Sony confirms $69.99 price for first-party PS5 games

Haha fuck off. All the more reason NOT to go digital. I guess that's the reason for the $100 price spread. But still a dick move.

Price increase without an increase in actual value of the products you're selling.
Basically.

Whelp I guess since I do have a PS4 and PC backlog that'll hold me a while, I have no need to purchase a PS5. Don't care about any of the launch window games, bullshit $100 price difference between the gimped and the good SKU, and price hike for games. I'm out.

For GaaS, sure, but single player games can only leverage them to a limited extent. Microtransactions, in those cases, likely cannot offset the demands of games requiring ridiculous amounts of people and time to create, getting more demanding all the time, and with a next-gen jump soon.

So, lmao all you want, but try to use your head a little instead of jumping to conclusions.
Nah im good. Ive seen enough SP games with shitty mts in my time to come to that conclusion. Clowns like you who bend over easily to corporate horseshittery is the reason why you'll be paying 80 fucking euros for FIFA every year soon.

So has Sony gone full blown Nintendo yet and informed us that their first party titles will still cost $70 5 years from now?

Meanwhile on PC thanks to regional pricing:

Going PC next gen is turning into a no brainer.
Can then pick up a Ps5 on the cheap in 4-5 years and buy the few exclusives I want for $20/each

The enviroment is changing very quickly everywhere. There's also an unprecedented crackdown on piracy on PC- so prices like these become more watertight everywhere.

Waiting 3 years for a PS5 revision and picking up the few PS5 exclusives for $20 bucks a piece seems like a really good idea right now.

Unless Sony goes full Nintendo with their pricing... they can't do that, right? Right?

And that's how Microsoft wins

Long term wise, if Microsoft is willing to absorb the cost of Game Pass and release their 2021-2022 line-up, it looks like they are, then economically, you're likely better off with going with Game Pass. It does explain why Game Pass is so cheap and its value is high now, also GP is on Cloud, PC and Console so its base is much wider. PS5 games are exclusive to PS5 hence why Sony had to increase the price of their games.

This post makes absolutely no sense. Maybe the fact game prices haven't kept up with rising cost and inflation plays a part in it too? bUt aLl dIgTal BawXeS!!!!
It is a bit more nuanced than that.

Games are different to physical products for a start. There is only one single input cost and then you make multiple copies of the game (yeah that has a cost to produce but it is a matter of cents).

Compare that to a company making physical products, say a table. Every time that company makes a table they need to buy a butt load of wood. The raw material cost makes up a high proportion of the retail price. So that company has wage growth to deal with and inflation of the raw materials and crucially they can only make one table out of the wood. They can't make copies.

With a game studio there's only wage growth to contend with and they can make multiple copies of the game. Same applies to music and movies. What this means is the more people you have consuming your medium the higher your revenue is.

And whilst this isn't the case for Sony's titles, we have seen publishers having record levels of revenues and profits yet the $60 price tag remained the same. But according to 'inflation' that shouldn't be happening. Take-Two for example has been having a whale of time yet they want to raise the price. And the reason is two fold. The market is larger so you can sell more titles and the revenue streams have increased, MTX and so forth.

This obviously sucks but we can't really expect the price to stay the same forever. It's been nice to have $60 last as long as it did through the inflation of everything else. This will just help me second guess bad impulse buys at launch really and make me wait for more sales which in the end is a good thing.

I already prepared myself for this. I don’t buy a lot nowadays anyway and I can usually wait...unless it’s From Software.

Yep, that's looking like my plan. "Slim" disc version, all black, 2022/2023, $399, and then scoop up a few first party titles for $20 each.

Enjoy locking yourself in Sony ecosystem! Where they will sell you a digital copy of self developed, self published title on their own storefront for the exact same price as physical version of a third party game. Because RiSiNg CoSt!!

Can't wait to see how rare and how shit sales of their games will be on PlayStation Store. Won't be surprised if they go full Nintendo.

Fuck, not even walmart will save me now (they sell physical games in store $10 cheaper than the MSRP *except* for Sony exclusives. Idk why)

‘K. Have fun with your oppression olympics, but over corporations, while others discuss the issue with nuance.

Hmm, I'm curious what some Walmarts will be charging for physical games in-store. Most Walmarts price their new games at $50 as opposed to $60. Either way, definitely sways me to go physical.

Sony first party games seem to be exempt, LoU2 and Tsushima were still $60 as of this past Friday when I looked at one.

$49 for Miles Morales (sounds like a shorter type game like Wolfenstein Youngbood or Far Cry New Dawn.) and $69 for a Demon Souls remaster?

And that's where services like gamepass shine. Fuck if I'm paying $79 Canadian + 15% tax for a game I play for a week.

Buy the odd big game, play off streaming services and buy from bargain bin price drops. All the more reason not to buy a diskless console I guess

I wonder if Demon's Souls will be $60 on PC? They are not making the PS5 very favorable to buy for me at least anyway.

A PC owner who can't scrape an extra $10 bucks....lol. We have had it good on PC and console for a LONG TIME. Name one other form of entertainment that gives you such value per hour...

Really. The Scene has been decimated. Most of them are now working for the likes of Denuvo, lol.
Eh, most big games get cracked within days still. But there are definitely notable exceptions, which was unheard of a few years ago. RDR2 is the biggest one that comes to mind, uncracked after all this time.

I will be waiting till next year or whatever to get a ps-5 standard disc edition. Not going to splurge money this fall on the console when it doesn't have any next gen exclusives to showcase the damn thing along with they are raising prices in their titles to $70 bucks so I don't want to be locked into digital. Yep, I will wait till next year or whenever they want to decide they want to showcase the console with next-gen only shit & when the disc version is available for me. What a shame.

All digital gents and ladies will have to pay more, considering how slow prices drop compared to physical version...and that they cant even sell the game back as used. This is the world we are heading into. All the power is going to be held by corporate head honchos.

Edit: Imagine paying £70 for FIFA.
Imagine paying 70 bucks for Sackboy.. lol

So that will be the price for all their pc versions as well? Or could be cheaper because there’s usually a year after release? Now the Xbox gamepass for pc just look so good, 10 dollars a month with new games from Microsoft’s studios and few new third party game’s every year.

Cool, it's not like you're locked into the Steam, Epic Game Store or GoG eco system and that you can put those Xbox-1 disc in a PS4 and can play those games on Nintendo or some shit. Oh wait, YOU CAN'T! The console itself is a form of DRM regardless of what you buy you're locked into someone's eco system regardless.

Again, still hilarious watching people in this thread talking about how "600 dollar is nothing to me" or that "500 dollars shouldn't break your bank for a console" in various threads but suddenly 70 dollars is breaking the bank? Really showed where their minds were.

Buying the all digital day one I can pre-order, long hair don't care.
