I may sound hypocrite-ish because I love Back to the Future and Planet of the Apes (original) and both have time travel but, in general, time travel is a lazy excuse to fix canon fuckups so I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I think one can still like a franchise that has time travel but still think it is a shit plot device in general.

MK11 is a great game, but MK9 was the best. If they could capture that lightning in a bottle again they would be onto something. Not saying 11 is bad. It’s a big step up from X, but 9 was fantastic by every meaning of the word. MK will always have a special place in my heart because I grew up with the series from a child to an adult. It’s great to see them achieve this sort of success. Kudos NRS.

I'm not into fighting games, but the few I've played were mk and dragonball fighter Z, tried to pickup with sf but it was too hard to control... Mk was easy

Does MK still have a block button? Last time I played MK was the 90s (aside from dabbling with I think an MK game on PS2 that was fully 3D)

I never got used to it.

Playing SF first, I was used to holding back to spam blocking.

Street Fighter V could have done better if it hadn't had to leave out the Xbox. Capcom did have a way around that that I was hoping that they'd exercise. Street Fighter EX Collection and Street Fighter EX4, that could have been pretty wild. Arika's been doing pretty good with Fighting EX Layer, I'm sure that they would have been open to returning to a partnership with Capcom.

Soulcalibur deserves much more sales.

Soulcalibur 6 is incredible.

I'd blame part of that on Sony. Them buying up exclusivity for 3, probably helped to set it back on other platforms. If 4+ came to Sony and Microsoft systems, but Nintendo was left out. Definitely due in part to power, but I have a feeling that if 3 had of released for Gamecube with sales just as solid as 2, Namco would have seen fit to keep the Wii/Wii U/3DS/Switch in the loop on some of the releases or with their own separate releases.

Namco probably thought that it was fluke with 2 due to Link's inclusion and the Nintendo of that era also kept very strong grudges against companies when they felt that they were slighted. They help to develop Smash now, but I can only imagine that it took them a lot of time behind closed doors to get to this point again.

It has, that was what made it easy to me

Just be happy Fighting Games are doing well again, they kinda went through a dead phase for a while, sales seem to be up this gen for both Mortal Kombat and Tekken, which is fine by me (especially after the world did Tekken Tag 2 so dirty and it bombed).

Perfect example of why chasing the fighting game community over the mainstream and casual audience is pointless. Fighting game needs single player content and the MK series is the only fighting game series that constantly delivers in those regards. Basically all Japanese fighters went backwards in single player content compared to previous generations.

As a huge fighting game nut that despises the FGC mentality I totally agree with this.

GOAT fighting game and gamers know that, master of kombat, Raiden can roll out of bed and kick Chun-Li's, Mario's and Tekken's ass.

I can agree with this.

I can also agree with those hailing MK2 as a great game. It absorbed a lot of my arcade gaming time. My arcade Mount Rushmore is:

1. VF4
2. KI
3. SSF2:T
4. MK2

That's some fine company MK2 is keeping, IMO.

Ha. Im the opposite. Could never get used to holding a block button.

In SF, I was one of those turtlers holding back block or block + crouch in the corner waiting for an opportunity to counter.

Worked well in old SF games, but not so much in the latter versions. lol

For me the novelty soon wears off with the increased level of fatality like moves intergrated into the main fighting system....though what I do like is the settings, and characters but when it comes to all that dec-cap stuff, not for me....just sayin...

Wrong numbers for Smash bros. The current sales for Ultimate based on them is 18.84 mil but Sakurai already said that Ultimate had already passed 20 mil.

Sorry MK.

Sales ranking is inversely proportional to my preference. Amazing.

(I prefer Tekken to SF2 actually, but admittedly my experience with SF stops at 2 Super Turbo)

Aren't ya glad Ono's gone now. Fingers crossed and high hopes for SFVI.
Cautiously optimistic. It's still Capcom and we still got 4 different Street Fighter Vs despite them promising there'd only be 1, and even still I have to give them credit that they handled their fighting game dlc the best of anyone else this gen (they gave the chance to grind them out) as sad as that is.

Well deserved. I still can't describe the excitement 9-year-old me felt the first time I put my hands on the joystick of the original MK arcade cabinet and walking out of the KB Toys on Mortal Monday when it was released on home consoles.

Holy shit, I totally forgot about Mortal Monday! That was a HUGE deal, especially back then. Along with the whole blood versus sweat controversy between Sega and Nintendo :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Seeing the cabinet for the first time was one of my most memorable gaming moments as well. Blown away.

I don't know why people keep thinking this.

I am assuming those who do forgot about the announcements before launch and the very bad reception the game got on release along with having next to zero content and a barebones MP being the only thing existing which hurt it sales massively.
Yea, the game was a bit polarizing, but are you able to prove that sales would have been lower if the game had of also released for the Xbox One? If you can't prove that, then you're wrong in thinking that leaving out the Xbox One is insignificant.

Street Fighter V launching poorly, charging out the ass for dlc and having crap netcode and low content definitely is a big hit, but they left out a capable platform with a sizable market of consumers that have likely played and purchased games in the Street Fighter franchise in the past. So it still likely would have sold poorly as a Street Fighter game, but would have had higher sales regardless due to reach. It may have even had enough combined, live revenue to allow for better updates/focus during its' release cycle although that's not provable at all. The only likely thing that can be safely assumed is that sales would have had a greater pool of customers to draw from and that sales could have potentially been higher overall due to this.

Mechanically I've never liked MK, just too simplistic. But one thing the last few games did better than the rest was the single player story content, the rest can really learn from that. Only Blazblue comes to mind that invests in that, but that's a bit too visual novel-y for me.

No, I don't need proof unless you think the Xbox version of SFV would have sold better than the PS4 version which is just absurd. SFV released on PS4 and PC and not only had a :polarizing" launch but tons of complaints when it came out with people saying not to buy it because there weren't any modes, lack of characters, and no SP.

Sorry MK.

We don't have current sales for MKX so that could make up the difference for all we know. It'll be close though I am curious how the MK11 DLC will do, it reached 8 million faster than any other MK gamer I take it will outsell MKX within the next some months.

Sure, we'll see.

Tekken doesn't have much of a ceiling. It was even more accessible than MK back in the PS2 and MK4 days which is why it exploded on the scene. One of the reasons why it was the best selling Fighting game series until MKX.

Not my bag, but you gotta hand it to them. Japan has been throwing their full weight behind keeping their fighting game franchises alive, yet Netherrealm shows up and singlehandedly demonstrates how you make fighting games mainstream. Old MK games were fine for the time, but it wasn't a great franchise. The credit really belongs to Netherreealm.

They added SFV to PS Plus this September, so probably the number will increase in several millions more once they update the numbers with this last quarter.
SFV PS4 exclusivity probably didn't help.
Yes, MK11 sold 8M being multiplatform while SFV sold 4.7M (as of June 30, but it was added to PS Plus in September) while being console exclusive.
