PlayStation Support: Backward compatibility: PlayStation®4 games playable on PlayStation®5

I'm glad Watch_Dogs will work. That game doesn't work with rest mode so I thought there might be some compatibility issues.

Also, guess I'll need to finish Hitman: Go before moving onto PS5.

SlimySnake

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Thats the main question I have so far For PS5. Especially since Cerny mentioned it.
and The first Spiderman demo...

Mostly Im waiting to see what Boost mode will mean for:

Death Stranding
TLOU2
Ghosts of Tsushima
Red Dead Redemption 2
Dark Souls 3
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Bloodbourne
And

Spider - Man.......!!!.....!!!?
Nothing. None of these games apart from dark souls 3 have an unlocked framerate or dynamic resolution so you won't get any benefits.

Unless a game has an unlocked framerate mode or a dynamic resolution, don't expect any difference

I cant give up lol.
I really hope they don’t re release TLOU2 and Death Stranding. Ill pay a bit for an upgrade but not a whole new game like TLOU 1 from PS3 to PS4. No need for that anymore. Same with Death Stranding, no need to re release

This is some great news, and about what folks were expecting 👍

I'm curious how many of these are compatible with Boost mode; last figure had them having tested about 100 games. It'd be nice if they gave an update on that front with this one but they'll probably do that a week or two from now anyway.

Also this stuck out to me:

  1. You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.

Is there a specific reason the game needs to be inserted each and every time? Sounds like a form of license checking, but couldn't they just simply get some kind of unique ID code off the disc, store it to the cloud, and then just have it so that the user needs to briefly be online to verify being able to play the game without the disc being in the drive? Maybe some kind of matching ID could be generated for that game getting initially verified with the disc in the drive on that system, and could even do it on a per-account basis?

It'd actually be better if the system had some kind of private NAND cache inaccessible by the user, where it could get and/or generate some kind of reference code to the digital copy of the game if it's installed on the internal SSD, expandable SSD or external storage device. Then implement some kind of encrypted ID reference code for any external drive the digital copy of the PS4 game is installed onto. If the user tries playing the game from an external drive without the matching reference code they'd be prompted to provide the original disc again.

I guess Sony's got it set up the way it is currently, to ensure people aren't simply borrowing the game from a friend and try to pass it off as their own purchase, which would be an issue if the system only needed the game disc inserted and verified once.

But I think generating some kind of unique encrypted reference ID code for a digital copy of that game installed onto either the system or external storage matching some type of unique identification of the game disc (I'm sure every printed disc of a physical release has to have SOME kind of unique identification of some sort issued during the printing phase, right?), which could be further expanded to a matching encrypted code installed on the connected 3rd-party storage drive (if the game is installed there), would be a better solution, though maybe a bit more complicated.

There's no accounting for an animation playing oddly or going down a ladder faster or weird crap like that, it can always happen on different hardware / emulation. They certainly have to mention it
If the experience is satisfactory to you.

People trend to have different options.

The game works.

Seems more to me there are going to be issues with lots of games and they just threw this out there to say "well, we warned you..." rather than work to actually fix these sorts of issues in their emulation. They did say to make sure to download the latest PS5 software so hopefully they actively work towards fixing this stuff. There have been lots of rumors saying they're having issues with BC and this press release makes it seem like there was truth to those rumors.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
That's a really weird list of incompatible games. It's a shame that Shadow Complex Remastered is on the list I guess it's Xbox exclusive now! but I'm not too worried about the rest.

I wonder if "specialty licenced peripherals" means the Rock Band 4 fender guitar. Hoping so.

There is no emulation.

PS5 APU works via hardware as PS4 and PS4 Pro APU.
AMD and Sony worked to make that works.

Games works... if it is satisfactory to you is on you.

Well that way you can do that in every friend PS4 and call a day.

Now you can only play the game where the disc is... so it is fair.

Never sold my stuff. What would happen if he does not? Should be able to do it afterwards as well, correct?

The new owner can, if have the account information, log in using his account and download all his digital library.

If you for example, remove the PS4 as your main console, even if the person have your Playstation Account log in on that particular PS4 system, he will not have permition to download your digital catalogue.

Some games may receive errors and odd behaviors, please don't buy DLC until you try the game to make sure it works? What the hell is going on here? This is a load of crap...

Try and think before you comment.

They also has the similar wording for ps4pro, but all titles I played worked in pro mode.

Its called a legal disclaimer, MS also wont say 100 % everything works legally, nobody will.

Blue Spring

Read my tears about xbox here --->
People have been punishing Sony for trying to be upfront and accurate with its statements about BC.

Other companies would have said 6 months ago that the PS5 is full backwards compatible with PS4 and hope people don't notice or care for the few exception games.
Actual transperancy is to admit the shortcomings as well.
This is something a lot of people dont understand.

Does that mean you can't transfer cloud saves from PS4 to PS5?

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
So basically, a portfolio of 4k games. Is this not the biggest launch line-up according to some metrics?

If you count BC as launch line-up then the original fatty PS3 had almost every PS1+2 game combined.

I suspect "certain" ppl will still shit on this BC because "Playable" does not mean: "4K 60fps". Neither does PS5 Boost mode guarantee anything.

PS4 games will probably look and run more or less like on PS4. I expect glitches and freezes too, because I don't believe they played through every game from beginning to end.

I was really hoping for PS1/2 BC even if it's just emulation. Not sure why they didn't include it, must be technical somehow though I'm not sure what would prevent that.

There is a difference. If the framerate is locked how can the game benefit?
There is a lot of ways.

Better resolution, better AF, etc etc etc... even locked framerate games can have better framerate (not all games are flawless locked).

Hmmm, a few worrying bits of info in that blog post

Your geniune concern is noted, thanks for sharing.

Why not join the concersation ? What is worring exactly ? Seems to be same as MS, your limited by whattever the software caps are on teh game running, and a few titles nobody cares about out of 1000's wont work so good.

Usual disclaimers and legal covering their arse.

This has been mentioned before but I'm glad they gave it further clarity. I would like to see boost mode in action please!

Is that exactly how every other game and system has done it for the last 2 generations?
