Xbox Series X|S – Official Next-Gen Walkthrough – Full Demo [4K]

That wasn't good advertising. Pop-ups in Subnautica (last gen game) are terrible and Dirt 5 still has a lot of screen tearing. Game switching is slow and unimpressive for anyone who's had an SSD.

At the end they try to hype old networking hardware in those consoles and a slow, overpriced Seagate drive. Maybe it'll work with soccer mums but nobody else.

I had a lot of snake oil vibes watching it.

Dynamic backgrounds: Cool, but very late to the party.

Quick resume: slower than I thought it would be. But it's cool how you can jump from game to game.

New controller: the share button is a nice addition. Should have been there in 2013. Late to the party again. Improved ergonomics is always good. Hope they improved the the A button.

Mobile app: don't care.

Xbox Store: definitely faster. That's always good. Xbone seemed to struggle with ui performance.

I have it preordered, but honestly not looking forward to it. I thought by now Microsoft would have money hated for cyberpunk to show next gen visuals on a console.

First of all, cool showcase. I like these long-form discovery pieces, with the hosts acting more natural, and just giving us an extended look at something. It’s been great for recent Sony games, and the Nintendo Directs need no introduction.

But Gears 5? More BC? Dirt 5, which you’d swear was the only new game heading to Series X?

Not only is the game lineup weak, but Microsoft insists on making it look weaker at every opportunity. Is Sony’s lockdown so absolute that Microsoft can’t get Epic to showcase Fortnite on the system (I know, but it’s popular off of forums)? CoD? Upcoming games like RE8? Cyberpunk?

I know the content is coming, and we had an around ten billion dollar testament to that fact, a few weeks ago, and launch itself will quickly popularize some of those games (particularly if the best versions are on Series X) but this isn’t selling the Series X to anyone but tech diehards, GamePass fans, and people with a soft spot for Xbox.

most interesting part for me was the dynamic wallpapers. Been wanting that on Xbox forever.

This video is a waste of time. The UI is exactly the same as the Xbox One so we don't need a walkthrough for what we already know how to use. The rest of the time all they talk about is the same marketing stuff they've been talking about for months. Quick Resume, expansion card, game pass, etc. Not a single new thing in this video.
I don’t think this video was intended for the gaf community. This is geared towards the millions of people that don’t follow every new piece of news everyday. So in that sense I think it has accomplished its goal quit well.

Lol. You know, I actually clean forgot about the acquisition of Bethesda and others. That's something to look forward to if future titles from beth and others are going to be exclusive to Xbox and PC. Did they ever confirm anything on that front?

Microsoft has never put a major first party game on PS4 or Switch, outside of existing contractual obligations from a bought developer (like Outer Worlds). It’s unconfirmed, but feels like common sense.

Given how much money they spent, I'm inclined to agree with you. Still would be nice if they clarified though so that we wouldn't have to make assumptions.

That's what I've been saying for a while
So have I for the past few months! But more importantly, Microsoft has been saying this for years. They don't believe in generations and the Xbox Series S/X are NOT next gen consoles in the way that we have been accustomed to for decades now. They are just iterative hardware that is extending the Xbox platform (a la PC and Xbox One X). I've been saying that Microsoft is simply bringing the PC hardware upgrade model to the console market (for better or worse) which is fundamentally different than what we typically see with a "new" console generation.

You can go and build an entire PC from scratch and make it "next gen ready". New motherboard, new CPU, new GPU, new SSD etc...but does that make it next gen? Turn on that PC and guess what....you still see the Win10 start up, you still see the same desktop with the same apps. Load up your game client (Steam, Epic etc) and you see the game games you had and load them up and ....they're the same games just faster and clearer. Any new games that come out aren't made for your custom high end PC hardware so they will be very similar to the games you're used to....just running faster than before. But nobody ever talks about "next gen" games lacking when Intel, AMD, Nvidia release new hardware. Microsoft is entering into uncharted territory in the console space!

THE DUCK

voted poster of the decade by bots
x86 CPU, RDNA2 GPU, GDDR6 RAM, NVME SSD, DirectX API, Windows 10 OS, etc.

These new consoles are PCs in every sense of the word.

Speaking of which, any chance we can get one of these puppies ever running windows? Between the case, ssd, noise level, graphics power level, etc, would make an excellent actual pc for the price.

People need to look at this from a different perspective. Generations are pretty much dead which is good, Series X and also PS5 are more like new "mid-gen refresh" systems.
This is only true at this point for Microsoft and the Xbox. And this is what they have been saying and this is intentional on their end. Xbox Series X/S is essentially the same as the Xbox One X in that they are iterations of the Xbox platform.

However, this is NOT true with the PS5. Sure there are some cross-gen games coming around launch but the system is a complete overhaul of nearly every aspect relative to PS4. The architecture, I/O, SSD, Audio, Controller, UI, services etc are all being changed for the new generation. This will enable developers to create fundamentally new and different experiences than what was possible on PS4. This is NOT the case with Xbox as everything about the Series was designed for consistency with the previous generation (same UI, same controller, no exclusive games etc).

Let's make sure we are clear on this...Sony and Microsoft are NOT approaching next gen in the same way!

I would say no chance outside of a hack, as MS isn't subsidizing these machines so people can get cheap PCs.

Those 3 ad rectangles that deemphasize YOUR OWN content are such a fucking eye sore and need to go, ironically if you‘re OFFLINE you don’t always see them, it’s just blank space there. So logging into LIVE a service you pay for GIVES YOU ADS.

If this were on the homescreen of a cell phone or anything else the company would be laughed out of busines. MS NEEDS to stop this shit. Sony showed their homescreen with no direct ads.

Next gen walkthroughs should not start with last gen games.

I can’t fucking believe this even needs saying.

Let‘s face it, Microsoft have given up on new, fresh generations. I find this a bit sad, really. Drains all excitement and interest.

so this is what finally changed your opinion?

I don’t know man, 60/120fps 4k game play is infinitely more exiting to many folks then sack boy.

1st time I played Destiny 2 on pc and had 60fps it was exciting. Might not be what you are looking for but it’s baslicly like adding a new graphic card to your pc and playing old games better. That’s very interesting to many.

As I've said before. This gen is even missing the "glorified tech demos" like Ryse, DR3, or Kz:sf.

Im waiting a few months before buying anything. Nothing really worthy of dropping $500 on launch.
Those went away when MS and Sony decided to do mid-gen console refreshes and extend the generation.

Now consoles are releasing like any other consumer electronics device where you upgrade not because of content alone, but rather features and functionality. Series X|S and PS5 just have too many quality of life improvements to pass up if you're still working your way through your current gen backlog. Seriously, I can wait on the new content. It's coming and when it does it won't stop.

I got so sick of the loading times on Xbox One, that I suspended gameplay for two weeks until the Series X comes out.

Looks like xbox nailed everything when it comes to quality of life. The only thing missing is that killer first party game had they had that this would of been a Home run launch .

Exactly. We have 2 powerful consoles and nothing to really show for it. Its pretty sad when the biggest next gen game is a 13 year old remake. The next is an overpriced standalone cross gen dlc.
We're in the middle of a global pandemic so i think it would be naive to think that it hasnt affected the gaming industry like it has many other industries. It doesnt much to cause a delay to an industry that already suffers from a major crunch problem.

It really doesn't. I think the other 20 comments before yours, saying the same thing, conveyed it pretty well, lol. I guess I don't really look at it the same way. Gears was improved for the console, its not the same release as One-X. This is the same as the rerelease of Spiderman on the Ps5. There is a campaign DLC for gears slated for December. If they have all the next gen improvements added to it, it won't be much different than the Miles Morales scenario either.

Sorry, I just can’t get excited about the same games that were on previous consoles being the main selling point of a new console.

Just...

So incredibly underwhelming, Gears 5, A new rally game that looks like a last gen game, no first party exclusives and showing off a fucking dynamic theme as if its hot shit when PS4 was doing that on LAUNCH.

It's unbelievable. Quick Resume is hardly 'quick' and the PS5 was doing that much faster.

Right now there's no reason to get a Series X save for backwards compat (which is pretty cool with Auto HDR running), third party games and Gamepass/XCloud which shits all over Sonys PS Plus Collection offering.

I tell you what though, give MS a few years and I really can see the XsX becoming a must own system once it starts putting out it's quality Triple A exclusives. Once you combine those with the tremendous backwards compat offerings and 4K tech, Game Pass etc it'll be a great system.

However for the next 3 years I can't see any reason to get one. I'll be picking one up so I can run third party games on it and Game Pass will save me money, but outside of that PS5 is looking like my main console to be using coming into this next generation. I have a PS5 already pre ordered day 1, and will pick up an XsX once stock for it returns to normal, but I certainly don't feel like I'm missing out on day 1, unlike PS5.

Becuase they want to show off back wards compact, auto hdr and other features they competition is lacking?

We have not moved away from the x86 Platform (or architecture as you will), they're both still using it. All chips, every logic, pretty much everything is build around that architecture (yes, even the I/O). Nothing is being changed here. That is true for both consoles, hence we get BC without any extra hardware on these systems. This is the same BC you got when you bought a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.

It's like comparing a laptop from 2015 with a GTX980m, i7 QuadCore and a slow 500MB/s SSD running Windows 7 to a Laptop from 2020 with a RTX2080, i7 OctaCore and a 5GB/s NVME drive running Windows 10. Both are in essence the exact same thing (even if that GPU and SSD uses completely new tech) because everything is build upon the x86 platform, one just has a new UI and access to new Windows 10 exclusive features like DirectStorage and some exclusive WinStore games.

There are no generations on PC because of this very reason, even though there is a generational leap in performance between PC parts.

Are you excited for Spiderman MM or the remake of Demons Souls? If so, how is MM any different than a next gen Geara DLC?

Oh god. You’re doing this, are you?
Yes, I’m excited for MM because it’s a new, full game. And yes, I’m very excited for Demon’s Souls because it’s a complete, from the ground remake of the first game in a series I love. I’m not that excited for Godfall, but that‘s also coming, as is Ratchet, Astro’s Playroom, and Sackboy. And many others within launch window.

I'm unable to watch the video but you provided me with a nice summary, kind of ironic if you think about it lol

Btw, I actually do consider it a waste of time to watch videos about console UI, but to each their own.

This really feels like an Xbox One Point Five. Where's the next gen, where's the new games? Why does Dirt 5 still have that atrocious screen tearing (not MS's fault obviously, but I really hate it every time I see it)? And they refuse to show a game booting cold, everything was quick resume (which is slower than I would like).

Also a bit funny how they just straight up copied the Share and Remote Play functionality from the PS4.

I know it's early days, but this just doesn't feel next gen at all. It feels like current gen+.

You're the one who said you can't get excited for games that wdre on previous consoles... only to be excited about games that were you know.... on previous consoles, lol. MM is a $40 game in a $70 game world. It is not a full game. The price alone establishes this. I'm not taking away from its relevance or its appeal. I plan on playing it on my Pro. But, I think it is a relevant question. If the Gears DLC takes advantage of the next gen architecture, how is it different from MM in that regard? Length, maybe?

The reality is there are games coming out at launch, including Tactics which got pretty good reviews on PC. Also the Medium is slated to be released Mid-Dec.

This really does not feel next-gen. I hope MS delivers some absolute banger next gen titles.

Really have a hard time wrapping my mind around this way of thinking. The system isn’t even out yet, games ARE actively in develpment. Meantime, all our existing games (4 generations worth) will look and play better than ever.

To me, the CPU and standard SSD’s are ALREADY light years ahead of Jaguar netbook CPU’s. (Both PS5 and Series X).

Lasty, wtf does Sony have that screams “next gen”? A remaster of a PS3 game (demons souls)?

This happens almost every new gen. Cross gen games until developers get their new engines and games ready.

I still don’t get the point of quick resume.

A game would have to be dog rough for me to fill the need to stop and jump into another game, wait until I hate that game, and then go back to the original game, or boot up something else that I also want to pause.

I’ve never had that feeling playing my PS4.

Demon's Souls isn't on any other console. And while MM is, it seems to utilize the PS5 in a much more obviously next gen way than Gears does on XSX.

Different strokes for different folks. Its going to be nice hitting the backlog with upgrades but not in a hurry to drop $500 for any console.

Waiting is the best option for me. Regardless all im playing is Warzone mainly atm.

No, not a remaster of a PS3 game. A full on remake of a PS3 game. There's a big difference.
