The physical Xbox version of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is so misleading.

I can't believe what a mess this is and am surprised people aren't making a bigger deal about it.

If you buy this version of the game which states "Xbox Series X" on the cover, it's the Xbox One version of the game compatible on the Series X via backwards compatibility, the only thing that makes you realise this is the incredibly small writing at the bottom of the box art.

Now to make matters even worse, if you buy that version thinking it includes the XSX version only to find out it doesn't (like I almost did), you can't even upgrade to the XSX version without buying the game again.

There's going to be a lot of people not buying the right version of the game and in all honesty, it's embarrassing you can't upgrade the game.

Is the paid upgrade a Sony paid exclusive feature?

Thats hilarious and ridiculous...but probably true..omfg.

That has to be the most anti consumer thing ive seen in a while lol.

That sucks!! What happened with smart delivery? Only applies to digital?

Since I was on pc before my xsx arrives I doubt I will ever buy a disc version but I know there's lots of people here who love having their discs

I'm a huge fan of Treyarch's work but I'm just ignoring all COD threads cause I fucking hate Activision. I love the Neogaf Ignore function.

No. There is a Series X physical copy as well, which also includes a last gen digital code. It’s the box that has the XSX logo. OP is dumb as hell. This thread is the definition of concern troll

He might have got some stuff wrong but Activision could have just offered one version which gives you the next gem upgrades if you play it on one.

They really should've changed the packaging color to make them more distinguishable. I mean, at least Xbox One games read Xbox One at the top, but Series X games just say Xbox. I'm sure plenty of people will make that mistake in a hurry.

I don't see it being misleading to be honest. It clearly says XBOX ONE on the top. But since it's also compatible to Series X, it mentions it in smaller letters and below. It doesn't mention Series S (as it should not) and this cover is clearly not a Series X cover.

How could anyone possibly know that it's the Xbox One version?

I do think the naming scheme is retarded, but come on.

Because almost all games releasing in this launch window will have smart delivery meaning you get a free upgrade to the game depending on the console you play.

This is Activision controlling / getting around the smart delivery.

You seriously don't think the Xbox One version saying "Xbox Series X" on the box front and centre is confusing?

It almost seems to indicate that the game will run on Xbox series X, but that can’t be true can it? There’s simply no way that an Xbox one game could run on Series X!

The version that says “XBOX ONE” will be on the shelf next to the versions with the big Series X logo. That’s clear as day dude

You think I can read?

I cant read.
I can only differentiate all the different kinds of phone out there.
Know the difference between 1080p and 1440p.
Know the difference between 1440p and 2160p.
Know the difference between 60fps and 57fps.
Know the difference between the XB1 version and Series X version.....but not by reading.
Realize the difference between PCIE3 and PCIE4.
Know when im looking at Planar, Screen Space or Raytraced Reflections.
Can navigate the Meta Game of Call of Duty
Can build like a champ in Fortnite
Play only one game at a time, but still need more than 360GB but less than 660GB of SSD storage for my game.

Im capable of all this and much more complicated procedures...hell im getting a Series X early, but if you think I can read the big green bar at the top of the disc case.....sir you are greatly greatly mistaken.

They're not really "getting around it" as much as they're choosing not to offer it. They're not obligated, but I'm also not defending that.

I'm just saying that the box has massive "XBOX ONE" text at the top like every other Xbox One game from the past 7 years. It's clearly not the Xbox Series X version. Again, the naming scheme is retarded, but it's right there.

Valhalla just says "XBOX" at the top and has the new "optimised for X" sticker in the corner.

Valhalla is a Smart Delivery title....doesnt matter which version you buy it will Install the appropriate version for your console.

Literally nothing to be confused about.

They still could remove the Series X mention.

But it DOES work on Series X. It even says "Xbox one game playable on Series X" at the bottom. You could pay ten bucks less and not get the improvements if you really wanted.

If it doesn't run on the Xbox Series X, then that label shouldn't be on the box.

May as well have adverts for fucking Hotpoint washing machines at this point.

Don't matter dude. Is just like Sony putting PS5 in their old games just because work on BC. I guess my point here is transparency. Its easy for us, game lovers, to make judge of this situation, but lay people will never note the differencial between a BC game and a native game.

For comparisons sake, here is the Series X version box. At a quick glance, they’re close enough to identical for uninformed people or parents to purchase the wrong thing, especially when a lot of those people will see $60 vs $70 and buy the $60 one.
I wonder which parent see the supposedly same product in close shelves with almost 15% of difference in price, and not ask him / herlsef what the difference might be or take a closer look to the damn thing.

According to some of you here in NeoGaf, parents seems incapable of buying stuff on their own and live independently.

I love consoles. You just buy the disc, put it in, and it works. You don't have to worry about versions or anything like that.

Oh wait.

I just have to shake my head. This is the company that locks their single player campaigns behind an online update, rendering the disc a mostly useless delivery medium. You’d think at a minimum they would allow users to have a series x patch with their damn online checkin.

Oh yeah! :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Durrrrrrrr.
Hahaha. It’s all good. When you said the thing about branding. I was like “hey, wtf yeah! Why can’t they get it together.”

yeah they are being shitty all around. Ther eis no reason this shouldnt be smart delivery except for greed. its not like that do not make most of the m oney off MTs anyway.

No, the Sony version is just a different kind of misleading given that it says nothing about paying $10 extra for the upgrade on the cover.

None of it is particularly great, but I stand by my point that the Xbox One version clearly says Xbox One at the top of the case like every other game from the last seven years. Even if Microsoft's naming convention is dumber than a box of rocks.

So, both have the problem. I guess you're not understand how bad this can be for the standart consumer. IMO they should remove this mention, either Xbox or PS.

Why? It's what they did with Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One and there wasn't this level of concern.
Because if the game will get a next gen version than sell that as the other product, not like BC.

You're not getting the problem, will be vast numbers of version around the store. Will sucks for a lay people. 'but, but its just look to the box', don't matter, will still be confusing.
