I said yesterday that it wouldn't surprise me if they had one last big acquisition in them. They are playing the long game. This isn't about recouping everything in the next 5 yrs, they are already preparing for the gen afterwards.

By then, there will most probably be an app on your tv where you game stream their games as well.

They are getting everything into place.

People need to prepare to not be seeing any more bethesda games anywhere else after the deathloop and the game are finished. They want you in their eco system, and are spending big to give you the incentives

What studios has Microsoft shut down recently? AFAIK, wasn't Sony the one who shut down Evolution Studios (DriveClub), also shut down Manchester Studios (PSVR AAA titles) recently this year, and a UK-based Guerrilla Games studios in 2017?

As for building studios/nurturing talent, both Microsoft and Sony have done this, but Sony Entertainment has grown into the juggernaut it became in the 2010s through savvy acquisitions (Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, etc.).

I'm all for competition as Sony really needs someone to bitchslap them but I hope this won't result in a digital-only mediocre quality GP titles future. I hope MS lets them do what they would do anyway, just provide them the money, like Sony does for its own studios. Imagine a future where you can't decide which console has better exclusives as they one up each other constantly...

Microsofts Console Plan:

1. Get all companies on Game Pass
2. Buy al companies that you have to pay for gamepass
3. ????
4. Profit.

You dont have to pay companies for Game Pass inclusion if you own them.

While doing it they will reduce support for PS 5 and sooner or later they will win the console war because all games are on Xbox. and you will only have to pay a monthly fee for game pass.

They could even raise game pass price for another 10 dollar and nobody would complain then.

Don't be surprised if MS invests in Sony a la Apple in the 90's. A strong Sony will help keep the vultures away. MS will be happy selling 75 million Series X/S while Sony sells 100 million. As long as this keeps Google, Facebook and Amazon at bay, they're fine with being #2.

Why do we need to talk only about the recent studio management by Microsoft instead of their overall history of poorly handling studios and why are you specifically talking about Sony and avoiding talking Nintendo?

They succeeded for 10 of those years. It was only since 2010 with kinect and then the xbone, that they failed to read the market.

Now that they're making moves to buy studios - not just any studios, but ones that compliment one another. With this strategy, MS might be back to their best. Fingers crossed.
