Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - Digital Foundry Tech Review - Welcome To The Next Generation

It's amazing how much better this looks just because of essentially higher quality versions of the assets and better draw distance.

Just those alone is a huge leap. The image quality is sensational.

I have to admit I'm pretty torn between the RT and 60fps, it's a shame we have to choose.

Surely we could have had both if they took the resolution down to PS4 Pro levels?

The quality of the models and particularly the fidelity of materials is just astonishing. His clothes/suits/shoes look so fucking good.

I doubt we will get the same goodness from 3rd party, or not for a while anyway.

Are you serious? So now that the first PS5 game come out using typical RT reflections, it's suddenly viable now when you guys shit on all the other games using RT reflections nearly the exact same way? What a bunch of fanwarriors. All we heard in the WD game was how RT was "meh" and not needed.

I'm not surprised to see the comments about RT now looking amazing once it has released on a PS5 exclusive game. For 2yrs, RT has been ignored since it was demonstrated on multiplatform games even if the implementation is identical (as such is the case). We can all now agree that the following games have a remarked difference in fidelity than their non-RT modes:

BF5
Control
Metro: Exodus
Watch Dogs: Legion
Ghostrunner
To the Moon
Godfall
Wolf Youngblood

It’s incredible that it’s a launch game really. It’s been a long time that a launch game showcased what the system can do. I had the DF video on my Tv in 4K. Some people came by a few minutes in and they were amazed.
Imagine what they’ll be able to do with their second game this gen....
The Amazing Spider-Man;)

The question is, if you have more than double the time to render every frame in spiderman without RT, what could they have pushed if the game wasn't cross gen? I'm still on the bus of RT it's not worth it unless used sparsely but since here they are using it to pimp a cross gen game, i would take it over the performance mode.

I’m forever confounded why they don’t build in frame interpolation into the game engines. Yes, input latency won’t be as crisp as real 60fps, but shit would look glorious with all the bells and whistles at faux 60.

Should be possible at 1440p I'd have thought? More than a 50% reduction in resolution, after all.
Ray tracing is already rendered at a much lower resolution so the benefit of running a game at a lower resolution doesn’t scale to Ray tracing as well unless the quality is completely butchered.

It’s looking possible in 1080p though.

Idk why you would come here completely unprompted to whine at everyone because of some past resentment? Most of us here have no clue what you’re going on about.

That said, no. Not all implementations of RT are equally impressive. Perhaps to you, on a technical level. But an open world game where you climb and jump around buildings from all sorts of angles it is certainly more visually striking than most other games. Most of the rt effects on something like ghostrunner are barely noticeable because most lighting is prebaked already

I honestly thought he was a kid, or an edgy teenager at most, because I didn’t understand how a grown man keeps constantly saying that PC looks better. We all know that, but he can’t help himself.

My best friend’s little sister was like that when I was growing up. Constantly trying to one up you for some reason. It is an old hate now. You just have to ignore folks like that.

On console for ps5 yes, again you jump into a ps5 thread and wave the PC warrior banner...again.

I doubt we will see native 4k30 with resolution / draw distance and effects from 3rd party on console or a while is what I meant.

Is Watchdogs not 1440p ? And yes textures, animations and everything else brings down the quality....on both consoles.

What other games are there on CONSOLE ?

In Spiderman it's literally everywhere except really rough surfaces.

And that will be the compromise. Rougher surfaces are more expensive to reflect on but because they don't reflect as clearly you could probably use alternative techniques for them, or put more puddles on them to reflect off e.g. pavement.

On console budget it looks shit as too many compromises.

Look at Watchdogs on console, too many compromises............. end.

I don't know if Controls Raytracing looks better than what's in Spiderman. But Spiderman is doing a great job with the reflections. It'd impressive how many surfaces it's available on.

Controls raytracing is the true benchmark of Raytracing.

If you turn on RT debris everything that you break apart (and alot can be broken apart) will have reflections and correct lighting/shadows......literally everything, literally all the small little parts of concrete that are broken apart.....all the wood thats splintered off, everything will be correctly lit, shadowed and reflected.
Its a marvel that really cant be captured till you sit in an area and just fuck everything up and you notice everything is embedded in the scene correctly.....once you turn it off then you start to notice that man debris in video games is really shit.

Spiderman makes cutbacks to hit target frames....its still amazing.....but Control doesnt give a fuck, at full wormage pretty much no GPU can stable 4K60 without using DLSS trickery.
Controls max settings were not meant for this generation of GPUs. Remedy are madmen for think RTX 20s were ready for that shit.

Console players, can we please finally agree that raytracing is not a waste?

Thanks.

Honestly speaking, it was mostly PC gamers, the majority of them, who fought against RT back in 2018+. Console gamers are just starting to talk about it recently ;)

Since 1st announcement of RTX, I've been so amazed of RT, and saying that it's bad is absolute insanity. Saying it's a waste? Probably if you're losing too much FPS and your system can't give you at least stable 30fps.

Mid-gen console refreshes should boost RT even more with 60fps.
