Xbox Series X UI’s 1080p Resolution Is Not Final and Might Be Updated Before Launch

If it’s not a receiver that’s possible too. Could be the hdmi cable. Some that aren’t rated high enough have issues. I think 18 gbps is minimum

my bet is still on the auto low latency mode. that would not change resolution but it would always change the image mode and usually when a TV changes image mode the signal specs will be shown, so it would say 4K every time you start a game.

To be quite honest, it's really not on my list of things to care about. If having the UI - which I want to spend as little time interacting with as possible - presented in 4k means less resources for games, or potentially slower interaction, I'd greatly prefer the 1080p interface.

Look, I can appreciate that it’s a next-gen box with 4K plastered all over the marketing so I can understand people being annoyed about it but if it really did come down to it, how many people here would honestly prefer a 4K UI over a 1080p UI but a better performing game? It’s all about the games, as the Sony bros say, so I can’t say the overreacting is warranted.

I just want the console menus instant fast. No fades, no animations, no loading data. Just instant navigate, select, go back to any level.

Don't really get a 4k bonner for a user interface

Actually, I'm fine if they work with 120hz in 1080p

It seems trivial, but the one x UI being 1080p saved 1GB of memory.

Also that's over simplifying, and the ps3 initially used 128MB for OS compared to 360's 32MB. That worked out horribly for the ps3 in multiplat games

Ps5 UI being 4k will not be without cost

PS3 memory reservations were ~50MB IIRC in 2009 (they reduced it a alot) and in game UI was dependent on game output resolution, so for example it was 1080p in MGS4 (and FFXIII, despite games were ~720p) and 720p in most cases.

Ps4 Pro has 4K UI.... this console has 9GB of memory.

Ps4 pro - 8GB gddr5, 1GB ddr3

Be that as it may, it only had 5.5GB for games, and lowering the UI resolution couldve added more. One x had 9gb for games because of the 1080p UI. I seriously don't know why anyone cares about home screen resolution, this is just dumb.

Gotta say, that doesn't sound right with regards to FF13

One x have 12gb of ram so it reserves 3gb
Pro have 8+1, so it reserves 3.5gb

Not huge difference.

Also ps4 records gameplay in ram, dunno if xbox have the feature, never seen xbox irl as nobody owns them

It's amazing that people put more attention to this instead of the PS5 lacking performance saving silicon that allow features like vrs and mesh shaders. Hardware features that will give games better performance. There's also the fact that the ps5 has a tiny amount of storage space.

I don´t get it, thought the XSX had 48GB of vram! due supa-pawaful SFS streamingz-efischensea! Oh noes ..

How does a software company like Microsoft who makes Windows with scalable resolution options not support native resolution of the XBox UI for whatever monitor/tv the device is outputing. This just boggles my mind. Did they hire college interns to code the Xbox UI?

MS has stated that when designing the 1X they were going to implement a 4k UI. After speaking with devs, they decided to keep it at 1080p and allow the devs to use the extra ram that 4k would have taken away.

Seems like a wave of neo account Xbox fanboys lately spreading outdated FUD from 9 months ago.

Funny how they always seem to come at once

We play games not menus ffs

Your just assuming that Sony is using more ram due to the UIs resolution. Maybe they are doing something where the UIs resolution isn't eating up a ton of ram?

We don't know how either system allocates memory to the operating system yet, do we?

True but then again I doubt 4GB or something crazy like that is being taken up due to the UI. I remember reading in an interview that the amount is similar to the PS4s.

Even if ps5 uses the same or less memory for its OS when compared to series X, the latter of which is highly, highly doubtful ; Ps5 could still save memory by using a 1080p UI.

Halo Infinite: Not final and will be updated before release.
1080 UI: Not final and will be updated before launch.
First Party Lineup: Not planned and will be delivered at midpoint in generation (after roughly the amount of time it takes to make a game)
AAA Exlcusives: We don't believe in this, we will recycle old titles, you want that. Until mid-gen, when we will be all in.

... Look, all I'm saying is, the problems become apparent first, then they get spun into a work in progress after.

XB1's UI changed at least a dozen times in its lifetime.
It just changed 3 times in the past 4 months or so alone - its almost always changed for the better and its in a pretty good place atm.
Ive read a couple posters bragging about how its set in stone - on xbox this has never been the case with the ui.
I dont have a problem with it - as long as they keep improving it.

Instead of accusations explain how anything I'm saying is FUD. Post sources that show Sony confirmed the presence of VRS and mesh shaders in the PS5. And remember, geometry shaders are not the same thing.

Agreed. In fact, I find the periodical xbox UI changes a breath of fresh air. I would hate to have the same screen for 7 long years and this is were MS shines.
