As we wait for official info on GTA 6 another alleged leak has emerged in the meantime. This time it comes courtesy of a post on the GTA 6 Reddit page with alleged pictures of the Grand Theft Auto 6 map emerging.

This was a leak from two years ago featuring the island for GTA VI

This is the leak from yesterday that attempts to provide credence to the original from two years ago

The alleged GTA 6 leaked map shows an island that could be the new Columbia setting which is reportedly in the works at Rockstar HQ. Elsewhere, the alleged leak also claims that GTA 6 could be set in 1985 - with a rumoured 80s setting tallying up with other alleged leaks.

What's interesting about the latest 'leak' is it matches up with another piece of inside information that reportedly leaked years ago. Sharing this on the GTA 6 Reddit one user posted: "The island picture that was posted to the gaming leaks subreddit matches the island from that Vice City 'leaked' map from 2 years ago."

Members of the GTA 6 Reddit page have been debating the veracity of the alleged leak, with some believing it's real and other feeling it's a fake. One posted: "If this leak would be real, this looks like it would be the South American counterpart of the 'Project Americas' leak, matching a similar description to Columbia perhaps."

Another wrote: "The mockup of how it all looks together honestly looks real. Obviously it’s not an in game screenshot of the map or something but just for example RDR2's map was leaked detail for detail back in 2016. It detailed every locations name, the full RDR1 map and even Guarma. All of the text leaks state you traverse the sea by land and air and it’s a huge part of the gameplay so it all makes sense enough to be real. The city’s themselves don’t look too big from a zoom out position but I’m sure actually being at ground level in 3rd or 1st person will make the map feel extensive

"Plus Vice City was Rockstar's smallest map ever, So there wasn’t a whole lot to go off of when concepting what GTA 6's map would be. That’s why there’s a huge portion of the everglades. I think the city’s will be small but have an immense level of detail and care in how it’s crafted. Just like RDR2, everywhere you look is a dream landscape. The city itself might not be massive but it will look very good and the design will be well thought out".

One Redditor added: "The 1985 on one of the pics has had me wondering if there are possibly 2 versions of this map, one in the 80s and one present day."

And one commented: "Omg they all match up. This picture is the South America part of project America and the main island is probably Vice City! This would be incredible! This gives me hype so bad even though it’s just a leak".

Not really feeling the island in South America vibe. Seems too much like Just Cause. Would love it if they actually based in Colombia though.

I think an island is necessary if they go FL again. Otherwise FL itself is too flat and devoid of interesting natural geography. The Everglades would be boring. Just a huge swamp. They need elevation and mountainous areas.

They look like satellite shots, not videogame maps. Also, it's shaped like a foot...

The small island also looks like a foot.... a big foot and a small foot.

I really wish they could come up with a better solution then every major city in the world is on an island.

Not sure they would set this in the 80s if they wanna be able to have guess appearances from other modern GTAs

Drug running 1985 Colombia and Vice City. If you could be the cop or DEA agent in this one, I’d play that.

GTA will always be a satire of America
I can see you starting out in Columbia or possibly flying back and forth between Columbia to Miami.
I'm pretty sure this grand theft auto is heavily inspired by narcos and other cartel shows and movies.

It would make sense in a lot of ways to do something from another time, and use the “it was a different era” argument.

Society is so hypersensitive now Rockstar would probably have protests outside their HQ for not having a transgender lead or something. Satire = offensive.

Bad combo in my opinion, Colombia and 80s. That won’t sell in NA or Europe. Who the fuck cares about Colombia ?

So yeah, it has to be US (no, not even Europe). I also think contemporary is much better choice than past decades. Kids these days, they see history as backward and passé, I think all the nostalgia has been spent through the years. Future could be crazy but very challenging obviously.

Maybe its real. But theres no taking away the fact that gta 6 is generations away.

yea I don't buy that at all.

For all we know that game drops in the next 2 years or so. They could have been working on this literally since 2014

Sander Cohen Sander Cohen So much fiction in GTA, I doubt most will really care. Imagine thinking that someone will not buy the next GTA cause its not in America, as if that ALONE is why the game does well or any game for that matter. A lot goes on in that time period with the cartels, drugs, money laundering, collapsing governments etc. They have a fuck ton of content to work with. Nothing on such a scale has ever happened in the United States like what went on in South America regarding the drug trade. They'd have the ability to tell a story that is very unique that simply can't really be told in America tbh.

Well it's going back and forth between Vice City and a Columbia setting. I bet like a Scarface vibe.

Sounds cool, dunno if the maps are very convincing but I like the concept.

I think the original a leak said that is Miami, vice city, and a Latin America island. And you fly in between.

This.

To tell a story like this, I'd expect multiple cites, countries etc The distance can simply be stylized like how The Crew does it. It could work.

Waiting for a new city on GTA V and then the trailer for GTA 6 feels like its never coming.

We all know that GTA trailer will drop randomly

Nah! They busy updating GTAO

Well the majority of Rockstar doesn't actually do that.

As to why we got Red Dead Redemption 2 while they were updating GTAO.... It would be like saying DICE is "busy updating" Battlefront 2, yet act shocked that BFV was made, released etc. So to my understanding, the majority of those teams don't actually work on that, its a very small portion of those teams that do any of that.

plus they just bought this team, for all we know they bought them for that very purpose, for post launch support or something.

Is it possible that GTA will venture off to satirize another culture other than America (imaging the backlash they’d receive for their incentive portrayal of other cultures), sure. But I’ve said this before and I think it’s worth repeating, In a 2012 interview with the New York Times, Dan Houser revealed that

“GTA is set in a world that is a satire of American media culture.”

If you read the book Jacked by David Kushner, there is an interview in there with the Houser’s where he asks about where they see GTA going (geographically) and they say

"...GTA is a satire on American culture and will continue to be just that..."

Could there be a more firm conclusion than that?

Granted, one of the Houser’s has departed, but there is a reappearing through line with GTA and it is wrapped up in Americanism and the pop culture that comes from it.

Anything is possible, there are however, many obstacles and issues they might encounter in shifting locations from the USA:

  • International culture (take your pick) would be a very different beast, would the team be able to successfully turn their satirical skills to a completely different subject matter?
  • Could they find a theme suitable enough to craft an engaging story that was also cultural commentary?
  • More realistically, they have to struggle with the fact that the vast majority of their audience are American and that satire of American culture resonates much better than that of European or Asian for example.
I understand people would love to see Rockstar tackle other times and places, but it’s not going to happen with their principal IP.

I disagree. First and foremost, he is no longer at Rockstar and the statement was made in 2012

Majority of an audience being in the United States doesn't mean they will not buy GTA, Skyrim is in a fictional fucking place yet moved 30 million plus units. So as an America, please don't just assume I won't buy something if it isn't based in America as I believe the series success is more so based on the design and functionality of the game vs location itself.

I don't see that they will lock themselves into telling the same story over and over and over and over and let someone else make a Narcos game.

It would end up being one of the stupidest mistakes a major company has made in gaming in quite some time.

So GTA can be about "Americanism and the pop culture", it doesn't mean its 100% for LIFE going to be locked to that as it limits the series greatly and allows for any competitor to tell a superior story not being locked to something so silly based on a statement from 2012....

Don’t take this the wrong way, but by your logic Mario Kart, which to this date the series has sold in excess of 134 million copies should turn their creative talent, branding and specialised expertise towards a gritty, Gone in 60 Seconds, Fast and the Furious style racing sim, because if they don’t it:

“limits the series greatly and allows for any competitor to make a superior game”?

That’s not how business works. That’s not what you do to a multi award winning, Guinness Book of Records breaking franchise that has been working since 1997 .

Branding is intrinsically tied to identity and messaging, so to disregard one, or both heads of Rockstar Games when they message and identify their games as a “Satire on American culture” is ridiculous. They are telling you directly the identity and message of the franchise.

I’m sorry dude, but just because you want it doesn’t make it so. Another developer are free to make Narco the game (and I would love it)

Oh, and to suggest that if they don’t move the geography outside of America would be the “stupidest mistakes a major company has made in gaming in quite some time”, they have to this date $6 billion worth of reasons to keep it in America.

I feel like I’m conversing with my 16 year old brother so don’t take this the wrong way, but by your logic Mario Kart, which to this date the series has sold in excess of 134 million copies should turn their creative talent, branding and specialised expertise towards a gritty, Gone in 60 Seconds, Fast and the Furious style racing sim,

??? I'm not asking GTA to change its genre though.....

It makes no sense to assume for LIFE a series will lock its content to 1 country. The series is literally about crime, it would make zero sense to then NOT actually go to many countries that shaped the world in this very subject. No one in the United States have ever effected the drug trade compared to South America.

That’s not what you do to a multi award winning, Guinness Book of Records breaking franchise that has been working since 1997 .

Being in America didn't give them those records though so....sorry but a setting isn't so locked to the concept, that it MUST be in America for life 300 years later or something. It sounds odd and silly, like you are trying to force a unnecessary absolution to something that makes very little sense for a company to box themselves in to such a situation.

they have to this date $6 billion worth of reasons to keep it in America.

Nope. They have 6 billion reasons why they can afford to make GTA in any fucking country they feel like it. Who isn't buying GTA cause its not in the same 3 fucking cities? As in the country itself is more important then any other thing about GTA? So sounds like you are making a huuuuuuuge assumption as I don't see them limiting the team to something like that.

. Another developer are free to make Narco the game

Yet and ROCKSTAR is free to do that too. So sorry dude, you don't own Rockstar. They are going to make that series where every they fucking feel like it. I don't see them spending a lifetime in 1 place cause a guy who doesn't even work at the company anymore said so.

You could have argued that about Assassins Creed and been wrong. (oh but the series is about) WRONG
Watchdogs....and been wrong. (but its about spying in America, so no way a 3rd game is in UK as-) WRONG
Farcry and been WRONG (oh but its always on a island, it must be as dat is its main thing doe, so this rumor about Farcry 5 must be incor-) WRONG

I mean...GTA has never be done outside of America before right? So it will NEVER be done outside of America /s

1. There are 2 Houser's. Only 1 has left.
2. Of the 12 GTA releases only 1 has left the USA.

I stand by my points.

That said, i would love to see Rockstar tackle other open worlds, it's just not going to happen via GTA

I think Take Two would not allow Rockstar to do anything set in the past after RDR2 Online failed to copy GTA Online success despite following the same formula. You see, Rockstar has to keep RDR2 Online somewhat realistic because the game is set in 1899; they can t add flying horses and fire breathing donkeys because it would make game look like even bigger joke than GTA Online. Year 1899 is limiting them in their MTX plans, because fornite kids sure would pay for that shit.

The map looks like shit even for a fan made.

This is my fave San Andreas fan made map:

Gifbrah-GTA-San-Andreas.jpg
The leaked map at least has separate islands. GTA5 and this map leave the sea as useless and unused.
With the separate islands boats and planes at least become more useful.

Fuck yes if GTA VI takes place/has parts that take place in the #1980s

I want to see sick ray traced neon lights bouncing of buildings and puddles driving into the horizon listening to synth tunes on the radio!
