If you go back and look all that "We believe in generations" talk was about their hardware not games.

It was in relation to DS4 not working on PS5 games.

Looks like. I’m sat here thinking about it, and I can’t even be angry. They just played us all like fiddles.

Both companies are pretty much doing the same thing. We’ve all been arguing over nothing.

I don't like Sony supporting PS4.
It's clearly follow-up to MS being consumer friendly.
So basically what MS did for this gen is :
-low consoles prices :)
-being held back for whole generation by XSS and by old gen on launch on both consoles... :(
-No exclusives - making PC ultimate gaming machine :(

If GOW2 gonna hit PC, i will just buy PC.
They really need to say it now and let us save that 500 and add another 300 for one of those green monsters.

That's just classic arrogant Sony, they keep trying to make cheap shots at their competitors while doing the same thing
Not at all. Sony was not trying to mandate that everything run on both PS4 and PS5. Not like Microsoft was, not at all. Supporting your existing generation hardware with some games still is not a bad thing. It's about making money. That is FAR different from trying to say that everything that comes out on the PS5 will be on PS4.

Completely different things. Anyone who thought that nothing would be available on PS4 or on Xbox One for that matter, was smoking crack. Generations never switch like a.....light switch.

Sony sold me on PS5 today, $400 is great price.

But the cross gen Horizon killed my hype for it. Its just gonna be a PS4 game with better visuals/audio.

God of War 2 better be a real fucking next gen game Sony.
I was definitely going to pre order but they just paralyzed my hand from clicking on that pre order. They killed my hype with that Demon's Soul PC and cross Gen.

Halo infinite doesnt look bad, you are too biased. Wait for the reviews and final game, clearly you have never played halo or you dont own a system which can play it.
Halo looks like shit, not even a good looking current gen game.

Funny how you can't use the DS4 on the PS5 even though you can play those games just fine with a DS4 on PS4!!
You can use it on PS5 for PS4 games.

I was thinking the exact same thing, the experience for cross gen games on the PS5 will be significantly improved, better graphics/resolutions, little to none load times. Dualsense controller with adaptive triggers and and haptics. I could go on but I will say that I personally want the best experience which I believe will be on the PS5.

All in all, I think the choice to release PS5 games on PS4 is a consequence of that to release on PC. If you are creating a game knowing it has to run on a vast array of PC configurations in 2020, it makes sense you could also make it work on a PS4 somehow.

I'm not so convinced this is an intelligent path to take going forward. It makes a degree of sense now, where PS5 still offers a much higher price-performance offer than any PC you could possibly assemble. No, most people won't "just buy a 3080", because a 3080 alone costs 1.5 times a PS5, and you need at least as much more money to really start going anywhere. So the prospect of buying a PS5 for as low as $400 to experience the best version of newer games (or as close as reasonably possible) is still going to work wonders for Sony in the grand scheme of things.

But what happens 3-4 years down the line, when you can build a PC that is just as good as a PS5 for a price that is at least comparable, and Sony ends up with no true exclusives? They must have thought of that of course, so what do they plan? To make up for that with service fees? Expand PS+ to PC? Make some adjustments to PS Now to make it more mainstream?

So, how’s about them new Nvidia cards, eh? 😂
yeah, they are looking pretty good right about now. demon Souls going to PC on day one is not surprising at all. i called it months ago. I knew herman hurst was lying because i had found a similar tweet of Phil denying other xbox games would come to PC when he first announced Gears 5. They all lie.

I was cancelled here for saying this. I was told it would take 3-4 years before sony ported their games to PC. sure.....

Im buying an rtx 3080 tomorrow. Fuck this gen. Fuck this hobby too. 7 years, 7 years they had to prepare and they couldnt make next gen games. this basically means this gen would be 9-10 years long. thanks but no thanks. time to move on and find another hobby. that 3080 is gonna be held back by these bizarre ps4 games anyway.

Any body remember when Sony Fanboys said that XBox having games be cross gen was "Anti Consumer"?

care to comment?
Being a cheerleader for a company that doesn't give a shit about you must suck. Man if Sony did things we criticized on Xbox is not in order
to celebrate Xbox, to the contrary is for re think for what other reason this new gen of consoles will exists if they cannot give us something
different than a PC or even the last gen.

So if you do not need to see an improvement in graphics right now, stay with your current console or PC.

If you can spend more than 1000 USD on a PC, build a PC apparently Sony will end up killing the exclusive IP as Xbox did and with this much of the
reason of why consoles exists.

If you can not spend that much but still want to jump buy a PS5 unlike Xbox this one if it has games for the next 12 months that take advantage of
the hardware in a decent way.

This conference ended with a semi bitter taste to me.

If you love the stream is fine always you cannot build a PC with at least a 3070 if you think this puts the XSX/XSS in the best position which doesn't
has any big next gen game for the next year, well my friend everyone can kill themselves with the poison they prefer.

The consoles should be more than an upgrade in graphics for a game available in last gen or an affordable PC.

"Sony will never put their exclusives on PC, That's FUD you should be banned"

"That's a Kojima Game it doesn't count, a REAL first party gamewill never be on PC"

"Horizon is an old game, A game will never be there on day one"

Looking forward to adding this post to the list!
Nice try but I didn't say any of those and neither does it prove Sony's plans on releasing first party exclusives to PC on a consistent basis.

At least you can admit it.

Oh fuck yeah. This isn’t something that can be denied!

Both Sony and Microsoft are making all their games cross gen for that sweet, sweet last gen cash. AMAZING 😂

I‘m just stoked Demon’s Souls is launch. I don’t care about much else right now. That’s all I need to pre order a Ps5........ probably.

So looks like GT7 is fall 2021. By its absence from today.

Ratchet, GT7, Destruction Allstars, and I assume GoW2 are the only Sony PS5 exclusives so far.

HFW, Spider-Miles, Sackboy, all cross gen.

I expected Miles and Sackboy to be cross, but I bet Horizon 2 was a PS4 game that took too long and got pushed to cross gen. Meh oh well. Still fun, but meh. If its as good or better than Ghost of Tsushima and HZD, cool cool.

Fewer and fewer games to truly sell their hardware though. Seems like only Nintendo really gets it.

Releasing their games on PC worked so well for Zero Dawn... Wait, it didn't. It sold like shit and was cracked within a week.
Idiots trying to sell us consoles while saying their games will be available elsewhere.
Yep, console gaming just feels so pointless to me now if you can get everything probably cheaper elsewhere. Not exciting anymore

I'd say it was a 6/10, and probably drops to a 5 for me now that Horizon is cross-gen. My expectations were a bit too high for the new Gen. I expected too much for the lauch window (or even first year), even though ive been around enough to know the first batch of games never really like that spectacular.

Also, i want the disc version, but not $500...sad i am. lol. Def cheaper than the 60GB PS3 i got at launch.

All great in price,

- Good Headset price
- Good games at launch
- But HZ2 cross-gen in 2021, that killed all my hype...

Right there with you. If Demon's Souls is on PC at launch I will probably hold off on PS5 until next year.

I have a $400 car registration (thanks CA) and girlfriend's birthday/Christmas coming up in December, so I'm not going to spend that $500 if there's no immediate reason to.

Okay so this was a very weird day, console prices and preorder dates were on point. The show itself was short but we saw a lot of cool stuff. Demon's Souls might be the best looking next gen so far. The launch line up is very solid IMO. But $70 games? Horizon cross gen? that's disappointing, there goes the dream of having flying mounts in the game.

Huh? Microsoft made no such mandate... and just said they plan on supporting last-gen with their 1st party for 1-2 years.

but we are not most people
let's be honest there more than enought people (i think majority by far) who don't want to play on pc for multiple reasons

Well I guess the reason for the games being cross gen is that the engines are still modified current gen engines. They are basically scaled up to work on PS5/series X and within a few years when new engines are coded that take full advantage of the systems they will drop the cross gen stuff.

We will see what dev can take the most advantage of next gen systems while also delivering a decent current gen port. I guess Sony studios have it a little easier with "coding closer to the metal" and having a stronger base to start with
