The key optimisations for your next-gen Sea of Thieves experience Xbox Series X | Xbox Series S

I am disappointed with the series s it seems like that the ram size and bandwidth are the bottlenecks.

There is 2.25 times the amount of pixels found in 1440p in respect to 4k and 4 times the amount for 1080p in respect to 4k. The series s is 3 times weaker than the Series X so theoretically it should be able to run the same games a bit higher than 1080p but a little lower than 1440p.

This game looks ridiculous on PC at high frame rates, so it's nice to see that Series X will be supported in that manner. That being said....I just wish I knew how to play this goddamn thing. Like, I feel like I should love it, I feel like it's a well made game, but I just feel like I don't get it. Regardless, I'll try to jump in again on that Series X I guess.

Yeah, the game is really pretty, but when I tried to play I stayed hours there literally looking for what to do. Didn't manage to do anything tbh.

If you disappointed then don't buy it.

MS said its 1080p-1440p machine with frame rate upto 60 and 120fps. Not guaranteed 1440p60fps in every game machine.

Is seriesX giving you 4k60 in every game? No. So Series S will not give 1440p60 in every game.

Same. I feel like they were trying so hard to "not hold hands" that it seemed like there was no clear indicator as to what the fuck my goal should really be lol. I just kind of sailed around for a bit and checked out islands that seemed cool, but there was nothing really there other than some random skeletons and shit.

Already paid for it, too late now. but it will be a gamepass machine so all is well.

Big as an ocean deep as a puddle, especially alone. With friends it's the same but more fun, but then again what game isn't fun with a bunch of friends?
I feel like I'll never really get the full experience of this game because I don't play multiplayer games so I don't have a group of friends to play with. Feel like that's kind of necessary with this one :/

What is it on the Xbox One X?

We'll take a closer look at the technical make-up of Sea of Thieves a little later on, but let's get the rendering basics out of the way first. After lacking support throughout the entire beta run, Xbox One X functionality is baked into the final code, delivering a full 4K pixel count. Interestingly, the standard Xbox delivers 900p in its final form - a mere 17.4 per cent of the X's rendering throughput, delivering a blurrier output than the pristine presentation of the enhanced console. It's not an unattractive game on the standard Xbox by any means, but X is the place to be for the best experience.

looks like to be 4k30

Wait X1X is running this in 4K30....I mean wonder what resolution would it do with 60FPS...like just an engine without logic, because that piece of shit Jaguar probably could not run it at 60FPS...

Because they literally advertised it as a 1440 machine:

Literally could say the same thing about ANY of the next-gen consoles, doesn't mean EVERY game will be that. The PS4 was touted at a 1080p/60fps machine too before it's release. Didn't work out that way. Even still, I literally wrote 1080p/1440p machine, so I'm unsure what point you are driving at by quoting me.

It's like this is some of ya'lls first time being part of a new-generation machine. It's always been like this. Always, since n64/PS1 days. Even been the same type of thing in the PC space. Some of ya'll need to get a grip on reality and set your expectations to what the hardware inside is actually capable of. Not what it's potentially capable of.

No. I’ll be critical of false advertising with Msft the same way I would be with Sony. If your console can’t handle everything at 1440, then don’t advertise it as such when people are taking decisions on whether to pre order or not.

It’s lying. It’s a 1080p console. And then with next gen games that appears to be dynamic.

You are in for a bad generation of gaming if that's your mindset. Have fun with that.

You remind me of the people that would by a mid-tier graphics card, PUMP EVERY setting to max and then be mad when you get terrible performance. Completely disregarding the actual hardware, and the tendency of just about EVERY company falsely promoting bullshit numbers that they can skate by on technicalities.

I honestly think that developers will often optimise for 1080p.
I said from the start, when the Series S was stilk just leaked and not announced, a 1440p system is pretty useless... almost noone who buys this will use it on a 1440p screen. 1080p is the more sensical target.

the game will most likely also run at max PC settings which is also a step up from current gen.

So I will look out and expect to see a critical comment from you in every PS5 thread about a game that doesn't reach 4k... ok? good!
see you there!

4k/60fps is fantastic, the game already looks and feels amazing

Haven't seen your critical posts about the PS5 advertising 8k on the box. Or how about Jim "I believe in generations" Ryan? Haven't seen you mention games running at sub-720p on the "720p handheld" Switch Lite. Seems your "concern" manifests itself only for Xbox, I wonder why?

You should also be bitching about the game not having Direct X Raytracing?
Because the add also says the console will have Direct X Raytracing right?

Think critically....if these are the complaints you have maybe you need more things to worry about.

I guess so, yes?

I’m not that bothered. I’m not buying one. I just don’t like a product being marketed as firmly one thing when it so obviously is another 🤷🏻

...that goes for everything.

Series S is clearly a compromised design to reach 299$ without sending stockholders into overdrive.

it better sell as well as MS hopes it will because it will drag itself throughout the years.

Stop the concern trolling. From the moment it was rumored we expected the Series S to be a 1080p machine. If you're disappointed in it, then it's not targeted for you.

Why don't you clowns get this?

Nobody like's being lied to, but this is video-game hardware business. They will squeak by on technicalities. Again, it's been like this forever, so unless this is your first time participating in a generational upgrade, you've just been keeping your head in the sand and ignoring ALL the bullshit marketed from the SNES era and up.

Nvidia's last keynote is prime example with them adverstising certain benchmarks and scenarios were it could be fudged that they techincally double previous performance, or can technically play games at 4k Max(as long as DLSS is on) but in practical ACTUAL application it never pans out that way.

So they have removed that option from the Series S?
Removed what option? 4K/30? Xbox One X and the Series S are two different levels of machines. The One X has 50% more GPU power. Even with the architecture advantages the S is at a disadvantage in ways.

Me throwing a 10900K and a Gen 4 SSD into my 3600/RX580 machine doesn’t give me the ability to punch above my GPUs weight.

I pre ordered and paid for one directly from microsoft, why am i being accused of trolling now ?

Yes i admit it will not be my main gaming machine but I paid my hard earned money for it, and if microsoft who advertised it as a 1440p machine can't get its' own first party to achieve such a target when it is running 4k60 on its bigger brother. Cant i be disappointed?

And the attitude is not needed.

And you'll get that machine, and I'm sure some, maybe even most games may scale to or actually be 1440p. You plan on playing that machine on your 1440p TV? You won't get every game at the resolution/framerates it's "technically" capable of, not even on Series X or PS5. 360/PS3 were advertised as 720p/1080p machines and we got TONS of titles that barely qualified as HD or well below that, hell even first part titles were putting out less than 720p resolutions. Why all of a sudden advertising standards become a major concern is more strange than the people surprised that the machine can't do more than the hardware actually can do.

How many games announced for Series S are 1440p native? How many are not?

So, every Series X game must run at 4K? 1440p is the max resolution of the S.

At launch?

1440p/60fps with RT on Series S, as an example.

Gears Tactics and The Falconeer also both run at 1440p

It's still a 1080p box, but it can run up to 1440p and will in many situations.

You're guess is as good as mine. Hell, probably better. Maybe because I pay attention to the hardware and not the nice, pretty words of MSFT/Sony that I don't care about the advertisements, but if you've been in the PC hardware space for a while, you know exactly what to expect from these consoles, so I'm not surprised when the hardware is doing exactly what the hardware is capable of.

Doesn't really matter if it's a month out or at launch. Games without?

They are all "real" specs because its about what the hardware is capable of. Not what every software developer chooses to actualize!

Some seriously obtuse takes in this thread.

I mean there's more examples, like Halo MCC, Ori 2 and FH4. Codemasters claimed Dirt 5 would run at 1440p too, but it might be dynamic idk. I just quoted you a few examples off the top of my head.

Similarly, this game, Watch Dogs Legion, Fortnite, Yakuza 7, PUBG and Gears 5 don't hit 1440p

The falconeer runs at 1800 p on Series S.

Forgot about that, though obviously that 1080p/120fps mode is probably irresistible for Series S owners who have a compatible TV
