Physics simulation might become way better soon

Really hoping someone takes the utter power of the new consoles, and goes all out on physics. After being stuck with roughly the same or worse CPU performance since 2005 (even PC fans are held back by console-centric design), I can’t imagine how amazing that could be.

They better. One of the biggest immersion-breaking things for me personally is the non-interactivity with the objects, environment and inaccurate physics simulation. Bland, empty and lifeless worlds.

These things, IMO, have largely remained the same since the PS3/X360 and throughout current-gen era (thanks Jaguar).

But the improvement in the quality of graphics though is staggering when you look at the difference between RDR1 on PS3 for e.g. to RDR2 on PS4 - it's truly mind-blowing when you look at the huge jump in lighting quality, PBR materials, shaders, not to mention animations and the likes.

RDR1 to 2 in terms of visuals was a true next-gen jump. But when it came to world interactivity, AI and NPCs - they still felt dumb and last-gen. While there were some improvements but not as huge as we got in the graphics department.

It is here where I hope devs focus on when developing their PS5/XSX games from the ground up and greatly improve these things, add more interactivity, complex physics & increase NPC density.

Physics simulation was way better than now years ago yet. Half Life 2, FEAR, GTA 4, Max Payne 3, Red Faction: Guerilla, Mafia 2, Stranglehold, Crysis, Flat-Out... we had lot of awesome examples of good integration of physics in games, but this gen has been pretty disappointing in this field imho. Really hope next gen will deliver, but special mention to Control for awesome integration of physics and destruction, insanely good, I suggest it to everyone that like this kind of interactivity in games.

Impressive tech. Can’t wait til this (or similar) is a widely used middle ware.
As much as I want full destructible environments, I know we are a couple gen away and likely won’t make major progress until we are done chasing “traditional” visual fidelity. (Which I hope is post 8k.... please no more!!)

Physics is the main thing to make better games, graphics don't really improve a game besides making it prettier, but this is games not movies so focusing in physics should be their priority.

They should, we have the 2 longest gen of physics stagnation due to CPU bottlenecking, actually, FPS and physics will be the actual advancements we never had before due to finally having decent dedicated CPU

Now that is really awesome stuff. The key factor is the drop in processing time I truly believe we could seem some effects of this in the new gen if it's so much less expensive than previous methods. If the only benefit we see from this new method is no more clipping then I will be a happy gamer!

My man. First time I saw ragdoll was in the Hitman 2 demo on PS2 when I shot a maid and she did a cartwheel down the stairs. I still remember the hearty laugh I had. I was CRYING. It was then that I realized I really loved ragdoll. I mean, REALLY loved it. I've always been so excited to interact with the next physics engine, so I'm ready and waiting!

This video was amazing, and I'm really excited to see what is done in the coming years.

I live for this stuff, can we make a topic every day about physics in games?!

This stuff make rtx looks like child tech.

Games with euphoria engines are the king of good\hilarious ragdoll, sometimes i just fuck with the npcs in rdr2 just to see how good are the interaction between them and the scenery.
