The amount of defending this is ridiculous. Xbox has been COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT since day one about the Series X. And they got shitted on only for Sony to turn around and do the same thing.

Sony on the other hand won't answer basic questions about the PS5's functions. Letting their fanyboys spread lies and disinformation unfettered.

Tells you this will be the quickest transition of any of their generations. Implying that to get most of Sony's 1st party you would need to rush out and pre-order a PS5.

Tells you all PS4 games work (except a short list) with improvements on PS5. Turns out there are plenty of games not on their list that have issues.

Tells you their variable clocks are really sustained clocks and will be at Max frequencies at all times.

Tells you they are for gamers but yet they're the main ones spearheading $70 games.

When will people wake up?

So you really thought they were not going to make a PS4 game after the PS5 was released??!!
And why do you care so much? Drama

Xbox Series X|S are the only next gen consoles with real next gen exclusives coming in 2021/22, take this as a fact and don't be nervous.
Yeah? Which ones? What dates? What exclusives? They're better on PC already. Until the XsX gets its own exclusive the PC has obsoleted it already. That is the problem with this dumb ass ecosystem. You aren't giving me a reason to buy an XsX when I look at that showcase shit I can barely believe that was current gen.

it's not about Sony, Sony is obviously smart with this. It's about fanbois.
Which ones? The ones that can't accept that the PS4 games are still coming and might impact their PS5 experience? Or the ones that just want to come in and shit on things because Sony?

Microsoft: we want to support our previous console while offering a better experience on One X
Neogaf: haha cross gen sucks, Craig sucks and its because of cross gen and not 343i.
Sony: we believe in generations.
Gaf: Yes Sony you just keep on going
Also sony: alright we make cross gen games and you have to buy the game two times.
Gaf:

Sony is launching with a major PS5 exclusive with others coming in a couple months.
It's totally different the Microsoft that couldn't even have their big cross gen game ready and would need to have raytracing patched in.

It's funny seeing people desperate to pretend they are anywhere near the same level.
This "outrage" will disappear in a couple months when The exclusives that we already know about are being talked about nonstop making the people who are trying to act up hear look even dumber when they ignore reality.

I can understand why people are confused about this. I mean, it somehow makes people feel like they're not going to get a true next gen experience for real on PS5, till 2024 as game development caters to the lowest common denominator first. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here)

Also those who say Sony have always done this, clearly haven't been paying attention to their transition strategy since 2000.

I don't recall Uncharted, Ratchet TOD, Resistance FOM or Killzone 2 releasing on PS2 back in 2006-2009 - so it's weird from that perspective.

However, it makes perfect business sense to do so. Not everyone is going to buy a PS5 in the first year, so releasing new games cross-gen caters to the 110m+ PS4 install base.

You can only thrive in this industry as a console manufacturer with exemplary oftware sales, so it's in Sony's best interests to keep "supporting" the PS4 until the transition is complete. By complete I mean, PS5 being in full swing and the PS4 being sunset, software wise.

Also as has been previously mentioned, the likes of EA and Ubisoft will continue releasing their yearly microtransactional garbage on PS4 till 2030 earliest lol..

I will re-post the post I made regarding Sony supporting their consoles for 10 years from here.

I don't understand some of these over-reactions.

Sony has always promised they support their consoles for 10 years. And Sony did support their consoles for 10 years.

Sony shipped GOW2, a PS2 game after the PS3 launched but the different architecture ensured the game was available only on PS2.

If the next GOW:Ragnarok is going to be released in 2021. Then I assume it will most likely be cross-gen game. Considering PS4 and PS5 use the same x86 Architecture, they will most likely be less effort relatively to port say, GT6 and Puppeteer which were both phenomenal games. These 2 games could have easily doubled its lifetime sales figures if they were also available on PS4. These is one of the main benefits of having the same architecture moving forward. Games made for old hardware don't get abandoned by players who move to next-gen consoles.

If Sony need to be questioned for anything then it should be for dropping Real Time Ray Tracing for Demon's Souls. A 1440p RT mode with RT audio/reflections/shadow would have been exceptional.

Ok..... That's weird.... Why not release Demon's Souls on PS4 too?

Horizon 2, Spider MM and other games are coming to PS4 already.... Weird stuff.

For me it makes more sense right now get a Series X (since I skipped the Xbox One) and then later get a PS5.... That's the message that I get from all this.

So let's see the change in narratives now:

Old narrative: PS MUST produce AAA 1st party exclusives as next-gen only.
Result: Not happening for at least 3yrs.
New narrative: If they have decent enough graphics differences from PS4 to PS5 like Spiderman MM, then we are OK with that. ALthough we fail to see these same differences in multiplat games from console to high end PC graphics features..

Old narrative: PS will have native 4k/60FPS games.
Result: PS5 will have "dynamic res" 4k/60FPS and native 4k/30FPS
New narrative: We can deal with that as long as the game continues to look like past gen PS4 exclusives.

Old narrative: PS will have full RT features in games.
Result: Only RT reflections are available right now.
New narrative: RT is too expensive anyway. We'll be happy with the RT reflection games though.

Face it, you guys will accept anything Sony withdraws from the old narrative.

Sony didn't create a narrative that they were bound to iron-clad conformity with a ludicrously absolutist interpretation of what they said.

The only way the "old narrative" changes is if every title they release is bound to the conditions in every instance. Which is never, ever going to be the case because devs have got better things to do than to be slavishly bound to an arbitrary checklist of (business and technical) performance metrics!

Doubly so at launch when deadlines are tight and unyielding. And during a pandemic to boot.

Xbox One S launched at $299 and is still in production. Xbox One S Digital Edition launched at $249 and never had an official price cut before it was discontinued In July 2020.

They don't drop the prices that low any more. Sorry.

Sorry, that does not work. Xbox One S was not a new console and you know it. Black Friday deals will definitely drop below what you said.

We know they will make ps4 games probably 5+ years in, which are usually sports or dance games anyways. It does seem we will get some exclusives like ratchet and demon souls, an some cross like horizon, and possibly god of war. We won’t see any real exclusives till 22.

nah they gonna backtrack those word when ps5 sales gained momentum while ps4 is in decline later.

i say 2 years at most. dragged it more would be bad for industry. they should learn at what happened at end of ps360 generation. funny that time both consoles manufacturer said they comitted to not dragged it again.

Ratchet is a real exclusive. As is Demons Souls

Sure it was. You can move the goal posts all you want. It's still not going to be $150. At a 7nm process there's not much cost savings to find through traditional cost cutting methods. They'll replace it with a new model at the same price before they let it go that low. Just like they've been doing for the last two generations.

Ratchet & Clank, Demon's souls, astroboy: niche games/genres = PS5 exclusives.

Horizon, Spiderman, GT7, GoW (maybe?): mainstream blockbuster titles = crossgen.

It's quite clear what they mean, you'd be dumb to think any of the "big games" coming out in the next years will be PS5 only.
I thought Sony only announced GT7 and GoW only for PS5

Sony should have said oh hey yeah that ps4 we sold over 100 million of yeah we are gonna drop that thing in 2021.
Or maybe just adopt the same stance as Xbox from the very begining.? This "generations talk" is what makes people kinda annoyed.

We fought over this shit so many times, that the Xbox One would hold the Series X back, while the PS5 wouldn't have this "issue" and now Sony is saying the same thing as MS was saying...

He’s talking about 3rd party games. We already know games like Ratchet and Clank Demon’s Souls GoW and others are PS5 only.

You're definitely the one moving goal post. Ineffectively.

Xbox One S is an Xbox one. Xbox One was $500 at launch. Starting at $300, theres no way the XSS lowest they'll go is $250. Hell black Friday deals on the Xbox One were that low if not lower, with a starting line of $500.

"Cost savings" with a 7nm. You're full of it. Like you have the parts list in front of you along with the original Xbox One for comparison. This proves to me you have no were to go.

So Sony really wants to hit the 150 million units sold... and get a lot of cash since PS4 & PRO are so over priced now since the PS5 is there.

It really makes sense when you think business.

Anyone who believed in that “we believe in generations” line doesn’t work in business and believes everything a politician promises them

3 years? That is longer than the 2 years i spoke of.
But it is not surprising. This is the same transition i posted when sonygaf were still believing in Jimbo fake news.

When Sony said they believe in generations, were people really taking that to mean there will be ZERO cross-gen games on PS5?

I'm dumbfounded by the reaction I'm seeing to this news. For me, it was clear they wouldn't just drop support for a console with over 100 million users. I am starting to think people believe finding a grievance gives their lives meaning.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Why?

Assume the PS5 launches really well and manages to sell 20 million units in the first year - the PS4 install base will still be more than 5 times larger.

lol do people really believe this?

how many of those 20m PS5 user will have their PS4 around. Lets just agree that majority of people who would be buying AAA games in a year or two would have transition to new generation. More so this time since its backward compatible

I don't know. Plans change according to what's happening in the market.

PS5 adoption is going to be fast, probably faster than any before it. If they can make 20 mil the first year thats what will be sold.

As long as the game looks like a next gen game IDC.

I thought they're gonna go through with it killing off PS4 fast when we already have PS4 sales slowing down hard these 1-2 months, due to lack of stocks.

Lol they backtracked and basically trolled even their own fanbase. "We believe in generations" my ass.

When it's said in direct response to Microsoft saying they're going to support their older consoles for a couple of years, yeah kinda. Maybe not zero though. But to switch over to 3 years is laughable

I'm talking in terms of the PS4 consoles' technical limitations. Devs don't like to deal with PS4's severely limited Jaguar CPU and design their games around the painfully slow laptop drive. I understand you don't want to abandon the huge PS4 install base but it's also a big headache.

Don't care. Just keep pumping out good exclusives. Can't wait to get my hands on PS5. Anybody wanna sell their pre-order. Last chance? I'm paying $550. That's enough for 2/3 of a next gen game.
