But Phil said console wars are stupid :pie_thinking: Seems like no one in the Xbox division got the memo.

If PS5 Digital end up at $399, that kills XsS for anybody that takes a closer look beyond being an opportunistic consumer.

Xbox One being $299 since 2016, and the Xbox 360 Arcade launching at $299 in 2005 killed any prospect of XSS moving the needle.

It's not as if Xbox was always exclusively a high end console machine that sold at a high price and this is the first time MS dipping their toes into the casual market. Xbox for 19 years has consistently offered the cheapest consoles on the market (with the exception of the launch of Xbox One at $499 which only lasted for less than 6 months), and it hasn't made much difference in marketshare.

Hell, the Xbox One S All Digital Edition was being sold as low as $199 in 2019 at one point. Perfect 'gamepass box', right? Well, nevermind that. End of 2020 will be different this time.

Bigger storage, more memory, 4k class, full fat PS5 experience minus the optical.

Will be interesting.
Gamepass makes the digital console viable. Digital downloads are just too costly.
And besides I think Microsoft will price series s even lower for emerging markets of south america, Asia and eastern Europe.

So, bear with me, please, I have been away for most of the day, and like 30 new pages sprouted up... so since the new showcase on September 16th will be around 40 minutes long, I don't think there will be a teardown and probably (yet again) no UI, resume, boot up time, switching between games and so on.

At least this is what I got from the PlayStation Blog; just some great games, and that was pretty much that was mentioned. You guys think there will be something more than that present, in that limited timeframe?
There's always that placeholder on PAX Online.

Yes because the losing system has had so much success at the end of generations at cheap prices lol. It is cute to think that you think the wii, dreamcast and gamecube were more expensive than the og xbox and 360. It is also cute you some how think this is about Microsoft winning the generation lol. This is about selling enough consoles and gamepass subscriptions to keep the lights on. I know they should just be a cheap Sony knock off. Inexile should stop making RPGs for a Uncharted clone, Microsoft should buy asbo to make a ghosts of tsushima clone, obsidian entertainment should make a spiderman clone. There should be no diversity only Sony games count.

Even in car industry the market share rarely changes from year to year. But every decade or so, Companies change their designs, and have new tie ups, then they gain significant market share ex : Hyundai, Kia. Design change is a facade, the companies are able to reduce cost of cars which along with design change changes brand perception.

You can't rule out the same thing also happens with games industry.

No Sony was going to win no matter what with 70% market share. The job of Microsoft is to find a way to bring in new customers or some of those 100 million who left this generation. Competition against 99 cent tablet apps was a blow. A low entry box plus gamepass is a possible way to get back some of those who left the market. Also with 70 dollar games it helps enforce the value of gamepass to families who might not get a console.

Yes because the losing system has had so much success at the end of generations at cheap prices lol.

By definition, if you're 'losing' you wouldn't be having 'so much success' to begin with so I'm not sure where your getting at here.

Consumers, particularly casuals (the audience MS is trying to market towards with XSS) doesn't care who is 'winning' or 'losing' a console war if the product provides enough value:

See PS2 games taking 5 out of the top 10 spots in the NPD rankings in 2006:

It is cute to think that you think the wii, dreamcast and gamecube were more expensive than the og xbox and 360

Dreamcast was about to be discontinued and the 360 was the same price as the Wii ($299) but I should have been more accurate and say for almost 15 years.

It is also cute you some how think this is about Microsoft winning the generation lol.

I said moving the needle, not winning the generation

I know they should just be a cheap Sony knock off.

Sony and MS are offering almost identical consoles where the vast majority of titles are shared on both consoles. Calling it a cheap knock off may not be far off the mark.

You explained Nintendo's strategy for the last 15 years which actually yielded them varying degrees of success, particularity with the Switch & Wii.

Gamepass has been out since 2017. Xbox One has been $299 since 2016. Xbox 360 was $299 in 2005.

MS is not offering anything different at the end of 2020 then they have for almost the last 3 years (powerful console/affordable console; subscription services). So your analogy doesn't really fit here.

Sony has been telling us that the Ps5 won’t be cheap but y’all still expect a $399 Console
Xu26yyr.gif

Where’d you hear that from?
Previously they indicated it wouldn’t be expensive.

I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.

How you managed to keep a straight face after typing that, I'll never know :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The most mindblowing thing would be after showing all the dope gameplay, and announce some super high most wanted games like GOW2 and FF16, then the show will close with GTA6 trailer announced as PS5 exclusive (time probably, and that was the 750M $ deal), then end it with release date and price announcement, preorders will go insane crazy after. But here i'm just going ultra crazy miles, ain't gonna happen like this lmao.
Imagine GTA6 as a PS5 exclusive, carefully optimized to take advantage of that hardware and nothing else... 🤤 ✊💦

Oh what a dream. But only a dream of course.

No they won't. If they release in some of those markets it will be more expensive, unless we're talking 3 to 4 years down the line..
Eastern Europe has price parity with the rest of the continent.

I'm beginning to think the teardown will come only after AMD reveal RDNA2 cards.
If you're implying it's because of NDA by AMD - then it doesn't make sense to me as we already sort of had XSX "teardown" vids from DF & Austin Evans back in March, and also got a glimpse at the XSS's internals from the renders. We've had a nice breakdown by the engineers themselves of the cooling solution XSX is using, how it works, the thought process behind choosing that design which ultimately lead to that unusual tower-like form factor (for a console), down to its fan size.

I just want to see something similar for PS5. I'm mainly curious about the cooling solution since Mark Cerny teased us with: "you'll be quite happy with what the engineering team came up with." And also because I wanna know how they managed to hit over 2.2 GHz GPU frequency, surely the cooling solution must be something else for them to allow such high clocks, and it isn't even going to throttle due to silicon temperature like it does on PC GPUs. What happens when the PS5 is operating in hot ambient conditions?

what sony should do after the revelation is to put the ps5 games in the store to pay and reserve, so they would divide the expense and November would be even better ... someone get them the idea ...
