Sony is pulling some BS with regional pricing for PS5 games in Europe

Woke up, read the news: one part of my brain finds it all hilarious, considering the hypocrisy and assholery of the die-hard Sony bros here, but the other feels bad for those of you who simply can not afford games that expensive. Would it better to have a slightly more expensive PS5, but the same old price for games?

In Finland they are actually trying to sell the disc version for €599 and the discless for €549. The importer is known for being a greedy cunt and they stick 20% on because... fuck you that's why.
Disc version is 529€ in Verkkokauppa.
Only seen 499€ on Amazon.de and they wouldn't send it to my address when doing the pre-order, and now its out of stock.

80€ for game is too much.:messenger_angry:
(80€ is 94$)

I wanted to buy PS5 this year since 3080 is nowhere near good enough to upgrade from 1080Ti, but now I need to thank both Jensen and Sony for saving me a lot of money this year. 80 Euro is absolutely insane and they're fuckin' stupid if they think that people will just accept this BS.

PS5 just turned from day one purchase to "maybe sometime in 5 years from now" when used games will be cheap and affordable enough. I honestly don't why anyone would think that it is okay to charge that fucking much for video games with current economic situation, global pandemic and hell, even without all this.

529 sounds more like the typical ”Finnish tax”. Too bad if Amazon won’t ship to Finland. I’ve bought many consoles from them.

80€ for games is bullshit though. Even assuming the US price has zero sales taxes, after doing the currency conversion AND adding sales tax, the Euro prices should closer to 70 than 80. All I can say is good luck to everyone buying the digital PS5...

I think tiered pricing is a good move. There's no way something that's triple AAA (Witcher, Cyberpunk, RDR2) should be launched at the same RRP as other lesser games.

$90 games here means I will never buy a day one game again. Its just silly.
So instead sony will get $40 from me a few months later. They have priced themselves out of $50. (Times 10-15 games for this generation)

Also this type of pricing sends some people to pc gaming to pirate.

I think they do ship to Finland I bought PS4, PS4 Pro from them, seemed more like "special" limitation set on the first pre-order batch.🤷‍♂️

I just realised $50 is about £38 as a conversion yet the games will be £60.

Hopefully no one uses the RRP. Games at the moment have an RRP of about £55 I think but I never see games at this price in stores.

For a $9 discount, yes, you should be thanking them.

You need to add tax, or rather remove tax from your local price and then convert.

$499 is $603 with 21% tax of Czech added on.
Oh shit, did not calculate that, you are right. I was just coming of how much X1X cost(ed) me before, it was way cheaper for the price tag.

Bolder please :). Some games are, some 69€, but yes prices rising is not great in and of itself despite this being overdue for single player AAAA experiences without MTX.
Why are we in any case paying more for games than the dollarydoo-countries? Probs fine for much of Western Europe but countries with low salaries?

"Some games are 70EUR." It's literally one. A game about a sackboiii. Now you're being disingenuous.

The standard price for all upcoming full-length Sony first party titles will be 80 EUR in the Euroland.

Case closed.

Nowhere near good upgrade? Around 90% more performance in raster games (sometimes it's over 2x for example in RDR2), 10x performance boost RT performance of games is small upgrade to you? There's also no DLSS, VRS, mesh shaders, HW decompression.

For comparison 3080 performance in Control is 52fps with 4K DLSS quality and 100fps with 4K DLSS performance. You would have to run this game at 4K on 1080ti just to get comparable picture quality but 1080ti can only render 7fps at these settings. The difference between Pascal and Turing / Ampere is massive already in certain new games and there will be more games like that in the near future. In fact the performance gap will only widen when games will use mesh shaders, VRS, HW decompression on top of RT and DLSS.

How can you expect a Person to not feel really robbed to pay €80 = $94 when NA simply pays $69...
We are globalized. What do you think happens if I would ask my customer to pay 36% more money for a DIGITAL product?
Working in Sales I can assure you that you will get a very bad reputation, especially, if the competition starts acting differently, let alone that a good portion of your A-B-C analysis will end up changing...let's see how Europe looks in 1-3 years from now in Sales Location and let's see how we end up looking back about the point where this started. Lastly, customers will completely change DAY 1 purchasing behaviour. Flash Sales will become much more expected and default to start playing.

Don't give me that: I will still buy the exclusive at €79,99. That's good for you, but I am talking about trends and future devleopments, not you as a person with all the individual freedom you want.

I can't believe how could they shot themselves in the foot like that.

They got the games, not only on launch day, but in 2021 as well: Ratchet & Clank, Horizon, Gran Turismo, Returnal, God of War. The best first year lineup in the history of PlayStation... but then they nuined it all by releasing their games also on PS4 and PC.

Back in june they said all of the "we believe in generations" stuff - that only makes the end result even more insulting.
demons souls its not in pc or ps4,but go on

1) I don't care about RT whatsoever and until 70% (at least) of AAA/AA and even B level games will be supporting RT
2) I don't care about 4K, I've 1440p 144Hz monitor and my next upgrade will be 21:9 1440p 144Hz.
3) I'm not playing most of the games tested and only care about those I'm playing / will be playing
4) Could not care less about RDR2, maybe 5-6 years from now.
5) DLSS won't be supported in old very demanding games and even though it's a good feature, it won't be available in 70% (at least) of games in 2 years, same goes for RT.

The difference between Pascal and Turing / Ampere is massive already in certain new games and there will be more games like that in the near future. In fact the performance gap will only widen when games will use mesh shaders, VRS, HW decompression on top of RT and DLSS.
Well go on ahead and buy it then. I'll wait RX 6000 news and RTX 4000 series.
