Count me in!

It’s a nail biter between StH2 and SoR2!

I have a Sega CDX, but I only own Streets of Rage in that series and Sonic CD in the Sonic series. I have the Sonic collections for OG XB and XB1 though and the Streets of Rage collection for X360/XB1.

Once I finished the list I was hoping for this. I thought it was an easy win for Sonic in the beginning. Looks like it will be down to the wire.

Splatterhouse 3 would go so well for October. It’s a good game, but I think 2 may be a bit better. Shame there’s no Ghouls N’ Ghosts, either. It’s the best game on the Genesis.
I think the third one is more approachable. I do enjoy all 3 though, even the "reboot" one.
I still try to 1CC the first one from time to time.

I like the second one the best as ir has more variety In the environments and gameplay..Splatterhouse 3 went with a beat em up formula and the house itself is a bit bland. At the time, the digitized graphical style for the story scenes they went with was pretty edgy and I recall thinking it looked cool- but they sacrificed a bit of what gave the first two games their charm in the process. I understand why you think the 3rd game is more approachable as 2 can be a bit hard for those that are new to the game. Also, 3 has different endings that add to the replay as the timer is a big factor in getting the best ending.

I had Super Ghouls N Ghosts when I was younger and swore by the damn game until I played the Genesis one years later. Beats the hell out of Super.

I had both games at both the Genesis as well as the SNES launches back in the day. I felt like Super was a graphical showcase game that went more with the agility mechanic (double jump) while scaling back offensive capability significantly. The controls also feel a lot more floaty as well. Of the two, Ghouls N’ Ghosts also has a more dark tone that lends itself to the smaller color palette of the Genesis and the gameplay is fast and snappy.

Super was very well designed - some of the best sprite work of that generation.

I agree with you on that. The sprites in SGnG are like a continuation of Ghosts N’ Goblins and the gameplay in it more closely resembles the first game as well. Ghouls N’ Ghosts is more of a one off kind of game, especially in the sprites.

Loki is more of a warlord/usurper type of ruler rather than the more regal of the other two. You can see it in the beginning stage filled with bodies hanging from trees and crosses as well as the guillotines and pitchfork carrying pigs that will rain vomit down if you are below them. The second stage is a razed village with burning windmills and buildings ablaze. A merciless attack on the kingdom with a peasant mob army of minions.

Excellent idea. Loved the NES and Super NES game clubs, they gave a nice focus to get playing. Maybe start with MD Mini games?

I just got a 3DS and am tempted to get the M2 3D port, even though I already own the game on PC via steam. The 3D effect looks great on the Sonic port, so maybe SoR2 would be worth the $6.

Shit I forgot it was on 3DS as well. Sorry. I'll edit the thread later.

I voted for Sonic, but I can't be mad. I own the soundtrack in a couple different formats. I'll be doing my playthrough as Blaze, but I know the game well enough that I could probably do a book club off the top. What's the plan then, new OT or does this one change form every month?

I was personally going for a new OT but since the people that voted on this one, could ended up missing the new OT I thought it was the best course of action. I saw that they've kept the same thread on the SNES one as well.

A new one every month will make it more clean I suppose. But everything will go by suggestions. I was thinking of a challenge but was not happy with a difficulty based one.
SoR2 on Mania is IMO too hard to make it a challenge. I'm thinking on something people can achieve if they pushed enough. Mania is for the hardcore only.

I think a new thread each month makes the most sense.

Also, what's the plan with the games that don't get chosen? Do they just go on the poll for the next month?

Still up for debate on when we'll see them, but we'll see them again for sure.
Maybe keep the second and third places on next month poll and rotate the forth and fifth places?
Then, we use the 3 free slots with your suggestions. It gives the best performing games another chance to shine, while keeping the rotation interesting and fresh for everyone.

That was my original idea, but please I do welcome any suggestions.

This might sound a bit mad but what about a list of games that released in that month (in North America) so next month is November and I did a quick check on Wikipedia and picked out a few games that released in November on the Genesis.

Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse Nov 1990

Disney's Aladdin, Nov 1993

Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Nov 1993

Earthworm Jim 2, Nov 1995

The Lion King, Nov 1994

Marble Madness, Nov 1991

Venom/Spider-Man:Separation Anxiety, Nov 1995

Zombies Ate My Neighbours, Nov 1993

Sonic 2, Nov 1992

...
Or pick a different genre each month and list popular games from it. RPG month, strategy month, racing month, etc.

Just throwing shit at the wall here.

I love SOR2. But I'm totally spoilt by SOR Remake. Not even SOR4 holds a candle to Remake.

Being able to run and roll in the SOR2 level path, or play it with SOR1 versions of Axel, Blaze and Adam (also able to run and roll) is simply god-tier.

I really wish BomberGames could have brought the "Remake" treatment to Golden Axe as well.

I'm playing through Streets of Rage 2 using Max. This will be my first play through. I made it up to Stage 5 on my first game, so not bad.

I'm playing the Streets of Rage Sega Vintage Collection on the XB1. Anyone down for some online multiplayer?

I'll start with Streets of Rage 1, let's see if I'm still any good at it.
Whatever you do, don't play on hardest while streaming, just because "normal was too easy"....then die at the last boss.

And do the walk of shame, after going through codes to retry the last stage....to finally beating the game, on hardest at least.

Then again, let's try to focus on SoR2, guys. Hopefully I'll be able to playthrough again this weekend.

Nah, I only got to stage 4 on hard and stage 6 on normal. I'm a bit rusty.

I’ll jump in on this, any excuse to play my Mega SG. Which by the way I hooked up to my LG OLED and it just looks and plays amazing.

Is there some way to downvote it when it hits the choices? What an horrible game, I almost sold my Genesis to get a SNES when I saw Sonic pinball in action.

Devil's crush is where it's at!

Pretty based imo

How doers everyone feel about this game after having played SoR4? Although that game is really good, SoR2 remains my favourite of the series. I think my favourite level is stage 2. I love the chaos of the motorbikes, the city lights in the background, and the water effects on the boss:

Despite playing this since the day I got it as a child, and I remember that day, I have never gotten good enough to finish the game in one continue on Mania. Possibly not good enough to finish on Mania at all, I don't remember.

Beat this game a ton on Genesis, then again in that remake game.

Always took Axel, and a few times Max. Never used Blaze or Skate. lol

Axel is too easy though. You can Grand Upper through the game. Also, watching speed runs, it's amazing how people blow through the game doing Max atomic drops. I tried doing it after watching vids and it's harder than you think to coordinate doing them non-stop.

I guess I wasn't paying attention either. Speedrunners know how to glitch patterns out of bosses to do easy moves on them.

Any links to good speed runs?
