Biggest laugh is the same Eurogamer article that revealed the price-point has a little stinger to say that the PS5 upgrades in the same way... for balance of course, and not damage-control! LOL

And people still wonder why they get side-eyed for being partisan.

Digital Foundry hasn't said shit about the pricing, no wonder they belong to Eurogamer...

Price in the UK, £219 same as in the US, but in £... Fucking joke!

£159 would be "ok" but £219 is a joke.

Staying with external normal HDD.

While it is absolutely overpriced even allowing for mark-up, it actually isn't a rip-off though MS don't employ the same "fairness" as they did with console prices.

So £220 minus 20% VAT = £176. £176 converted to US$ = $224. We are $4 more before the dreaded VAT/taxes.

dont you replace the drive like on the ps4?

Not as I understand it. The flash chips for the 825GB are soldered to the motherboard just like the RAM chips. Then there is a slot or bay where we can add to it.

Gamepass doesn't FORCE YOU do download all the games on the service like a hoarder. Some people are going to have to change their mindset from a squirrel with it's cheeks full, to having only the games on hand they ACTUALLY want to play.

Yeah that argument is toast. The idea that anyone needs to have dozens and dozens of games ready to play at any time is stupid.

learn something new every day. then why wouldn't they go down the route Microsoft has, seems odd to put it behind a few screws dont it?

We actually have no idea where the bay Mark Cerny talked about is. None of the pictures we have seen show anything like a bay unless it is extremely well hidden. I can't believe it would require the removal of the top/bottom lid. That would lead to many broken cases as I see no screws.....

I am only going off my PS4 with that, there must be some kind of pop out plastic bit then

It's fun coming from the Motion Picture industry where the cost of high speed media is justified by the time it takes on set to finish a task. The storage & speed to cost ratio seems right. I think the fun part is seeing how games can utilize this hardware or if they will at all, I'm looking at you N64 Expansion Pak.

Seriously. How many games do people play in a week? 2 or 3 for most people i'd guess.

If I last played Doom in 2018 and don't currently plan to play it again anytime soon, why do I need to have it permanently installed on my system? I've only ever the internal memory of a 1TB PS4 Pro. I've sometimes had to do some management (and that was because I was regularly trying games for cheap via a rental service) and it was no big deal.

I was still able to have plenty of AAA games on there at one time plus a load of much smaller indie titles. I usually get a game, complete it once or twice and then move onto something else. Sometimes I might have two games going like that at once. Add in one or two multiplayer games I might play every week. So that's 4 titles maybe.

In that very typical scenario where does the need to be able to instantly play any one of 20 AAA games come in?

Not surprised. So happy that 1TB SSD on Xbox Series X and 825GB SSD on PlayStation 5 will be plenty of space for me. :)

Brings back memories of PS2/GC memory cards and 360 HDDs. I don't think this is that bad, but I'm definitely going to try to stretch the internal storage as far as it will go lol.

It is much worse than with the 360 HDD. That was a £210 'core' console and a £70 HDD. This is a £250 console and a £220 SSD.

My post was literally moved from another thread that didn't have "1TB in the thread title" and the article was in a language i didn't understand, that's why i asked because the price is outrageous.

Fair enough, I didn't know any of that info, my bad for assuming.

This is the sort of thing that would delay my purchase of a next gen console. My PS4 Pro is already above 1 TB in used storage. I need at least 2TB and I would want all of it to be the faster storage.

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
This is only around a $10 markup over a unhoused PC equivalent. Why are people making a fuss again?

Jeeeebus. The Samsung one that "supposedly" meets Sony's specs is overpriced to hell too. Thank god I'm going physical. I can manage games storage more easily til these drop in price significantly.
You know you can use external HDDs as cold storage for both, don't you?

The Samsung SSD 980 pro is available for 210€. Nearly 7GB read speed and also a five years warranty.
Seagate and MS are ripping people off. But this was expected with their custom solution. Like Sony did with their vita cards.

because if you want it to be played again you can do it instantly. I see the second HDD being used to transfer games to and fro will be useful with these prices

Had to google it and apparently £220 = $280, so yeah that's terrible. For $220 in US I think it's around $50 too much, which is still bad but not terrible.

Figured this proprietary stuff would be expensive. Sounds like I can use a generic USB drive though (without the obvious benefits) so this is not much of an issue for me.

People have different styles and needs.

"Some monks live naked in a cave, whom you are saying clothing and houses are needed?"

I know many people with 10-20 AAA games installed. Because some dont finish games fast, one friend played witcher 3 for 3-4 years.

I have 20+ single players and 5-10 multiplayers installed on pro

Because I start a game and forger it for months/years before continuing.

Main thing is download times, I dont want to pay 20-40€ for 1000mbps connection, so I just use 9.90€ 100mbps and it takes some time to download + install patches

Maybe if PS5 installs are almost instant, I dont need to have all the shit installed

Again $280 is a straight conversion that isn't fair. Without tax the UK would be $224 or just $4 more than the US which is listed before tax.
