Xbox criticised for ‘creating a confusing mess’ with Series S - Remedy dev shares concern

I find the Xbox names quite annoying.

Just typing or talking about them is irritating trying to use the right name and also to find an appropriate abbreviation. Xbox Series X is just tedious to say, especially if it you're also discussing the Xbox One X or Xbox One S.

Abbreviating to XSX is ok to write but slightly awkward off the tongue. XSS a little less so.

Compare all of this to the ease of writing, saying and remembering Sony's console names: PlayStation 5. PS5. So simple. No way of confusing one PlayStation for another, either.

On the S/X hearing difficulty, and getting frankly sick of saying "Xbox Series Whatever", my friend and I have resorted to saying "X box" and "S box". "OGXB", "X360" and "Xbox 1" to differentiate.

Same here. Imagine it was just called Xbox Two and Xbox Two Lite, or something. I was talking recently with a friend about loads of console news and amount of Xbox this Xbox that....fuck.

Its not ideal naming for sure. At some point i think they just want to two product lines, x and s. But its a little confusing coming off last generation being the one x.

But theres only two choices being produced now. Two? We cant differentiate between two choices? How do people buy pcs, phones, cars if two lines of the same product confuses them so much?

I think its all being blown out of proportion.

Its literally only an issue on amazon because their XSX searches end up showing Xbox one consoles. I know cause i was searching yesterday on every site for my preorder.

Retail stores dont have anymore xbox one consoles in stock. So soccer moms cant get confused with something they dont sell anymore.

Other sites like best buy, MS store etc actually show the proper results when you type in "xbox series X".

It cant possibly be an issue come November unless the only place you shop at is on amazon.com. And even then.

I was speaking from a marketing perspective for MS. Not for consumers.

Staggering that people are finding this complicated.

I said this before, try buying a Samsung TV.

I do think Xbox Series 4X and Series 4S would have been better, but I understand the worry around PS5 sounding more advanced because it has a ‘bigger number’.

I also do like the idea of just going into a store and knowing that ordering the X version means power, and S means value.

They didn’t get it exactly right IMO, but call shenanigans on the faux confusion being an actual problem.

The reasons to mock are becoming weaker and weaker, clearly.

The whole point of the alleged confusion is how it affects customers.

That was never my allegation. Me and others have wondered how MS would balance their marketing speak of "POWER MATTERS" - XSX and "ONLY PRICE MATTERS, NOT POWER" - XSS.

Why do they have to? I feel you are missing a couple of key words and a question mark:

Power matters to you? Series X
Price matters to you? Series S

It’s really not that complicated.

It's not "complicated" to understand. But it is complicated to see which one MS cares about more. And which one they will hitch their ride on for most of next-gen. At some point, they'll have to focus on one more than the other. Plus they lost the power argument for the entire gen. I'm guessing they never "REALLY" cared about that award though. They care more about Gamepass subscriptions increasing than pushing the "most powerful" narrative.

Microsoft should hire someone else to name their consoles, and I wonder why basically everything leaks all the time. Other than that, I think they'll be fine. PS5 will be the leading console in units sold, but I think everyone already knows that.

Sweet fuck stop this shit now.

Kid's found themselves a new no-effort ad hominem they think wins any argument, but just makes them look like the no-effort trolls they are, who ever jerked out this phrase needs to get lost in a time portal and run down their mother's leg onto the sheets.

it's not that confusing really once the xbox one models are all gone. besides that, people have been asking for different SKUs with higher specs for a long time... for the folks that want that and the lower end model for more casuals (or that second kids box).

The series S may not sell like gangbusters but it might fit a need and it might be profitable since it's all digital. I mean let's face it the series S is not for Neogaf and enthusiasts, it doesn't mean it won't be a success. but as a fornite box for them kids it might be a good thing, especially in multi-kid households.

They started a new naming scheme twice so there was no Xbox 3/Three.

Xbox Two would keep it inline with their previous console.

Let's face it... It's Microsoft's thing to be confusing with names. The "Xbox one" name still makes conversations confusing when talking about the original Xbox.

360 was "can't call it Xbox 2 because 3 is greater than 2 and Sony is putting out the ps3

They still went with XB1 vs PS4 tho. They could've name it Xbox V, like a roman 5. Or just skip a number to get even with Sony's naming, they already did that several times with Windows.
