Why The DualSense Could Be The Best PC Controller Ever

Sony controller support is shit on PC after dealing with issue after issue I gave up and started using my Xbox One Controller....no fuss plug and play
I'm this 👌 close to giving up on my DS3, it works ok when plugged in. I can get it to work over Bluetooth but have to reassign every other time I use it. So annoying. I would've given up a long time ago if I didn't love the DS3 so much.

Just like the majority of gimmicks it will be old in a couple months. Third party devs will stop supporting it or stop supporting it in innovative ways.

Also, I can’t imagine those gears lasting very long at all.

I have to imagine they durability tested the gear set up and everything to the point they know it’s longevity.

I'm excited to get mine soon! The Xbox one controller is a piece of shit that has a crack going down the middle of the grips right where your fingers rest. If I squeeze it slightly, the controller feels like it will crumble apart right in my hands.

Sadly it won't be. Sony doesn't care to support it for PC & game devs won't just do extra work for free. Still a nice controller for gyro but not sure I'd use it over Xbox Series one for PC. Heck I'd rather have the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ for extra size & swappable batteries instead.

Triggers are nothing like the updated Xboxs, look at some videos or diagrams what exactly is going on inside the triggers and controller it is not like the Xbox or any other. That said I love the feel Elite Series 2 it might still be priced too much, but Sony should offer something in premium range in a year or so, I would hope.

I do not think they will even include Ps5 controller features on a pc release of a game. Even if that game is avail on the ps5.

OP, I'm sure Dual Sense is great but we have to wait and see if it becomes the new standard for the industry.
360 gamepad was
1) pretty good
2) extremely cheap

also, companies usually don't like to spend extra time developing features that only a small part will use, which is a shame but it is the truth.

The best PC controller will always be the one that was actually built for PC gaming (Xbox Controller).
What do you mean "for" PC, just the touchpad (with mouse support) makes the DS4 more interesting to use on PC, because I can at least do basic operations with it (and I personally think it feels better in the hand).

I don't think you're going to see any of that kind of support on PC, but it'll probably still be the best controller on PC overall even without it, particularly on Steam.

I'm waiting on a different color so I can easily tell apart which is for my PS5 and which is for my PC.

I'm disappointed that this thread isn't filled with people talking about the incredible versatility of the Steam Controller. I know Valve has discontinued it, but it is without question the most versatile input device I've ever used for gaming. The options are staggering.

If you want a console-like experience, or are playing games built with controllers in mind, then an Xbox or PS controller is a great option. For PC games where controller support is lacking, or non-existent, Steam Controller is *chef's kiss*.

Umm, it does. Steam added support for DualSense. A lot of games already support DualShock 4 natively (don't require 3rd party support) with PS button prompts on screen like Witcher 3 and all of Ubi games, Titanfall 2, F1 2019, 2020 to name a few. DualSense will also work the same way on PC.

Uh, yeah, I know. I've tried on PC. Most games didn't work when I used it. Even in Steam. I'll just use the controller that's actually for PC. The Xbox Series X controller.

That's my only issue with the Series X/S. Microsoft didn't really innovate on the controller side of things. They do have patents for adaptive triggers so if it a feature that catches on I'm sure they will have an update in a year or two like they did for Xbox One.

It's drivers are built into the operating system. How is that not the most ideal PC controller?
Once you get the ds4 going it's better for 2d games (I run a lot of emulators), it also has more functions, and in Steam the support for one or the other is just as good.

The Xbox controller is literally made by the company that makes Windows :messenger_grinning_squinting:

This is quite the... faulty argument.

By this same logic, then, I assume that Microsoft Store is the definitive games store on Windows, better than Steam, GOG and the rest; I mean, Microsoft did it and they also did Windows, right? And what about games developed by Microsoft? They surely are the uncontested pinnacle of all gaming on Windows. And Paint is the best 2D graphics software, Edge the best browser, Movie Maker the best editing software...

At best, being from the same company writing your OS guarantees better compatibility and stability (for most of the things listed above even that is highly debatable btw). Why it should also make any product automatically the "ideal" one eludes me.

Meh, xbox controller is the standard and for that alone is leagues better if you want to make your pc gaming experience as simple as possible

Is anyone else’s controller really noisy? Reminds me of an old school dot matrix computer , just quieter

I would really like a PS style controller with the left analogue stick switched with the d-pad. Having your main directional button analogue and horizontal with the other buttons makes the most sense. The downside of the X-Box controller is that the trigger buttons on the back need pressing far too far down to be comfortable. The PS shoulder buttons are much better.

I won’t judge the features of the DualSense without trying them but looking at the analog sticks they seem to be the same material and shape as the DS4.

This makes me a bit nervous about it because I really find the X sticks better in every way: better grip, more comfortable to hold and more durable (the rubber on the DS4 started to wear out after a while even though I barely used it).

Remember how the DS3 had six-axis gyroscopics...and exactly two games used it at all? Same with the swipe shit on DS4 big button. Nobody will care in a month.

I still think the Elite 2 controller is the best to this day. I enjoy everything about it especially the back triggers. Easier to switch weapons than pressing Y all the time.

I see potential, but is very hard to beat Xbox Elite Controller.

So people already comparing the Dualsense with the Elite controllers.....nice! The Elite controller is more expensive so not really right to compare these 2 controllers, it's not the standard Xbox controller.

Imagine if Sony announced a DualSense Pro controller.

Read the title.

I can read, but i also see people comparing the DualSense with a much more "over expensive" controller (i have the first Elite controller). But for me they already beat the normal Xbox controller.

Not they only have to announce the Pro version.

I not talking about the price here. I know Xbox Elite Controller is a stupid overpriced controller, BUT still is the best controller so far with back buttons, custom buttons and even some custom changes to the pad. Thats need to be take into consideration, at least if people here really want to talk about controllers used on PC.

Sony take ages for creating a back button alternative. And I don't think Sony is prepare to make PRO controllers because they do fair controllers with fair price. Dualshock 4 is a very good controller for PC because of their dpad.

We're looking for the best, not the cheapest. 😅

No I don't think so...

Not because the PS5 controller is bad in any way but simply because it has zero support on Windows.

For it to actually take off Sony would have to release an official driver with access to all of the controllers features & making it xinput compatible, Sony is not going to do that.

PS4 controllers only work in Steam because Steam does some basic windows xinput emulation. Game developers rarely ever take PS controllers into account, at most you get a button icon swap in a game.

I think the features of the new controller are super cool and I’m excited to try them out for myself if I can ever get my hands on a PS5, but my worry is that they get thrown to the side a year in or by third parties.

The vibration for the triggers on Xbox One I stopped noticing like a week into owning it, and even vibration is something that if you turned it off on my console I would probably never actually notice.

Sony controller support is shit on PC after dealing with issue after issue I gave up and started using my Xbox One Controller....no fuss plug and play
This. I don’t wanna rely on a third party program to have 100% support. Steam support is great but so many games still show Xbox inputs only and with stuff like Forza Horizon 4 I can’t have any game launchers besides Xbox open to have my DualShock work properly.

I just bought a Series X controller today to replace my DualShock on PC.

I need a new controller.
My ps4 20th anniversary edition pad has died. It has never been dropped or mishandled so I assume the battery is dead.

Having actually used the DualSense now I can say that IMO it's hands down the best controller Sony have ever made... However, the bar is low, as I've hated all the others, and still hate the symmetrical sticks and non-replaceable battery. This one though feels like it's built more with quality in mind, and it feels closer to the Xbox controller than anything they've managed before, and less like a toy. I like it much more than I expected too. That said...

The hype over the haptics is massively over the top IMO - it's just rumble again, and the resistance on the triggers is... okay I guess? But not necessary. I can see me turning that off in the near future. Played Astro's Playroom, and you assume that's as good as it gets - I am whelmed, was expecting more given the gushing that's gone on.

My biggest hate though is that tinny speaker in the controller that completely throws off the sound experience for me. Not sure who thought that added anything worthwhile. Coming from the quite stunning Dolby Atmos that the Series X puts out, which just works, I've found myself constantly fiddling with the levels on PS5 trying to get it to sound right, between the console and the controller speaker. Been quite a frustrating experience so far.

DS4 is perfect for PC, the dualsense doesn't seem to have a flat area for buttons, can't stand "ergonomic" design. I hate every controller that does that shit with the button area. (I'll have to try it tho I guess)

The worst I've held with those type of buttons is the switch pro controller, those buttons feel like STINKY ASS
