PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders Starting TOMORROW (Sep 17) (Some may be TODAY)

Finally got in the store. 3rd person in line was turned away. The fucking GameStop employees bought them all up.

Waste of a night on the street.

Fuck GameStop

Damn.

Did they put a notice on the store front of how many they had? like this?

If they had more, say 10, written on said notice, and only allowed 3 to be pre-ordered you could've made a big fuss.

No, I talked with the manager afterward, he confirmed with me the day before they had 6 ps5 (disk) and 8 series X. So when I saw the third person in line turned away I went and grabbed the manager and asked what happened. He said likely employees with store access grabbed the few preorders they had before they even opened. Which is why I mentioned it.

He also compared it to PS4 preorders which were allocated 76 preorders and 50 somthing guaranteed stock by this time just for his store. He never saw this kind of constraint with hardware sales ever.

Pretty nuts.

Also camping wasn't worth it lol. Fuck 2020.

Since he's the manager he's at fault unfortunately. That should be against company policy. Again we can all rejoice when they close up shop and I don't wanna hear about the poor employees when they do. Shit company with shit people running it.

So those asshats can gloat to customers who come into the store legitimately wanting a console. Nice.

Got the Disc Edition PS5 and the 3D Pulse headset ordered on Amazon UK. Easily ordered during the 2nd wave this morning as I was busy last week and missed the 1st drop. Will pick up Demon’s Souls sometime at launch as I don’t want to pay £70, gotta shave that price down.

Man, i thought my first night getting an order in at BB was bad, now i'm just glad I did.

Of course, i've been sitting on 500 in credit from that gamestop week a few years back, since converted to amazon through some other nonsense. And now im buying from BB.... but I suppose it could be worse.

GameStop employees are allowed to reserve systems and oft, those systems are reserved before the door even opens for that day.

However, employees are only allowed to order one system. This isn't really about them scalping themselves, though I'm sure it happens. But LP watches that very, very closely.

My guess is they notify friends in advance who show up early to pay cash and flip them, splitting proceeds with the employee, which avoids the LP eye.

Another reason you see a differential is those friends or sometimes customersthey liked because they boosted their numbers

In my time there, it was not uncommon if a store had 10 systems, they'd "hold" one for more someone.

They'd tell customers they sold out, when in reality they had probably a few more to sell, but it was "held" for friends.

I never agreed and just told people to get there, make the plan and execute. You either make it or you don't.

However, I made an exception myself, only once, for a years-long regular customer who was wheelchair bound and relied on special city transport bus to get to us.

He came shop and visit with us usually once a week on Friday's and despite his disability and speech difficulty was a smart and genuine person.

He could only play specific games, but gaming was his escape and he was fiercely loyal. I do not regret that one I did and never will.

that’s a huge problem, though.

the consoles are so scarce, and people are waiting outside for hours. Employees should not have first dibs, especially when there is no effort on their part to obtain the console. They also shouldn’t be allowed to purchase anything/pre order while on the clock.

if GameStop had more integrity, they would investigate all the stores. The fact that this is commonplace shows how shitty the culture is there, and also shows the lack of accountabilit.

GameStop as a whole is full of unethical business practices. What you suggest will never happen. They're too haughty to do such a thing. Their incessant pressure on employees and insistence on treating customers like trash is why I left years ago.

They are still refusing(and yes, it is them probably refusing on point of pride) to stock any more ample supply, if any, of PS5DE or Series S *despite* hemorrhaging millions per quarter because it doesn't help their Circle of Life model.

You'll be fine if you've ordered a next-gen console from them, if your store shuts they'll move the allocated units to a nearby location, but do not expect them to be alive much longer in this generation.

They've at best a year the way digital and streaming is progressing.

I do know they make very little off the hardware sales. That’s why they push software and accesories so hard.

but you are correct. By the time PS6 rolls around, all games will be digital and I expect GameStop to be out of business by then.

also anyone reading this thread at REEEE? https://www.resetera.com/threads/playstation-5-pre-order-mega-thread.288008/page-391

a scalper said he had 12 consoles preordered and they are all losing their shit lol

Whoa, that's insane. If they put a sign up in the store, you definitely could make an argument to Corporate on that. Fucked up.

I remember missing out on preorders for the PS3 but was at Best Buy a few months after release as they brought a few out from the back. Felt like I won the lottery.
Been lucky preordering PS4 from Best Buy and PS5 from Amazon

Me and a friend went to Best Buy hungover one more a week after Ps3 launch and they had consoles!
