Doesn't really matter if it's a month out or at launch. Games without?
We are struggling to see your point. What matters how many games runs below 1440p? If it is able to do 1440p in certain games, it already "justifies" the marketing piece that's constantly being show here. Just as it did for Switch, for PS4 and PS4 Pro and pretty much any console ever.

I think it is mostly RAM in XSS that is the limit. Still it is nice and small so I don't care. I don't have TV anyway.

Ps4 pro was marketed as a 4k machine so whats your point?

Xbox fans on here pointed it out whenever Sony put out those advertisements. MS did advertise XsS are a 1440p console and now they're claiming it was never advertised as a 1440p console when the evidence is right there.

How about actually quoting these messages from Xbox fans ? I can't find them.

XsS was advertised as a 1440p console, and people understood perfectly well what it meant.

I am disappointed with the series s it seems like that the ram size and bandwidth are the bottlenecks.

There is 2.25 times the amount of pixels found in 1440p in respect to 4k and 4 times the amount for 1080p in respect to 4k. The series s is 3 times weaker than the Series X so theoretically it should be able to run the same games a bit higher than 1080p but a little lower than 1440p.

....this was all known. For months it's been made clear that 1080p-1440 is the most you'll get out of the S. This will be the case for the next 7 yrs...

Here we have another example of Microsoft promising something, then delivering something less impressive.

How hard was it to say 1080p - 1440p console, instead of deceiving?

Underpromise (or just promise) and overdeliver. As long as Microsoft keeps doing the opposite, their PR will constantly be scrambling to put out fires.

I'm not going to go and look back bring up quotes. You can see some on this thread and in the threads about XsS or even on Twitter. They're saying it's designed for 1080p - 1440p when it was just 1440p when advertising their console.

"Series S is designed to deliver the same great next gen experience at 1440p"

Xbox Series S delivers approximately 3x the GPU performance of Xbox One and was designed to play games at 1440p at 60 frames per second, with support for up to 120fps.

The point is that it was advertised as 1440p, not 1080p-1440p console as many others are alluding to. Now there have been guys from Xbox who said 1080p-1440p, but it's clear that their focus was 1440p.

Because they are most likely betting on situation that there is not 1440p to my knowledge, so that extra res, would be to waste. I mean downsampling exist, but how many people would noticed.

What's the point of running at 1440p though? You either have a Series X for your 4k TV, or Series S for your 1080p set

How come you arent critiquing everything else in the adverts?

All-digital gaming experience

1440P at up to 120FPS

4K upscaling for games

DirectX Raytracing

Variable Rate Shading

Variable Refresh Rate

Every game that doesnt fully meet those specs should be bitched about to death right?
Or is there critical thinking sometimes, then being completely dumb as fuck for other points?

The amount of gaslighting is hilarious. These people trying hold MSFT task won't even mention the same shit from Sony's side, and I guarantee we'll see similar instances of misleading advertisement. Is DForce DForce or -Arcadia- -Arcadia- just as upset at not every game on the PS5/Series X also not supporting ray tracing? Or 120fps? Or 8k?

All-digital gaming experience - Obvious because there's no disc drive. This is not misleading because there is NO DISC DRIVE.

At 1440p. I jus went over there.

Up to 120fps. "Up to" is the point here. IT doesn't say "at 120fps" it says the console is designed "up to 120p" which many people know that it supports 120fps.

4K upscaling for games. it upscales ALL GAMES. This is not false advertising because even the Xbox One S upscaled games. It's generally how TVs and consoles with 4K output works.

Other three are merely features that it supports.

Before you start name calling, at least read what you post first.

False point of comparison.

Series X and PS5 marketing materials have been careful to emphasize 120 FPS isn’t on everything, 4K is an expected target, and likewise for ray tracing.

This was BS. Similar to what I understand (second-hand) they did with the Xbox One S, marked the box as 4K with no further explanation that it was just for movies.

Don’t assume everyone you meet is a console warrior. I know Gaming Side hasn’t been the best with this, this year (entirely down to the posters who have chosen that direction), but nonetheless. It makes productive criticism quite difficult when we immediately start throwing up flags.

For reference, I’m buying the Series X this year, and probably not a PS5 until it comes back in stock, or I can afford it.

I've said it before, but is this your first time buying a next-gen console on release? Or any video-game tech in general? This shit is literally only a surprise to people that don't pay attention.

Is this your first time thinking?

Constant, deceptive marketing practices, upended within the week, are not a good idea for Microsoft, and have been backfiring on them for the entire year. I am concerned, as yes, a fan. I would like them to knock it off.

We can point to historical examples like the PS3 and 360 being marketed as HD consoles, but two differences. We’ve been moving away from that in the console space for a while, and yesterday’s Sony and Microsoft hadn’t just spent the entire year telling whoppers that were immediately proven wrong, and painting the new console(s) in a worse and worse light.

Is 1440p something people want? Because the Ps5 doesn't have it.

I'd assume its not important and thus the XSS shouldn't need it either.

Right?

My position is that by telling a truth somewhere in the realm of reality, and delivering on it, instead of the opposite, Microsoft would be having PR successes instead of blunders.

Take this. Instead of discussing how interesting a $300 1080 console is, the entire news cycle is how Microsoft is vastly underperforming 1440p.

Setting the right expectations can be the key differentiator between positivity and negativity for your product.

I'm sure people completely ignored Jim Ryan with his "we believe in generations" speech before it was announced that Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man: MM would both appear on PlayStation 4.

I have no problem pointing out when they mislead people, but people in here aren't doing the same. When Sony advertised PS4 as a 4K console, I thought it was misleading. "Dynamic 4K" is way more accurate and that's why they changed it.

Say you "support" features such as Ray Tracing, 120fps or 8K doesn't mean all games will "support these features". Comparing a list of supported features versus advertising a console as a 1440p gaming console can be misleading.

I think next gen performance requires leveraging next gen technology. I just don't think enhanced current gens are good indicator of that. Unfortunately there are not next gen 1st party games at launch so XB is stuck with 3rd party games. But 3rd party games next gen exclusive at launch will likely still need time to get proficient with the new GDK. I feel the first year will be a struggle for the XB.

Right?

Why is so much of the content on this part of the board constant console clap-backs like this, versus anything of substance?

If we come in with the expectation of nothing but console wars, that’s all we’ll get, versus a place that could actually be fun and interesting to read.

Why would you assume that?

If the XSS could deliver 1440p as MS said it could it would have made it ideal for people with 1440p monitors.

This isn't a console clap back. I'm getting both consoles.

If Sony thought 1440 not important enough to support, why is it a big deal if XSS games are coming out and not hitting that target either? Maybe MS decided supporting 1440 on the XSS wasn't as important as hitting a FPS target?

It... kinda is.

Entirely different concepts, though, on topic. Sony not supporting native output for 1440p monitors is different than not supporting the 1440p resolution altogether. Many games will likely hit that (Ratchet), but do an internal upscale to 4K before outputting to the TV.

As such, people would also like XSS to do the same. To game at $300 and still get an image that upscales beautifully to most 4K TVs. Microsoft led people to believe that might be the case.

I personally think that gaming in next-gen at 1080p for $300 is still quite the deal.

So, the One X should be able to do 1440p/60fps, riiight?

nope, CPU, don't forget that absolutely dogshit Jaguar cores that crippled current gen games like crazy

What they need is M&K support for consoles. Xbox players are at a huge disadvantage.

I am almost 100% certain it already has Mouse and Keyboard support and had it for at least since winter

Never really tried this, mainly because I found performance too inconsistent.

Will certainly give it a bash again with some mates, now it's 4k60, and they've had a few years to add content etc!

Gamepass to the rescue, again!

Removed what option? 4K/30? Xbox One X and the Series S are two different levels of machines. The One X has 50% more GPU power. Even with the architecture advantages the S is at a disadvantage in ways.

Me throwing a 10900K and a Gen 4 SSD into my 3600/RX580 machine doesn’t give me the ability to punch above my GPUs weight.

I was under the assumption the Series S was more powerful than the X - it costs more, right?

Ms says up to 1440p for Seris S . They never said all games are guaranteed to run at 1440p all the time.

Series S DDR6 ram, SSD, RDNA 2 , zen 2 3.6 cpu . One X isn't even in the ball park.

I quoted MS where they said 1440p, not up to 1440p.

My problem is that people are saying they were advertising it as 1080p-1440p when they're plastering their advisement as 1440p.

Still remains to be seen how many games are 1440p at launch.

No, what we have here are people reading into things what they want to read to back up a narrative about a console that they probably have little to no intention of buying anyway.
The Series S had been advertised as a machine capable of displaying a 1440 resolution. That fact still stands even some games won't hit it.

It's basic advertising, everyone does it when hawking a product.
If people are really this naive, they have some real surprises waiting for them involving things far more important than video games.

It's like another poster mentioned earlier in this thread, some of these replies read like they have come from people who are experiencing a console release for the first time in their lives.

So series S *is* more powerful than One X? If so why not have the 4K 30 option?

Your points have been addressed. If you’re going to quote me, at least have the courtesy to read the content as well.

Series S had the advantage everywhere besides pure GPU power. One X launched @ $500 with a 6TF GPU. Series S @ $300 with a 4TF GPU however it’s a newer more efficient architecture which makes up some of the difference. Problem is resolution is basically all GPU based.

How did this game run on the X1? Is the XSS running the game better than the X1? People should not be expecting top tier performance from the XSS it should always be compared to the X1.

Was the Xbox one x version running same textures as pc version etc? I was kind of hoping to see (pc ultra settings) for series x but maybe it already is on Xbox one x?
