Either it has no relevance to the SSD itself or it's part of the cooling solution and making use of it for the SSD bay.
Not sure about either, pure speculation.
I wasnt very clear in my response. I think it may be padding for the ssd access door. Not actually touching to the drive at all, just the door to get to it

There will be other producers of the XBOX memory expansion and different sizes too. They're the same price now except one is a lot more convenient. We'll see how it all plays out.

The drive slides there and those 4 holes are where the ssd's back is screwed. 4 holes means it can accept 4 formats (sizes) of ssds.

It's quite costly at the moment at $450. At that price I'll be transferring back and forth to an existing external SSD until a few years from now when the price hopefully will drop to around $200.

The 3TB one is the 450 dollar price. The 500 GB is 149 and the 2TB is 229.

And notice how every PC that is pre-built for you, and every oil change done at a shop costs a more than doing it yourself.
Only a small number of PS5 gamers will end up disassembling the console and screwing in a compatible PC SSD. I bet most PS5 users will just plug in an external HDD like on Xbox and PS4 and think it does the same thing.

Not much use by the end of the gen but at least it will be useful for the PS6. I'm assuming SSD will be used on that as well and not considered obselete by then.
500GB is $300 per TB
2TB is $115 per TB
3TB is $150 per TB
So the 500GB version is terrible value compared to the others. Personally I'd go with the 2TB version at that price but I'll be holding out until 2022 anyway so if prices have dropped enough by then I'll go with a 3TB.
