CDPR confirm that XSX footage of CP2077 was a BC version, seemingly no kind of patch at all for Next-Gen consoles at launch

what a waste of an opportunity, why would I buy this game after dropping nearly $700 CAD on a XSX....to play the same version available on my old xbox
answer: i won't, screw it, I'll wait for the updated version but by that time who knows if I'll even care to play this game

One of the old strengths of console was that you only needed to code for one platform. Or maybe 2-3 depending on the market.

Now, look at this shit: Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5. Eight fucking platforms! And the PC as well. Obviously, just from a management point of view, it makes sense to push back the XSX and PS5 versions if you have to because both of those have solid BC.

I mean, say what you will about Ubishit, they're shipping 3 major games this holiday season that support all of those natively, but I cannot imagine the logistics of getting all that out the door. Same with BLOPS.

Couldn't they just unlock framerates for next-gen day one? I wouldn't mind having to wait for RT update if we got some performance mode like AC Valhalla does. How hard can that be?

Un fucking believable

In a recent earnings presentation provided by CDPR, it has been confirmed that both the PS5 and XSX version of Cyberpunk 2077 are running via backwards compatibility which would mean that no day one support will come to boost frame-rates or resolutions for the new consoles.

Looks like we are definitely waiting till 2021 for that full fat next-gen experience boys.

Looks like?
This has been known for ages, confirmed and reiterated in the clearest possible way countless times and as recently as in the very recent console footage.

Yet, one "Un fucking believable" reaction has already showed up.

Totally false.
I don't know about XSX because I don't have it, but I've had a great experience so far on PS5 with Spiderman and Demon's Souls. Huge leaps in graphics, really impressive controller features, incredibly fast loadings, no noise compared to PS4/PS4 Pro, super fast UI with instaneous screenshot and high quality videocaptures, the BC improvements are transformative on some last gen games (see FFXV running at 60fps).
It's an other world compared to last gen although obviously it's just the starting point and some aspects need to be fully developed.

don’t see anything exciting about the stuff you mentioned sorry.

Doesn't seem like they'll offer an unlocked framerate option, which would have been a relatively easy improvement to implement I guess.

Yep, that wouldn't require anything extraordinary, and I'm sure the new consoles can handle it.

Even Ubisoft is doing it for Valhalla and Immortals

Ok that's up to personal preferences I guess, but why don't you tell us what are the exciting stuff that you wanted to see, that was *reasonable* to expect at launch and we didn't get in the new consoles compared to previous launches like PS4/XB1 and PS3/360.
Imo PS5 has done better than its predecessors on most fronts.

Point them out. Could just be placebo effect, BC is BC, graphic settings wouldn't change.

Xbox has an intermediate mode called "Gen9Aware" that runs games in backwards compatibility mode, but exposes some 9th gen features. Cyberpunk 2077 is using this intermediate mode.
Here's a list of a few other games.*
You can find the development version by looking at the file info on your Xbox console.

But didn't they specifically say the "next gen" version was working fine, they needed more time for the current gen version (ps4,one). I guess it was all shit, just the newer console could power through the issues.

People think like only difference between last gen and PC is "rtx". It is not , texture quality , all IQ related stuff(shadows,AF etc) is light years different

top of it NPC number is total joke on ps4/xbox one versions. I would suggest everyone to wait , it will drop off price + clear out bugs

Dirt5 also did it.

So CDPR is telling us to not buy and play 100h+ on that game if you own a PS5/XSX/RX6000 because a better version is coming sometime next year. I'll wait then, thanks for the heads up.

Man the timing for this game couldn't be worse.
If it had launched some months ago I think a lot of people would be more accepting of the next gen patch not being there day one. But now that the game is launching when these consoles are already out and after a bunch of cross gen games like AC Valhalla, Watch Dogs and COD already had next gen optimization at launch....it just looks bad that this is simply using basic backwards compatibility

But didn't they specifically say the "next gen" version was working fine, they needed more time for the current gen version (ps4,one). I guess it was all shit, just the newer console could power through the issues.

It was probably true though. I'd guess a month before launch the issues with the Ps4/XB1 version are mostly performance related. So next gen console should be able to fix those issues on their own much like every other last gen game with framerate issues.

A launch lineup that includes something other than cross gen titles and remasters would be nice for starters. I remember when a brand new console came with games you couldn't play on old consoles. Demons souls remastered is nice, but at the end of the day it's a game we've played before. There are no games out for the PS5 that make me want to go out and get one. If I have a PC that I can already games on with superior framerates and visuals, what exactly is the PS5 supposed to do for me right now? What's the selling point?

I just bought it on steam and will play it in my mid range 9700k and a 2080ti pc.

Hoping to get 4k@60fps dlss 2.0 hdr10 and dolby atmos.

I say dolby atmos as the dolby atmos application on the xbox has a demo of this and it is absolutely amazing!

Top 3 atmos examples I've heard.

Anyone know for sure if this has it on pc?

Edit.

Sorry but the most powerful GPU from a year ago and a 9700k doesn’t qualify your machine as “mid tier”, even by the never-ending elitist snobbery of PC hardware enthusiasts; your rig is still a monster.

This thread is kinda misleading though. They have only shown the game running via BC on next-gen consoles. and thats how the game will run on next gen consoles for now. There won't be a PS5/XSX port of the game at launch. But nowhere does it say that a day one patch won't add any enhancements to the game running on next gen consoles. Its absolutely possible that they can add a 60fps for next gen consoles, and it would still run via BC.

And think about it, why would they want to show the PS4 Pro/One X version of the game next to 60fps/better graphics footage of the PS5/XSX? It would just make the current gen version look more dogshit and people would just meme about it more than now. People would think that they need a next-gen console to fully enjoy this game. That would be just bad marketing.

My point is that you should just wait till launch, and hope for the best. CDPR themselves said the game will look better on next gen consoles, and i am still believing that until they officially announce that the day one patch will add no enhancements whatsoever to the game running on next-gen consoles via BC.

Wait, I thought we already knew this? They're barely getting this game out the door, no way the Next Gen upgrades are coming at launch, I fucking wish they were tho... but, no way. I wonder when the Next Gen versions will be released 🤔 They've only given us a year, 2021. I'd imagine that the team, even after release, will be working on bugs that will undoubtedly pop up once the general public gets it's hands on it.

Fuck em. If they do not want my 60$, they get my 30$ next year.

Is it THAT hard to patch resolution and some high GFX settings from the PC build? I get no raytracing but better effects n textures shouldn've been hard to do

It clearly shows how some of you haven’t even paid attention making comments like this.

There's like 6 graphics cards above mine now isn't there?

Titan rtx, 3080, 3090, 6800, 6800xt, 6900xt.

We already knew that a next gen patch wasn’t coming at launch. It was confirmed long ago. This isn’t news.
Wrong. Will be a ps5/xsx patch day one. Just not the full next gen version.

“As soon as either console is available, there'll be a day one update to Cyberpunk 2077 to improve visuals for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game.”

Not surprised at some anger. I’ve noticed that not everyone knows about the next-gen patch thing.

All I’ll say is that waiting for the next-gen version will pay off dividends, both in how it looks and plays, alongside all the bug fixes and tweaks we see, if it’s anything like Witcher 3. Might even have a bit more content.

This game shows two things;

1) why would you buy this game at launch to play it on an XSX/Ps5 (which is funny considering the delays)
2) The X1X is the best next gen console to own right now.

This thread shouldn’t be tagged as news, or any type of confirmation on anything. We have CDPR’s quote on it, and the op’s misinterpretation of an earnings presentation in which op claims there will be no day one performance patch because the game will be running via backwards compatibility, which makes zero sense. What op is claiming is false until CDPR says otherwise.

I am holding off until the next gen patch. I do hope I will not have to wait too long. As I believe I'm not alone in this, I think it would be in CDPR's best interest to release the patch asap. Even some people who don't own a next gen console yet seem to holding off...

You mean the ones that just came out and are impossible to find? Yeah I suppose so. There's also a threadripper CPU that's got 36 cores that makes your 9700k look like a fucking toaster. Point being? Technology is an ever-evolving door of advancement and innovation. My iPhone 11 Pro Max isn't a "mid tier" phone because there's a few phones out there that are more powerful now. Remember that the majority of people are still using 1080p monitors in the PC gaming space, which would put mid-tier around the 1060-1070 range, possibly below.

TL;DR: Don't get caught up in the FOMO bullshit, your rig is damn fine for a few more years.

It's going to be a long wait, given all the troubles. They're likely going to be still fixing bugs for the next few months.

That said I don't think they will just slap on BC mode for next gen at launch and call it a day. It won't be the full patch but it'll be something.

If it looks blurry as hell for Pro, then I can't imagine what it looks like on base and X1. Wouldn't be a good look for their release on consoles at large.
