Phil Spencer further clarifies the nature of Bethesda exclusivity

The actual reality of this situation is this:

If, over the next few years, Ps5 massively outsells XBox, and is regarded as the market leader, with a massive install base: Bethesda games will be out on Ps5.

If, over the next few years, Xbox and PlayStation maintain a closer sales ratio, and PlayStation is not by far and away the dominant console of this generation: Bethesda games won’t be out on Ps5.

Microsoft have to challenge Sony in the marketplace to ensure exclusivity.

This is the plain, simple old reality in a capitalist economy.

...now, whether Sony will actually want Bethesda games on their platform if they are in that dominant a position is another thing entirely. EDIT: a decision predicated on whether Microsoft charge them a fucking fortune for the privilege!
Wrong. Microsoft would rather sign up 1 person for game pass then sell 500 copies at full price on PS5. It ain't happening chief, even if the Series X and S sell less then Wii U it still aint happening

I wouldnt be surprised if some games come to Switch, in fact i'm 99% certain it was Switch Phil was on about with his 'case by case basis'.

If I had an Xbox I wouldn’t want those games to be held back by the Switch (unless it’s a bogged down port that releases later). Microsoft needs critically acclaimed AAA games to test the limit of the Series X, and Bethesda already has issues with optimization. They don’t want the narrative to go from “Xbox has no games” to “Xbox games run like shit”.

I dont particularly like any suits but I think Spencer is genuine about wanting as many games as accessible as possible to everyone. Of course thats a PHILosophy that runs directly against what his business is trying to do.

I think we'll see the same sort of lag between R* and PC or Sony and PC to bring titles to other platforms with a low barrier of gamepass of you want to play them asap and a smaller number of tier 1 IPs that will remain exclusive

Well if some do go to Switch, i'd expect them way later, and downported, like with Doom and Wolfenstein, etc. I dont actually think Switch will be in the mind when developing the next Doom, Fallout, or Elder Scrolls.

Unsurprising decision. They're trying to lock up as many IP's as possible behind Game Pass, so it makes a lot of sense to have a "Game Pass on your platform or no deal" strategy. You can't create a monopoly by doing the very opposite of it.

So is MS anti-consumer now? And is Phil Spencer officially a liar? Didn't he say they didn't believe in doing video game's business this way?

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh just power your dreams just power your dreams.

In my mind..anything can happens

Look at Mas Effect and Rise of Tomb Raider...

Anything is posible in he future so who knows

Theres always posibilites this game eventually ended up on other system
Those are all third party games. Mass Effect 1 never came out on PlayStation I don't think. And it was very apparent what was going on with RoTR, they thought they'd be competing with Uncharted 4 until Sony pushed that back. And it was announced specifically as a 1 year console exclusive if I'm not mistaken. And even still and again, all 3rd party games.

Though to be honest, I don't care if Xbox games come to PS. I have no issue with it, I'd just like to see my favorite PS games coming to PC/Xbox as well. It's like Sony doesn't want to share their toys but wants to play with everyone else's. I just don't foresee it happening unless Sony and MSFT come to some crazy terms. Sony is such a Japanese company that I can't see them changing too much in their status quo even if it hurts them in the long run.

"We want more people to be able to play games, not fewer people to be able to go play games. "

LOL, why's he so afraid to just admit what everybody already knows? It's silly to keep pussy footing around like this.

Good , I want exclusives in both sides. Sony has great one at this moment, MS could have ones if they revive Bethesda.

This generates competition ans is the key to improvement.

Still a load of nothing. Can't wait to clarify it further part 8. If they wernt coming he would be telling everyone clearly and concisely the only place to play would be on Xbox.

Its so obvious people...Look at the epic vs apple case. Look at MS posturing.

Bethesda games will be on PS5 if GAMEPASS is allowed on PS5. This also means gears of war and Halo will be on PS5 as well.

All MS cares about is gamepass. Starting this gen, their consoles (and pcs) exist simply to drive gamepass adoption until everything goes streaming and hardware is no longer needed.

They have decided to fight a completely different battle...how are yall not seeing this?

This sort of non-denial denial is such douchey bullshit. What are you afraid of? Just tell it like it is.

"Yes, we bought this game studio to make their games exclusive to our platform. Is there a problem with that? Because we're Microsoft and we don't give A FUCK what you think. What you think doesn't matter. Playstation Lives Don't Matter. Goodbye, motherfucker."

Thats the point though, you're talking Starfield, the next Doom, the next Fallout, the next Elder Scrolls, the next Dishonored, the next prey, the next Wolfenstein, etc. This is a big deal that would create a ton of negativity, dodgy media questions and articles etc.
They are about to launch 2 new consoles, they dont want that negativity right now.

It seems like Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Doom are going exclusive next gen

Ah well, I have Gamepass so i dont care

The people who said the service is for AA games might be catching feelings though! 😂😂

All of us Gamepass subscribers can enjoy it all for a pittance! 😊😊

Look, there's never been doubt that they could recoup their investment despite publishing on fewer platforms. The realistic answer is that its going to take longer, but how much longer is entirely down to Xbox and Playstation's respective performance in the years to come.

Obviously Phil's answer is not going to assume the status quo not shifting drastically in MS' favor, he's got to have a positive belief in his business plan going forward but that doesn't make it a certainty.

This is Microsoft we're taking about, they are already an infamous evil corporation. Why they would care about the media is a mystery, they know as well as anyone else how useless gaming media is.

That`s pretty simple.

If PS5 have a similar marketshare as the PS4, those games are almost certain to be multiplat, maybe with time-exclusive for the xbox depending on the xbox consoles numbers.

If the xbox has a lead, it`s the oposite, with those games being exclusive for sure.

When MS buys a studio you still get the game on PC, Xbox, possibly Switch, and many devices with Xcloud.

When Sony buys a studio you get games on Playstation and maaaaaybe PC several years later.

I know which one I prefer. It's a worse deal for gamers if Sony, Amazon, or Google bought Zenimax. Imagine all of their games exclusive to cloud gaming.

Part of me wants Starfield and TES6 to release on all systems just for the threads that would pop up here.

Sony deserves to get the finger by MS for the way they have acted once they tasted success again with the PS4. I doubt MS would be interested in releasing games on the PlayStation so I don't see why this would even be a discussion.

Well, they acted how people want to see them act.

Releasing blockbusters every year. Something Microsoft couldn’t do for almost 2 generations.

They need to look into the mirror and blame themselves for that.

There is absolutely zero evidence here that big games won’t come to PlayStation, despite the echo chamber effect here. It’s all corporate, parsed-language, which is fine and expected. All that’s being said here is that he doesn’t have to put big games on PlayStation to have the deal “make sense”. This is not the same as saying “These games will never come to other platforms”.
