"Cyberpunk 2077 needs 4-5 months of work to be polished and ready" Reddit undercover CDPR dev vetted by Jason Schreier

I’m in the ‘delay it until it’s done’ camp too. Don’t understand why people get worked up about delays - they are generally to make things better?

This game is potentially too good to risk fucking it up at this point.

This is a game people will wait for. I don't get trying to rush it out. If anything there is an added incentive to delay it a bit to maybe ship it with the next-gen versions.

Ever game dev I’ve ever heard said that they felt like they needed more time for the game and at some point you just have to put it out.

Do games that go Gold do this regularly? Or is this a rare instance?
These days "going gold" really means "passing cert," ratehr than "final code." Meaning they have the game in a state that is good enough to pass the MS and Sony QA process, meaning the game runs fine without significant crashing. But Day One patches mean they can keep working up to the minute they launch.

Dunno what's funnier.

The push for a fucked up release, or the amount of people sticking their fingers in their ears because Schreier confirmed things.

Don't need Jason's input to see that shit is not going well over there.
"Fucked up" is a stretch here. "Great but not a masterpiece," and "not bad technically" is what he said.

My thinking as well. This is a highly anticipated game from an acclaimed studio; It’s not like players will boycott it if it releases by mid 2021.

A lot of people are blaming this on bad management etc, but you're all missing a pretty critical part of the picture: CDPR made the mistake of going public to raise funds. They could have done it so many other ways. By going public, they are now under pressure to deliver consistent results to shareholders...and this is why you'll see it pushed out before its ready.

CDPR is willing to butcher the whole game to bare bones just to make those big bucks on base versions of the PS4 and XB1. all those people who said CDPR is basically becoming Rockstar 2.0 were spot on. Just look at their priorities, fuck next gen because catering to underpowered hardware is where the money is at. I may joke around about Sony fanboys being rapid but it's undeniable now, Sony is the only game publisher that is pushing for next gen gaming unlike most of these twats who still care about MUH install base.

They should've delayed the damn thing by a whole year (april 2021) and release a polished product - just like Rockstar did with RDR2 by moving the game from Fall 2017 to October 2018.
Yup unfortunately this should be the case. Had they announced in April they needed another year to finish the game most people would of accepted it and moved on pretty quickly. And RDR2 has to be one of the most polished games this generation considering its massive scope. Things like these does leave an impression on whoever plays it and I’m sure CDPR knows it’s reputation is on the line here. No way they want to be compared to Bethesda’s buggy launch titles or mass effect andromeda. I’m sure the pressure is immense and now they know what it’s like to be in the big leagues with a ton of pressure.

I've been saying this for 2 years. If you actually remember what it was like when The Witcher 3 came out, it was pretty much exactly the same thing.

I keep seeing this in regards to Witcher 3, so obviously there’s merit to it.

I bought It on PC at launch and put over 100+ hours into just the base game. I had Little to no issues. Perhaps the console launch sucked?

Maybe so. I did play on PS4. It's not like it was bad, or I felt ripped off. It worked mostly fine, but even basic stuff like moving around corners was just not feeling super great. They polished the game and put out lots of patches for months, and then put out DLC. That's pretty much what'll happen here. I'm sure the game works fine, but is the melee combat as good as it could be? Maybe not.

Witcher 3 was far from "completely broken" at release.

....oh you are serious?

but hey, not completely broken?

Whats sad, is all the bugs listed happened to me, some of them YEARS after patches. I didn't even know a glitch was happening with the sound until I saw a dialog prompt as if someone was suppose to be speaking or something. I restart the save and a fucking whole ass conversation was going on... if I just continued, I would have NEVER known multiple parts of the game on some huge key elements. Now I'm not sure if I hate the story because its shit or if the good parts were just glitched out and never heard..

Vivaldi is one of my favorite characters in the Witcher series, I was sooooo hype to see him in the 3rd game and it was completely ruined in Witcher 3. The fucking man had no face, he just started talking and I was looking around and then you are locked into the dialog, its showing where a person SHOULD BE, but all I see are hands moving and shit! Not completely broken though huh? This game had so many issues, it started to show just how fucking bias the community REALLY was, you guys had no issue talking shit about AC Unity's issues with peoples faces missing and flying in the air etc, yet the same things happened in Witcher 3 and "not completely broken"? It tells me the community as a whole DOESN'T want to be honest about issues in games, they only want to bring them up in games they dislike or publishers they dislike. Suddenly when its happening to CDPR, its "not completely broken". So missing faces, corrupted game saves, horses not crossing the bridge and people randomly flying and shit is now normal in a game suddenly? That tune changed fast as fuck when Witcher 3 launched.

So lets clear this up folks....BOTH AC Unity and Witcher 3 where broken as shit at launch and had no business releasing in that state. So please don't tell me corrupted game saves, broken quest and missing faces is normal...

How the fuck did it go gold and then pulled back for more work? It's like CDPR and 343 are trying to see who can release a bigger trainwreck.

It would be best if they just ignored PS4, XBOX One and went full into next gen. Push the game back a few months polish it and go on. CDPR has spent a lot of time with Witcher 3 post release to get it right and so I figure more time on just new gen would be best.

Yep lol.

Quite a few are falling over their feet to wank themselves silly at the though of putting the boot in to Jason.
Doesn't take a slide rule to see there is development issues at the studio.

That is not how you build a 100% track record...
And he has one.

Cuckmeister Schreier is on a cruzade. Stay safe out there CDPR, deliver something halfway decent and I'm there with you to dunk on the naysayers. Maybe a month after release to patch a couple of abominations and shit.

Yes, it was completely broken and mainstream media joined in on a conspiracy and overlooked the fact when they reviewed the game. And gamers. Gamers joined in on the conspiracy as well.

Wait a minute...

You're on record, I repeat, you are here on record as saying you'll be buying and playing Cyberpunk 2077 day 1. If you had such a terrible experience with TW3 - "completely broken" - why would you not wait till 2021 to buy it and play it?

Why?

Vivaldi is one of my favorite characters in the Witcher series, I was sooooo hype to see him in the 3rd game and it was completely ruined in Witcher 3. Ah, honesty.

If you had such a terrible experience with TW3 at launch, then why would you buy and play Cyberpunk 2077 "day 1"?

I can take either of those statements seriously separately, but not both, not simultaneously.

Something doesn't add up.

He'll "vet" whoever fits his agenda.

And again, one developer in a team of hundreds usually does not have much visibility on the actual state of the game.
This.

The guy is a snake and he only cares if it fits his agenda. He releases these stories trying to further his personal crusade against crunch.

Pretty much, its sad to see that they don't really seem to have even learned their lesson with that. Usually the second game during a generation is the more polished, solid release and it seems like Witcher 3 wasn't a one off situation, but something fundamentally wrong with either the team or management or both.

Its not normal to have 4 fucking different release dates in 1 year. I don't have an issue with a game being delayed, but something is worrisome when the team or management themselves don't seem to fully understand that. Its as if they have no clue how broken the game is, assume its good, make a release date.....and then are told something is wrong, delay the game and repeat. Something is going on that just doesn't really make sense. Its not that an issue exist, its that the management doesn't seem to have a realistic understanding how long it REALLY takes to correct it and are likely giving a few days for issues that are more like a few MONTHS.

I love how everyone is all “this game is a broken mess likely..” having never played it and going off a botched console launch of a game in 2015.

Perhaps CDPR has a memory... and is OVERLY cautious to avoid that. Maybe it’s far better optimized currently than TW3 was on Xbone at launch or whatever.

We do not know. Anyone who says Cyberpunk is a broken mess on console is factually making it up and then following it up with “yeah but 2015 TW3 doe..”

Fine. Don’t buy it. Simple. I’ll enjoy it day 1 as I did my 100+ hours of TW3 at launch. Wait a year for patches. Not hard folks.

Cyberpunk is not current gen. It's cross-gen.
CDPR even described it as an "almost next-gen" title in their statement.
Maybe that complicates matters?

Think about it while you come up with a reason why you had a terrible experience with TW3 at launch but still plan on buying CP2077 day one.

Possibly.
I reserve judgement for when the game comes out.

Its as if they have no clue how broken the game is,

But you would?
I keep forgetting you've played it already.

assume its good, make a release date.....and then are told something is wrong, delay the game and repeat. Something is going on that just doesn't really make sense. That's certainly possible and plausible.
But alternative explanations exist.

So until evidence surfaces of what's really happening, the rational individual will reserve and withhold judgement.

Of course if one has other motives, one might be tempted to jump to occlusions.

Remember, you said TW3 was "completely broken" at launch and you are planning to buy and play CP2077 "day 1".

That doesn't seem rational to me.

I really believe they are trying to make the best game they can and trying to support all of these different versions and platforms is a lot of work.

I think they are a smaller company trying to compete with the best of the best in the AAA landscape.

Well they fucked themeselves if true. Discs are printing and you want to store them in a werehouse for ? months. Leaks will destroy the game.

The only thing I'm taking out of all this controversy is that this game will be amazing. Might not be perfect at launch but is not like they can continue patching for 5 or 6 months down the road. What's the problem? At least they are giving consumers a choice. Those concerned can wait, nobody is putting a gun against our head to get it on day one. Pretend is coming out in June and get it after all the patches.

I got Witcher 3 for PC at launch and had a blast since day 1. They did improve it over time and those expansions were amazing. Might get burned this time but no biggie, I can stop playing if it's not in a state I can enjoy the game until they patch it. Everyone can do that.

I don't get the criticism over selling to previous gens. Does anybody seriously think a publisher can finance 8 years of development by selling to next gen only without GAAS or anything like that? Seriously, get real. Be happy games like this exist.

Most people here have a huge backlog. It's not like there is nothing else to play for the next 5 or 6 months.

I completed it on both PS4 and Xbox One (the former around 70 hours and the latter around 90), and I never experienced any glitches. I also don't remember many reviews blasting the game for glitches back when I was obsessively going through those at launch. I'm sure plenty of people experienced bugs, but idk about calling the game a buggy mess. CDPR definitely isn't Bethesda in that regard.

That said, CP2077 is definitely a more in-depth game with more moving parts, so I feel like catching everything may end up being an ongoing process. I'll be impressed if CDPR manages to launch it relatively bug free.

Like every big and ambitious open world basically, the polish is never enough.

Rdr2 had disappearing characters in the camp for the first 2-3 chapters, days gone had a lot of glitch and botw had severe framerate problems in both consolles, i can continue all day.

It doens't mean that cd project are not at fault here, it's just nothing new for people who buy a lot of open world games.

Fair, ive played through the entire RDR 2 with broken hdr on ps4 pro.

Thing is why were they releasing all those stupid hype videos showing everybody how great everything looks, all the cool gameplay, cars, etc. If they know their product needs work they should have shut the fuck up, and told their paid promoters to tone down the shilling they were doing on internet forums daily until they get their ducks in order.

Witcher 3 wasn't awful at launch. It got a 90+ on metacritic and was perfectly playable. But it certainly wasn't as polished as it was after 6 months of patches. I expect the same from CP2077

I wouldn’t exactly call this being rushed. The game has been in production for almost a decade.
Except not really. When they released that announcement trailer they hadn't actually done any real production. It bounced around preproduction for a bit, and then full production for maybe a year before being put back on the shelf and then rebooted after Blood and Wine shipped. So it's really only been in full development in its current form for 4.5 years.
