Looking at the Fortnite next-gen trailer, almost frame by frame (cuz I’m a nerd), some stuff I noticed.

- Level of detail really is way higher, and it’s indisputable. The difference between the One X (the single best place to play Fortnite on console right now) and the PS5, particularly in the distance, is night and day.

- Real Clouds, which I covered, but they’re so detailed that light from the contrails is actually cast on them, as you pass through.

- Different water system. Rushing water looks more natural, more like actual creeks and rivers would.

- Death scatters you into a thousand cubes, which get absorbed into the little robot thing. Completely unnecessary, but awesome.

- Chug jugs get liquid everywhere.

- Better lighting from stuff. The campfire at the end, shadows cast, and the way the scene is lit, is actually kind of extraordinary.

Stuff I think I noticed:

- Better grass. Something about the scenes just seem so much more full and natural.

- Raytraced reflections? Not sure on this one, but the lake reflections are looking awfully nice.

- Not sure at all on this one, but the way the general daytime lighting looks, I think it may have had an upgrade as well. I can’t shake the feeling that it looks more realistic and nicer.

It’s definitely worth taking a look through. It goes by so fast, that your brain says, well, that’s Fortnite, and that’s true to an extent, but there’s actually a lot of nice details and upgrades.

Bless someone for taking the time to recreate trailer shots in-game, for comparison. I didn’t even think to do it.

Mid-match purple storm aside, you can very clearly see the differences.

It looks more realistic and natural, less cartoony and bright colors. The mountains in the second screenshot are especially telling, as is the grass. I feel slightly better for being a doof and thinking the first few seconds of footage were No Man’s Sky or something.

I actually wanted to comment on that. Lol. MIB (Sweet acronym) started it, then we were all complaining, quite literally, about men in boxes. Days later, there’s an update with like 15 kinds of superpowers to smash people turtling in boxes.

Good on Epic. I immediately noticed a jump in playability and fun, as everyone wasn’t boxing all of a sudden, and I couldn’t figure out why. After seeing the new powers, I definitely could, lol.
I'm not sure if there's a direct correlation between the new powers and less boxes but the unibeam is certainly super fun when I'm the one wielding it!

It does feel really bad when I whiff it though...

Back in Season 5 or 6, when building became a detriment for me, I'd get the minigun (before the cooldown + damage nerfs) get as much ammo as possible and wait for those sweaty kids to rush me. I'd launch pad away knowing they'd be right behind, land in a wide open area with no cover and I'd spray those scumbags until I either got sniped by a third party or until I killed the 12 year old sweat who outbuilt 99 percent of his victims.

I did this repeatedly for months on end. It was, by every definition of the word insanity, but I didn't care. I was...truly happy.

Sounds like I have to find this chest beam thing. Haven't played in a few days.

From my POV this is purely a promotional video for Sony and Epic, not that there's anything wrong with that.

IIRC, in that UE video I posted in the previous thread, Fortnite is going to be the debut of UE5; this video is showing the improvements that UE4.26 (I think) and PS5 are bringing to Fortnite.

Improved volumetric clouds was immediately noticeable, as well as the enhanced lighting throughout.

Eliminated players dissipating into cubes reminded me of Astral Chain:

It seems like there are generally more particles involved in every facet but not to the point of affecting readability, which is something that seems to get overlooked when people discuss graphics in gaming.

Dude wtf, you haven't experienced the joys of the unibeam?

It does 90 damage and blows through any destructible material within its range of 100+ meters (I haven't properly measured it, but it's really far, just not Heavy Sniper far).
Very low startup time but has a lengthy cooldown of 35s or so.

The main issue is that...everyone else will be fighting for it at the Stark POI, so you'll have to earn it first.

I'd advise you to practise a route in the Battle Lab. Stark and his bots still exist in that mode; go figure out an efficient looting route and get used to how the powers operate. GLHF.

Loving this season but hardly have time to play battle royale the past week or two. I go back and forth between fortnite and non-fortnite. Problem is Save the World. The last week or so STW has had more Vbuck missions than the past year it seems. Almost every day I log in there's the normal daily quest, and between 1 and 3 vbuck missions as well. Its taking all my time away, but on the bright side I think I already have next season pass and +25 battle pass levels covered by free vbucks. Unless they drop another expensive Marvel skin that I can't resist.

Oh man, me and my partner usually stalk people like this with the choppa. Loot quickly and position ourselves outside the PoI and wait for the winner to emerge with the weapon we want. We're not good enough to mix it up with the masses in those hot zones right off the bat, but we can ambush pretty effectively.

That's totally the BR way: doing whatever it takes to get an edge over the competition.

Just know that right beside the Stark vault is a choppa as well so that's one avenue of escape for whoever gets the stuff too.

Anyway, I look forward to your impressions and victory royale after getting the Unibeam.

Asked this in a different thread and need some help.

My daughter and I played our first two games together tonight, we won both. Was pretty fun.

She played on my PS4 and I played on my old computer.

The only real issue is that my computer ran pretty darn bad. I did the auto detect feature for the settings, it was awful. Resolution was bad and frame rate was, ok.

My computer is a 2500k, 8 gigs of ddr3, a 560ti 448.

What's the cheapest way to improve this to something more usable? I'm guessing a video card? What would get me to 1080p 60?

Have you tried turning your shadows off in the meantime? It’s a pretty dramatic restoration in performance, to the point where every pro that plays the game does it.

If the shadows change doesn't work, what would you recommend for an inexpensive GPU? It would just be for my kids to play a couple PC games like fortnite. Nothing fancy. Used would be fine.
ymmv with price

i'd probably get a gtx 1660/1650/1050 ti

there's a boost clocked gigabyte 1050 ti for $140 on amazon, haven't looked elsewhere

quick mental math tells my you'd see close to double rates w / higher fidelity, +89% effective speed

7 kill VR to start off the morning. That works for me, lol.

I can’t remember if we discussed it here or not, but I’m always surprised at how much a better player I am after a break, when it should be the opposite of that. I think the matchmaking may hand you a tiny bit of a break, but even still, I can see that I’m playing much better. Stuff that would make me choke normally, is a pittance, and my reaction time, strategy, movement, and building skill is way better.

Going to proffer an opinion. If you disagree, it’s totally cool. It’s all subjective.

I don’t like the theming of this season that much. During the comic lead-up, it was perfect. In the actual season, there is way too much Marvel, and not enough Fortnite. This is less a crossover, than a takeover. I would have liked to see original characters and ideas as well in the Battlepass (maybe Fort’s own superheroes, or famous characters?), and likewise in the story and season. The rifts are a sole example to the contrary, yeah, but they’re a little old hat now.

First season since 8 that I’m looking at my watch a little, and saying, when do we get the next (and original) season?

It’s all really fun, and they’re doing a good job, so it’s not that big of a deal. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes. Upstate New York dropped on the island was pretty cool. Just... something I felt, a month in.

Okay, so I somehow missed this, and a new PoI, and another Mythic, when I played on update day, but Wolverine is in the game as a boss now. You can get his claws and everything.

Thing is, he’s kind of terrifying

Btw, to our thread regulars, as this thread seems to be more and more suppressed by all the next-gen excitement, and will probably only ever spend a short time on the front page, watching it, favoriting it, checking in on it every once in a while, will probably help with activity.

Which sounds a lot like begging for subscribers. Lol. And it’s not even my thread. But I think you get where I’m coming from.

I swear to god this game better be 120fps on next gen consoles...

Bought a 120hz Sony X900H mostly because of this game (and any other competitive game I play on next gen) so they better deliver.

Recently obtained every BP skin as well as their transformations. Some of the challenges for unlocking said transformations were pretty fun and apt.

Eg. Jennifer Walters having to smash a vase then emote to become the She-Hulk.

Why hasn't TLOZ's Link been able to transform into a hulk yet? He's been smashing vases for decades! C'mon Nintendo, Ganondorf can't be the only roid-rager.

Quite happy that Epic has now implemented unique footstep sounds for Ironman and Dr. Doom, sounds somewhat like jangling metal plates and Ironman has the addition of thruster sounds when he jumps. Both make a nice metallic landing sound when landing from a jump too.

Thor's Mjolnir pickaxe is a joy to watch, hear and use. Currently, out of the hundreds of skins in Fortnite, only Thor and Captain America are able to wield it...

Glad to see that Chris "Guard. That. Pussy." Evans' recent social media goof hasn't deemed Captain America as being unworthy to wield the hammer, though Thor is still the only one who can make it glow in the dark, so to speak.

not really, he climbed a tree in xmen 3
I never watched the movies besides First Class...

Now that I think about it, I think he's climbed plenty of Sentinels yea?

Would be a nice PvE mode to have in Fortnite, here's to hoping the Sentinels aren't just for bouncing around, fun as that was.

Me waiting for someone else to land Coral Castle with me

One day, this is going to be an amazing location. 😋
What are you talking about?

It's already amazing!

I explored that area at the end of last season, there's a set of pipes you can blow on, though it didn't summon anything from the deep.

I get your point though, hopefully Epic doesn't let it go forgotten like they did the fissures in C1S8.

I came here to say "who plays this game in 2020" then i saw the comments... My nephews already dropped this game, it seems there are only boomers left :messenger_beaming: Keep building guys, we all need your money to fuel our free games:messenger_clapping::messenger_clapping::messenger_clapping:

Been playing with my girls and we have been doing great together! One on PS4, one on PC, one on switch. Won a few games already. Game is pretty fun

How do you get the fun costumes?
It's good to hear you lot are having fun.

As for the fun costumes (commonly referred to as "skins"), you only really need this one (heh), but that was only in the Battle Pass for Chapter 1 Season 7...

Battle Pass skins can only be obtained by purchasing the Battle Pass and unlocking the skins by earning XP (experience points) or buying your way to the respective level that unlocks them.

There are some other conditions that need to be met to unlock the 'secret skins' (one per BP) as well as alternate styles for some or all of the 8 skins; these typically cannot be bought and require a time investment.

The majority of non-BP skins can be bought using vbucks in the item shop. Some are tied to events and only show up in the weeks preceding said event, eg. Halloween, Christmas, Easter...

Other skins that sometimes appear in the shop can only be purchased with real world currency.

And then there are skins that are tied to promotions where it's a redeemable code that comes with some hardware purchase, usually a console or a smartphone.

It can be a bit of a rabbit hole so feel free to ask questions before you set out to buy skins.

I'm currently going back and forth between using gold foil Wolverine and rainbow foil Mystique armed with Blade's katana. Looking forward to Mystique's tactical look and Wolverine's Logan. :)

This season has been a blast ❤

Stillllll can't swap shoulders when aiming, ridiculous.
Dude, I never realized how big a deal this was until I was playing Control, hit the change shoulder button without realizing it, then wondering why the game looked so wrong all of a sudden. It was actually disorienting.

Now I am a proponent of this feature as it must suck for people who need to get used to the right handed targeting.
