc). Someone correct me if I am wrong here. I think they would need to use the PC port as a base here.

MGS The Twin Snakes could easily be done via Nintendo's GameCube emulator.

MGS 2/3 could be ported from the HD collection.

MGS 4 would be a nightmare I imagine. PS3's weird architecture and lack of emulation options would make this one a chore.

MGS 5 would require some sort of crazy port.

Same. I just don’t know though. Is Konami even interested in things you don’t play on a phone anymore, or soccer games where they can use an ancient Kojima engine to quickly turn a profit?

There’s a 360 and PS3 version. It’s really, really good, just 30 FPS and with sensible cutbacks. The Switch could easily handle that version, or improve it.

I had no idea it was cross-gen. How was that not a clickbait thread when the Spider-Man and Horizon drama was unfolding?

"Metal Gear PlayStation Cross-Gen (Jim Ryan Get ITT)". You missed your chance.

I don't know. I don't even know how much a Metal Gear Solid collection would sell. I assume there's at least 2 of us that would buy it. Want to start a Switch porting company with me and pitch a port to Konami?

I'm nominating myself for the CFO role.

I'll hype up the Switch ports and then buy the Xbox/PS version for better performance as usual.

I don’t mean to interrupt, but how am I still finding new stuff in BotW? Had some cool rain dialogue from the Sheikah girl with a crush on Link, lol, yesterday, and today, I find the kid that lost her mother, crying in the graveyard, and explaining how much she misses her.

This is like Animal Crossing, but in one of the largest games ever made. It’s just really impressive.

Speaking of finding stuff in BOTW, it was genuinely difficult to locate all 120 shrines. It took forever to get to 119 and then took another forever scrounging the overworld and talking to EVERYONE before I finally found the one I missed. I refused to look it up but boy was I close. I believe my 100% run was around 280 hours. No, that's not a typo.

Same for me. Had 118 shines at 120 hours, 119 at 165 hours after traversing the entire map. Another 35 hours have passed, I think, and I still can't find the last one. Even worse, I'm sat on 53% completion and still have some quests to do. Definitely haven't spoken to everyone yet. The game is absolutely mesmerising. Even after almost 4 years, I still stick it on and wander around doing nothing for an hour or so. For me, it is the GOAT. Nothing else comes close.

Newly Vacant Newly Vacant I loved TMS on the Wii U. I've seen it referred to as "Persona-lite", but I've never played a Persona game so can't comment to that. A very good dungeon-crawling RPG. I had a digital review copy for the Wii U (Gave it 9/10) and bought it physical for the Switch because I wanted to go through it again and have it on the shelf.

You all have me thinking about BOTW again...

Honestly what I find amazes most is how layered it is with metaphor. It's very poetic. I already wrote a short essay on the last page about how the feeling of loneliness not only comes from the landscape itself, but also from Zelda's absence. The game makes a point of showing you the Hylian countryside with Zelda to contrast with the player's experience of being alone. I really can't commend Nintendo enough for the way they did that. Very mature for a Zelda and a far cry from how previous entries paired the two.

Every time I reflect on the game I discover another way in which the idea of the Wild and the Silent Princess are metaphors beyond the very obvious and immediate way that we see the flower bloom at the end. I actually cut down my post on the previous page but I started to write about how Zelda could only truly find her own power in the Wild, much like the silent princess can't be domesticated. Similarly it is only when she uses her power to contain Ganon that she ends up imprisoned away from the wild and back in the castle that she wanted so desperately to escape. I could write pages about how well the few metaphors work and are repeated throughout the game.

Thanks for the backup! I found it to be a really refreshing JRPG. Fun dungeons but the whole combat system with the "Session" follow up mechanic was really fantastic. One of my favorite titles on Switch.

Now, as far as the Persona issue goes:
