Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - Review Thread

The fact it is made by the team behind Black Flag and Origins gives me hope it can be an amazing title.

Odyssey was a piece of shit imo, some love it and I am glad they do, but I never got into it, even after 45 hours.

I normally only play one Assassins Creed/Far Cry every 3/4 years to avoid repetition. I did that with Odyssey and loved it. The last one I played before that was Black Flag.

Unless the reviews are terrible I'm going to give this one a go. They got so lucky Cyberpunk was delayed from a sales perspective.

Looking at the size of the map it looks like they are going to fill it with of bunch filler quests and you have to grind through those so you can progress through the main story otherwise enemies few levels above you insta kill you. If that's the case fuck this game and fuck ubisoft. If that's not the case, there's hope for the game, but I'm certain that's the case.

Apparently the side quests are one of the best parts according to those who have played it.

Thats because Odyssey is not a story game. It's a multiple story game as the name implies, an odyssey. It has a main story naturally but its not that important, the game doesnt even force you to finish "them". Odd that you didnt like it since you liked Origins. They're almost the same in regards to everything but the story. Bayek was meh as a protagonist almost as boring as Connor.

Thats common in a lot of of RPG's though. And how else coud you do it?. People moaned about Odyssey having enemies that scale with you, so now you have set enemy levels, and people are moaning about having to do side stuff to level up to take on those enemies.

Cashgrabs?, there will probably be more content in Valhalla than any game launching this fall, probably more than any game launching next year as well.
Imagine getting 'pissed' at a game you dont like getting good scores.

Content? Mindless collectibles are now considered content?
Rowing in the river and raiding the 100x copy pasted location is content?
The piss poor quality of this franchise, dare I say every Ubisoft game makes everything seem less appealing.
You’re in in England and the very first side quest is about a man who can’t please her wife in bed lol. That alone should tell you what’s in their mind when making games.

In your case Odyssey was the best game ever made in the industry then. It has more content than Valhalla.

Quantity<Quality
Asscreed franchise has gone to shit. Every Ubi game is an average jank. I won’t judge you though, have fun playing Valhalla but please don’t argue that it’s content is anything worth praising.

I won’t go deeper but just go and look what they’ve done with modern AC. Absolute shit tier writing.

Actually Odyssey was my fave game this gen:messenger_winking:
I'm sorry you hate the franchise, and Ubisoft. You're certainly not alone.

Mindless collectibles? It's clear you havent played any of the last AC games and you're just posting inaccurate crap so why are you here in a thread about AC which you dont give a shit about? gtfo

It wasn't the story for me personally, I just wasn't too mad on the characters themselves and Greece isn't really my favourite setting.

AC Origins I found the revenge plot not very interesting but enough of a plot device to keep pressing forward, I think Origins handled it's pacing better than Odyssey as I was far less fatigued near the end of Origins than I was after 40-50 hours of Odyssey, maybe it will click for me sometime but I just didn't vibe with much of the game in general, it was my fault for buying it really as Greece didn't interest me from the off.

Rural England and Norway are two great settings to base a game and I adore the history of the Saxons and Vikings, which make this a dream title for me in that aspect, I just hope the story is okay at least and the gameplay doesn't get stale quickly.

Why not 91.578? That would tell us a lot more.

Because it has flaws, and stealth and gameplay aren't as good as Ghost of Tsushima (97 to me). Overall animations since Origins don't look sharp enough to my liking. The story is simply marvelous, enjoyed every second of the main game and the DLC's and finished everything there, was around 250+ hours or more, don't remember.

Played as Alexios.

I know AC creed are not to be played for historical accuracy, but are the English (Saxon Kingdoms) really going to be the bad guys in this, with the Vikings invaders being the good guys? If so, that's fucking diabolical.

Instead of getting heated and accusing me of telling inaccurate information research a bit more.
I’ve already finished AC Valhalla mate, the game is nothing more or less than the previous two. Just some tweaks here and there.

To my shame I’ve played every single AC game and I clearly care about this franchise more than you. Because I actually remember what it was about. These RPGs are not Assassin’s creed. They just have the brand so they get recognized.

Grow up kiddo and stop shilling for Ubi shit.

That does seem to be the case, Vikings also will do no pillaging, raping to innocents

No they’re not painted as bad guys but the problem is Vikings are painted as good people, well more than they ever were in history.
but don’t get too upset the game isn’t all that deep. They tried to keep everything natural.
They even went out of their way to make sure you can’t kill civilians as Vikings in your raids. You could go on killing sprees in Odyssey but no Vikings didn’t kill or rape in their pillages.

I predict plenty of 8's and 9's. Going for a 86 Meta.
Yes that sounds high, but a few streamers i watch have been very impressed by the game. I think its going to review well.
what i saw from feature and game flow i could agree but i wonder if technical polish will not prevent that

Yeah this accusing each other of 'fud' and 'shilling' really needs to stop on this forum. You cant talk positively or negatively about anything without being accused of it sigh.

As for 'this isnt AC anymore', its been this way for 3 games now, and Ubisoft own AC, so AC is whatever they make it, and since Origins thats been Witcher style open world rpgs. People need to let it go already, and move on.

Just another piece of shit formulaic open world game riddled with transactions made from a piece of a shit company. I hope it scores as low as possible but it'll probably score an 78.

Yes sir. Anything else?

So we should just shut up? Why should we let it go?

I still thinks it’s not too late to actually revive Assassin’s creed. Go back to its roots.
I still have hope. I’ll wait and see their next game. If by then they haven’t done any changes, then you’re right. I should probably move on. It’s just so sad man... if only they delayed Unity *sighs*

You're the one talking shit and crying about the series lmfao. You should take up your own advice and piss off.

The whole reason they changed AC was because Untiy and Syndicate underperformed, and the series was getting stale. They made no secret of the fact they were rebooting the series into a more RPG angle, they even specifically mentioned Witcher 3 as well.
Origins, and especially Odyssey, have been huge sellers, so this open world RPG style is here to stay.

Unity remains an underrated gem for me, it still is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen.

I played AC Origins and Odyssey in a row, 109 hours for Origins and 190 for Odyssey. It's true they are repetitive and they have flaws, but I really enjoyed both and had fun. Looking forward to play Valhalla on PS5.

I can see this hitting around 83, it's not earth shattering but it's solid, it retains enough from odyssey to please fans of that game. It's performance is a bit hit and miss on certain consoles, it looks pretty enough, but it won't be mistaken for a next gen offering, nor is it best in class in terms of last gens graphics. There are quite a few glitches that need ironing out, which I expect some reviews will cover. I was hoping for more story focus, but it's more telling smaller stories, similar to odyssey.

I really hope it is better than Odyssey. It was just too much of the Ubi forumla and rinse and repeat combined with too much grind and a map that was way too big.

But my trust in Ubisoft is very limited and I´m sure it will be just more of the same instead of meaningful additions and improvements ...

If there are no major bugs: 85+ easily. Below 80 is a disaster and I don't believe Ubi would show that to happen.

Most PC reviews don't acknowledge issues with performance or they'll briefly mention them but won't reflect them in their scores. If odyssey ran good for you, I see no reason why this would run bad. Just lower volumetric clouds and you'll be good.

Congratulations. You can post memes. Here's a sub for you: r/teenagers.

Whatever helps you sleep at night dude. Pathetic behaviors honestly. I expected better. You have zero counter points and just want to live in a bubble. I think Era has a nice AC OT. Go there for seeking safe space. I’m sorry your favorite game is trash. Truth sucks.
would’ve loved to delve deeper about the issues the game has but you’re not fit. Maybe one day.
