First impressions of NMH1 after about 30 mins of play:

Pros:
  • Seems to run at native resolution (handheld, I haven't played on the TV yet)
  • New camera and non-motion controls are excellent
  • It's a proper port not a rom dump, I don't know if they touched the graphics or whether this game always looked this good but was held back by 480p cause everything is sharp as hell
  • Supports original motion controls (haters be damned)

Cons:
  • Motion controls aren't sensitive enough
  • You can't combine both motion controls and the new control scheme to get the best of both worlds :(
  • Once you're in the open world, frame drops are noticeable, they don't appear to be sharp drops though (so far), but this is the area I have the most doubt about...so I'm curious to see how it holds up

Saw this thread, so I went to the eshop and saw control there and was like "Wait whats going on isn't this like a big deal? Did I miss a direct?" went onto youtube and saw papa nintendo blessed us with a bomb ass mini direct. Onto the more important stuff are these 2 games good? Never played the series. Do they require motion controls?

Haven't watched the 1&2 video yet, are these going to be digital only? I only really buy physical for switch so I can share games with both kids and their switches easier

Oh wait there is no first video its just a screenshot haha I scrolled past it.

Is there blood in this series I can't remember... the video for 3 showed a bunch of confetti spewing out instead of blood?

Never played this series before, but it looks ridiculous in a good way. Is the first one still worth checking out?

NMH3 looks very outdated, even for the Switch.

This is what I've been fearing from this game, and they'll get away with it too, because LE QUIRKY LULZ!!

Seriously quirky games need to be good too, lets not fudge this up just because "you can", show us you know how to make a game.

Seems like the right time for finally playing NMH2. And maybe replay the first one which I did ages ago when it launched :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Now this I was waiting for. But now I'm facing with a dilemma. Should I buy digital versions now, or wait a bit to see if there could be physical versions on horizon. Either way, I can sell my Wii copies now.

First one is great, the sequel is utter dog shit.

Did they fix the vanishing clothing glitch from NMH2?

I don’t even remember the second. I loved the first. Got the second based ok good feedback but for some reason I never played more than a few hours. I can’t remember why I stopped. So long ago. I remember it was praised for not having an open world and being more focused. Not sure if that still holds up as I always liked exploring the world in the first one.

Part of the problem with 2 is that their response to the criticisms of the first game was to rip stuff out without replacing it with anything or to just dumb stuff down.

That's what I remembered too. Everyone said the overworld was empty so they just tore it out. Why not just make it more interesting?

The second one is a lot better.
No generic fetch/farm sidequests preventing you from advancing the story.
It's just the stage and boss after boss.

84 metascore, 88 user score.

It's a great game.

Btw, it's digital only? No physical release planned?

I intended to play No More Heroes just for a few minutes. I bought both of these as soon as I was able.

I ended up playing NMH1 for just over 2 hours. My Switch is currently going "WTF?!?!" since I actually turned it on in months.

I absolutely love the original NMH on the Wii, as in I'm sure I logged in some close to 80-100 hours replaying and collecting shirts and buying stuff. The open world is absolutely barren in comparison to it's contemporaries, let alone today. Yet I'm still compelled to explore and find stuff around it. It's one of Suda's most playable games that he's been involved with and the acting along with self-awareness is superb. If you're a fan of Suda-51 and his... Tarantino-esque style, you must try the original at least. The music will never leave your head once you hear it and it's made me actually laugh at some segments. (Travis's scream of absolute despair after being kicked out of a limo near the beginning makes me lose it every time.)

The sequel is... I don't like it as much since it just seems to be missing something from the original. By all means, play it if you want more NMH as it's certainly playable and enjoyment is within.

I just love how you can feel that these were made by people who love older games. The retro feel is very strong with these games.

I'd prefer physical but hell, it's like 24 bucks for us Canadians and it's worth it alone to have them on a modern system. Controls switch (Hah) quite well to a stick and more conventional styles from the Wii's satisfying moves and janks. (RE4 and the 2 NMH games on the Wii were the best uses of the setup that system offered, in terms of games that weren't shovelware, in my opinion.)

Give these a shot if you want some of the most stylish, hilarious and fascinating games to have graced us in the past decade and a half. They ain't perfect, and flaws abound...

But is just *works*.

The fact that they've had a spinoff game and a third game after this time, is a testiment to the fact that it's quite beloved by those that are able to appreciate it's particular sense of humour and attitude.

NMH3 can't come soon enough, but it's an absolute no brainer to bring the two predecessors beforehand. Fans of old can reacquaint themselves with Travis's insane journey and new fans can see what it's all about.

I really hope NMH3 uses full motion controls like Skyward Sword. NMH1 remaster has already proven traditional controls work fine so that can stay to satisfy the haters, but DAMN this game feels good when you're doing to motion based QTE's and stuff. I know I'm in the minority but I loved the motion controls in the first 2.

It's part of the deal. I mean wanking the the light saber to recharge your battery is not the same when pressing a button.

There are no wrong opinions, except this one. NMH2 is better.

Can it be played without motion controls?
