Cyberpunk 2077 runs "surprisingly good" on PS4 and Xbox One, dev promises (again) not to delay the game any further, multiplayer details coming later

CD Projekt Red is happy with how Cyberpunk 2077 performs now on PS4 and Xbox One.

When Cyberpunk 2077 was pushed back to December, developer CD Projekt Red suggested that the team needed more time to bring the PS4 and Xbox One versions in line with other platforms.

Having recently shown gameplay running on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the developer is now seemingly happy with how it runs.

During the most recent conference call for CD Projekt, where the developer-publisher promised (again) not to delay the game any further, company executives were asked directly about Cyberpunk 2077’s current state on the base consoles.

Company president and joint-CEO, Adam Kicinski, fielded one such question.

“Of course, [the performance is] a bit lower than on pros, but surprisingly good, I would say, for such a huge world,” Kicinski revealed. “So, bit lower, but very good. That’s the answer.”

Kicinski later added that the three-week delay helped the team achieve a lot with regards to performance on current-gen consoles.

“Yesterday we released the gameplay both on PS4 and PS5. So, you can see the difference,” he added.

“And on both – I mean, PS5 is great. PS4 is still very good. I mean, we had those extra three weeks and we achieved a lot by – within this final stretch. So, we believe that the game is performing great on every platform. Of course, accordingly to platform capabilities, but not every platform should be great.”

Kicinski also touched on the game’s standalone multiplayer mode, which the developer rarely mentions. According to the CEO, it remains in development, but CD Projekt Red won’t be talking about it for a while yet.

“It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production. We think about it as a standalone product,” he said.

“Obviously, it’s not entirely standalone as it comes from the universe of Cyberpunk and is very much related to the concept of single player Cyberpunk we – I came up with. But from our perspective, it’s – is another independent production and independent team of people works on it.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is out December 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia.

I think most people are looking to play the game on PS5, Series X and PC but it's good news nonetheless.

They need to put all the effort they're putting into the MP into that Next Gen version. I dont wanna buy it until thats ready.

I cant even imagine how multiplayer would work. Hopefully its not just some simple deathmatch and something more like GTA 4s open world experience

Well yea, but I'm worried it won't, like GTA V didn't on 360/PS3
Unless you are playing on Base Xbox One/S and to a lesser degree PS4, I wouldn't sweat it. It'll probably be acceptable on consoles, just not look great next to a stable 60fps version.

I was impressed with GTAV on 360. That game looked great considering the hardware it was running on. Def. much better on PC, but for it's time, I had fun with it.

Multiplayer? *groan*
I am all down for a multiplayer game set in a CDPR world crafted with hearts and ingenuity.

There are only limited contents in the Witcher 3 (even though some thought they are too enormous to its own good) and after 100% completing the game twice , I still felt like being immersed in the world but the contents started getting stale. That's when I hope that they could make a live game with the stuff keep being added to the breathtaking world they have built.

Will play it on PC on my Potato PC until i buy better one next year.
GTX 970 ya all.
Same here. If I could manage 2x frame-rate of PS4 at equivalent settings, I'll be happy, haha.

Upgrading GPU next year. Waiting for a GPU that can deliver 2x perf of PS5's GPU.

One thing I don't understand. Why run the game in BC mode on next-gen machines until 2021?

I mean is it so hard and time consuming to do this? PC version exists. After porting, bring some of the PC's higher quality rendering features, textures, remove 30fps cap and keep the resolution same as Pro consoles or slightly higher.

They are barely able to finish on time version's on the platforms the game has been developed for let's say 5 years.

Imagine playing a AAA RPG game that's heavily focused on driving and shooting at 25-30fps. Glad they got it running decently though, considering the hardware.

I'm not very hopeful for the multiplayer. They already confirmed that it will have micro-transactions and Gwent was a pay to win experience. CDPR is looking to cash in on their fanboys when the multiplayer launches, you're a fool if you think otherwise.

Or just have an unlocked fps mode at dynamic resolution on current gen with a ceiling of 1080p, but for the next gen machines. Not that the old machines would ever maintain close to that.

There's probably not a "port to next gen consoles" compiler switch in the PC version. So it is probably pretty hard and time consuming.

“Surprisingly good” translates to pretty shit when compared to next gen consoles.
Jokes on you.

You want to compare a 500$ console that aims for 4K 60fps ray traced, to a 8 year old consoles that aimed for 1080p 60fps?

Well, I don't mind playing this game at low settings and 30 fps if needed. I imagine a lot of base PS4 owners, for example, think similarly.

Btw...I played Witcher 2 on a Dell laptop back in the day and it sure wasn't pretty but it worked.
