The official Zen 3 with Ryzen 5000 reveal thread

If you upgrade go for 8 cores, even while what black stride is correct i wouldn't gamble on it. Could very well see 8 core optimation on PC coming forwards which u will miss out on then.

No. I’m gonna go with 6 (powerful cores mind you!) and ain’t nobody stopping me. I’m gonna invest the saved money and then use it for an upgrade if and when the 6 core will stop being good enough.

PS4 and Xbox One also used 8 core CPUs and that didn’t translate to any advantage for 8 core CPUs on the PC side.

Bottom line is that most of the time you will be GPU limited at 1440p and beyond, and to the extent that CPU makes a difference, single-threaded performance will be the key factor.

That's because the Jaguar was anemic and not threaded, so even utilizing all the cores that it did, desktop parts ran circles in just threading and less cores.

Things will more than likely be different since it will be Zen 2 w/ threading across the board.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I feel like I’ve been reading armchair experts saying “with consoles now going multi core, more and more games will be optimized for multi core CPUs” for like 15 years now. Fact remains that 6 or even 4 cores is more than enough for gaming, and that single threaded performance makes a far greater difference than # cores. And at 1440p + you are almost entirely GPU bound anyway.

6 is usually “enough” due to not all 8 cores being utilized last gen. 1 to 2 were reserved for OS functions. Now that they are able to get them down to threads being used for console OS functions, things may change. We shall see how it goes.

There is also a lowest common denominator thing on the PC which will make for not all of them being utilized fully, but I will not be surprised that a few years in there will be a greater benefit for more cores than before, due to the nature of what these boxes will contain. Again, we shall see, and hopefully it does. Let’s push forward, not stagnate.

Hey, I’ve got an 8 core CPU right now (3700X). Nothing would make me happier than seeing games that really take full advantage of all that processing power. Hell, I’d love to see games that make me wish for a 12 or 16 core CPU because of all the amazing things they do with it.

But I’m not a game dev. Just a gamer. And I’m squarely in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp WRT the need for more than 6 cores.

Same. I feel like I've been hearing about multicore benefits for over a decade now but we've not really realized any of it. I'll believe it when I see it.

Got my motherboard in today. Asus B550-i. Now the only remaining Dragon Ball left is the CPU tomorrow.

Looking for 5800x vs 3900xt gaming comparisons at 4k, going to get a pre-order in for 5800x but might end up cancelling it.

5600X >>> 10900K

Intel done in gaming.

This review is trash. Maybe the overall outcome is fine. But why is the 5600x so often faster then the 5800x? Heck even the 3600x is sometimes faster then the 5800x. Furthermore is his 10900k OC CLEARLY not stable if your OC yields worse performance then stock. And why the fuck a 3070???

edit: it seems the oc is try to simulate the 10900k performance at 5Ghz? Cause some Cores on Ryzen run at 5Ghz? But then again, its not done cleanly. Ah whatever. I wait for GN...

Going from ryzen 1200 to ryzen 5600x will be nice :)
Hopefully my motherboard (msi b450 gaming plus) will not have issues next year when bios update comes out.

Happy Zen 3 day beautiful people.

I'll be DDOS'ing Scan.co.uk at 2pm. Hopefully score myself a 5900X to be delivered tomorrow.

Good luck! :)

Well there is probably 100 people here at micro center already. Hope I get one.
Oh, wow. People thought it would be a big launch but no one expects it to be like the 3080.
