The official Zen 3 with Ryzen 5000 reveal thread

Besides the price, 5900x seems the more future proof cpu you can get, considering gpu bound scenarios.

5600x and 5900x are the most logical choices right now. Get 5600x and change it when games starts to really use more than 8/12 threads or get 5900x right now. BUT games might start to benefit from more threads when Zen4 and Intel 12 series are on the market so...

I had a chance to get the 5800x and 5900x. I didn't bite. Now I'm regretting it.

Does anyone know if AMDs next iteration ( lets call it Zen3+ or ryzen 6000? not talking about Zen4 5nm ) will be compatible with 5000 series Motherboard?

Zen 4 will be AM5 (with DDR5). Just buy 5900x when they restock.

Edit: I doubt there will be Z3+

Impressive showing by AMD. Zen 3 is the real deal its on par or faster in most games and interestingly massively faster in one vulcan title that I saw.

Now I don't blame AMD for matching Intel in pricing with 5800x since its most of the time faster than 10700k and its AMD's top gaming CPU. But very important for AMD is how they gonna price 5600. 3600 was the most epic deal for gamers for over a year.

There is an outside possibility of Zen 3 or 3+ on AM5 with DDR5. It depends on the timing for when DDR5 becomes viable/common, but AFAIK all they'd need is new boards & new IO dies for the same cpu chiplets. Not in the roadmaps or anything, but an option they can have on the table.
Not what duhmetree was getting at, though. Just discussin'.

Re-posting here from PC thread as this thread is more active. Please help out.

I got a 5600x processor and now deciding on the mobo. Should I get a X570 or B550? Here in my country there is around 20% price difference between these two (B550 is cheaper, comparing Gigabyte Aorus Elite in both). Will both of these support the Smart Access Memory (SAM) feature of I get an AMD 6800XT? What are the benefits of X570 over B550 and are they worth a 20% price difference. Please note that I dont plan to overclock my CPU but want a good robust build.

Any 500 series board according to few sites I looked at.

You’ll need three ingredients to unlock the Smart Memory Access feature: A Radeon RX 6000 GPU (all models support it), a Ryzen 5000 processor, and a standard 500-series motherboard.
From here
Smart Access Memory (SMA) – The company has also introduced the Smart Access Memory feature. It allows the Ryzen CPU to access the graphics card’s GDDR6 memory for accelerating performance. Users will need a Ryzen 5000 series CPU, an RX 6000 series GPU, and either a B550 or an X570 motherboard.

I recently decided between B550 and X570. Keep in mind my build is mini ITX. I went with B550 due to wanting a front USB C header. It still has the PCIE 4.0 M2 slot, so I was happy.

I didn't care about price when making my decision.

By the time the 5600X is your bottleneck you will be building a whole new system anyway.
The IPC gains see the 5600X keeping up or trumping the 3700X in Multithreaded operations, the processor everyone said was the absolute minimum for nextgen gaming.

Yes if you have the dollar spend as much as you can, but if you are doing a bang for buck build to last you like 5+ years easy and right now even for multithreaded operations the 5600X is doing fucking work for the price.

So its like futureproofing for a situation you will never actually reach....and if for some reason in 5 years you cant afford a full new build 5900 and 5950s will still be there.

So basically get a B550 if there is a substantial price difference between x570 and b550. If not, go with x570. For almost all practical scenarios, there is no performance difference.

At the end, the other guy testing it it says 2x 16GB sticks are even better than 4x 8GB. 2x 8GB is bad though.

Good thing I just bought 2x16gb crucial sticks :p wont claim I knew the perf diff. Just thought 32GB might be needed next gen and got 2 sticks for dual channel :p

What I found most interesting about that video was the temps. I keep hearing the 5800X runs pretty f'ing hot, but it looks like while gaming (which is my primary use) it's not much different than the other two. Yes, he's got a good AIO, but so do I, so that helps settle my concerns.

SiSoftware's Executive Summary:
Zen3 (X, 8-core) is ~25-40% faster than Zen2 (X, 8-core) across all kinds of algorithms. We have to give it 10/10 overall!

Despite no major architectural changes over Zen2 (except larger 8-core single CCX layout and thus unified L3 cache), Zen3 manages to be quite a bit faster across legacy and heavily vectorised SIMD algorithms: it beats the competition even with AVX512 and more cores (e.g. 10-core SKL-X). Even streaming algorithms (memory-bound) improve over 20%. We certainly did not expect performance to be this good.

In effect, it is like getting 50% more cores – 8-core Zen3 performs like a 12-core Zen2 (e.g. 3900X) – and thus even a 10-core 10900K cannot compete. Considering you can just “pop it” into an existing AM4 mainboard (requires a BIOS update to support it) it is a massive upgrade from say, original Zen1/Zen+.

AMD could have the following

Zen 4 chiplet + AM4 I/O chiplet
Zen 4 chiplet + AM5 I/O chiplet

With Zen 3, AMD changed Zen chiplet while keeping the existing AM4 I/O chiplet. AMD's chiplet design enables AMD to evolve quickly.

It doesn't really use enough power to run that hot.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Missed this, numbers look pretty sweet, including 5800X temperatures.

Jesus why is that 8 core 150 bucks more? holy shit that's expensive.
Same price difference as Zen 2 3600X vs 3800X at launch (249 vs 399). 5700X will be the inbetween with 8 cores, probably like ~80 more/less again.

Yea but u got a 3700x which also had 8 cores and launched for 320 bucks.

300 bucks for a 6 core and 450 bucks for 8 core is laughable expensive. Hell the 5600x even goes for 340. AMD pulling a intel.

The best is dual rank 2x16 GB set because it easier to overclock. Not the same as dual channel. I am not sure if all 2x16gb sets are dual rank but 2x8gb are not as they are mostly (if not all) single rank.

https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/ has some listed if you need to check your ram.

I mean, even the 6 core ~299 model beats everything from Intel and trades blows with the ~488 10900K in single and multi threaded tasks despite the core difference according to that video so, doesn't seem so laughable or quite pulling an Intel.

As for retailers selling it over MSRP that's their deal (as it was when they were selling the 10900K for 599 just a while ago, hell, I guess due to shortages hagglezon shows it at no less than 970 EUR (!) at the moment for example), find it at MSRP....

Guess it depends on if you want the processor for it to do like, processing and stuff, or just for the specs on paper like number of cores or transistors or the clocks or whatever regardless of how it actually performs the tasks it's meant to be doing.

Got my 5600X installed today. Haven’t tested it yet since it was a new build and, as always, there was some troubleshooting. But it’s up and running now. Very excited to game on it!

If my mobo gets the BIOS update to support the new chips I’ll be slapping one in. Really happy with the longer term support of AM4 from AMD.

Yeah. I was able to find on crucial website that mine is indeed dual rank :)
I think most 16GBs are dual rank, but some arent. Thankfully I got lucky. I was ordering a corsair (which are also good) after days of research when I see, at the absolute last moment, crucial ballistic, with slightly better specs and cheaper price! Ordered them. Only later I got to know that micron makes them and that they have the micron-e die which allows better overclocks and is also dual rank.
Pure luck. Hopefully that continues when I other parts of the PC :p

Much worse than Intel. I don't recall Team Blue ever raising prices $100 or $130 on core equivalent generational successors. Intel actually kept pricing stable, they just artificially slowed performance gains and core count increases. AMD however is trying to bring the Nvidia business model to CPU's whereby they're hoping to gradually normalize $500+ Ryzen 5's and $800-$1000 Ryzen 7's. They will succeed if they can continue to outperform Intel, the Huang family is ruthless and there is no ceiling on what fools are willing to pay for performance computer components.

I am getting a bit tiring of this trend and absolute zero backslash on it with everybody endlessly praising them because intel and nvidia also does it. It's beyond annoying.

Just look at there CPU devision.

7700k launched here for 300
8700k launched here for 350
9900k launched here for 500
10900k launched here for 500+

5700xt 400 bucks
6700xt 650 bucks

5700XTX 450 bucks
6700XTX 999 bucks.

We all know the shit nvidia is pushing with prices its not even remotely funny anymore so i won't bother linking those prices its just terrible.

Look i am for performance gain and progress but lately how AMD increased the prices just makes me wonder ( the same with intel and nvidia ) if they simply just talk with each other and up the prices considerable for the consumers to pay up towards. And not a single critical voice gets pushed on any of them. It's constantly the defending talking points of but but the competition also does it!!!!!.

From a breath of fresh air with there ryzen and 5000 gpu's towards straight up joining the shit stain of intel and nvidia price gouging.

Couple of great gaming benchmarks here. I thought the 5600X was nearly the same as a 5900X in gaming but some games, like Death Stranding, show a notable difference. It’s not huge but it is definitely there. Wonder if that will become more prominent in the future.

Does anyone know how 5600X stack up against 3700X?
At least the reviews I've seen the 5600x is better at single core performance and therefore better at gaming than the 3700x. Multithreaded performance is largely comparable except for use cases that are extremely multithreaded heavy such as rendering where the 3700x ekes out a win. Pricing and availability greatly favor the 3700x as you can actually get one easily. Also if you keep your eyes open you can get a 3700x for under $300. If you want a 5600x at this point pretty much ebay only, expect to pay 400-500 for one.(Unless you have a microcenter and I have no idea if they still have them.) No idea when more 5600x will be in stock.

Mine does quite well I think, 4.65GHz with just PBO. Performance in games that were killing 3600 is much improvement, like in WDL:

It was dropping to 30 - something on 3600...

But RPCS3 is acting weird, in some game it's much better but in others is WORSE than 3600. Maybe program needs some updates.
