Square Enix has released the Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online trailer for Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.

The company also announced that total worldwide shipments and digital sales for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age have surpassed six million units, and that the physical edition of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will ship with a special sleeve in Japan.

Totally deserving! Congrats SE!

Gonna replay it, and finish it this time. I stopped midway for some reason, and never got back to it, partly cause I wanted to see if they'd add in orchestral music. So I'll start fresh now.

A bit bummed it's a visual downgrade though. It should be definitive edition on all fronts :(

Holy cow, that's alot more than I thought. It's probably getting close to one million sales on Steam, but that's at a very high price that hasn't gone down much I think.

A wonderful game in a way, one of those rare games that feel like a real adventure and takes you to diverse amazingly realized locations. (Damn, I am now thinking about reinstalling it, lol.)

Bought the original not too long ago, still haven't had a chance to play it. Now SE is trying to resell the same game as the definitive edition, with inferior graphics I heard? This got to be the scummiest practice since when? Spider-Man remastered? Devil May Cry 5 remastered?

The special sleeve reminds me of the special sleeve that came on the "Gorgeous" (deluxe) version on the Switch in JP, except this one is more blingy.
I have the Gorgeous version as it came with my DQ11 Switch special edition console. Looking forward to trying out the Xbox version on game pass as well.

So I would be better served to get the original Steam ver and just patch in orchestral audio?
This definitive edition is the Switch version?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Decent number of JRPGs are above or around 5m already!

Nier Automata - 4.8m-5m
Dragon Quest XI -6m
Final Fantasy XV - 8.9m+
Final Fantasy VII Remake - 5m+
Persona 5 + Royal - ~5m
Kingdom Hearts III - 5m+

Fucking deserved. Great game that still loyal to its roots in terms of combat. Not to mention its good cast of characters. All that with an open world, with DQ charming designs.

As a big fan of DQ series, I'm totally happy with this.

I bought and started this game on PS4 when it came out, and I liked everything about it....except the music. Only 5 or so total songs in the entire game, including one song on the overworld for the entire game (which is where most of the game takes place). Completely killed my enjoyment. This re-release isn't going to add more songs to the existing soundtrack, but will allow you to switch between different soundtracks? Is that right?

One of my fav this gen. Very happy it's done great. Can't wait for XII :)

What's this about the definitive edition being a downgrade though? Understandable if it's the Switch version, but is it the same for PS4 and Xbone?

From my understanding they just ported the Switch version so that's why the downgrade (compared to the original PS4 version)

Rather than adding the extra content to the original Ps4/Pc build of the game, this is going to be a higher res port of the Switch version.
So it's expected (and sort of confirmed in the trailer) that stuff like the reduced object detail, reduced texture quality and reduced foliage will also be there on the new Ps4/Xb1/PC release, just at a higher res.

As an example:

Top is Switch bottom is PC. It's expected that the new version will look like the top pic but obviously at a much higher resolution

Yeah i hate to say it but that looks like a lazy port.

I first played it on PS4 and when i'm going to replay it for the extra content i'll just get the Switch version.

Falcom need to start closing the gap with the Trails Series becoming such an impressive and voluminous run of games. Trails Of Cold Steel 3 is an amazing modern JRPG that deserves more love.

Before they start closing the gap they need to finally upgrade their engine for their games to stop looking like early PS3 games. And this is coming from someone who doesn't care much about the technical side of graphics. I don't know how they done it but YSIX actually looks worse than YSVIII...

It's just a shame there won't be an actual "Definitive Edition".
On Ps4 and PC you'll have 2 separate versions: One with more content and one with better graphics.

I went into TOCS 3 fearing the worst but it turned out to be a decent jump from the first two. It was really refreshing having all the backstory and characterization of the prequels then getting a semi-generational boost in graphics & catching up with your friends..
