Xbox Series S Won’t Apply Xbox One X Enhancements, Microsoft Confirms

Yeah, well the X1X is a 4K machine, and the XSS will output 1440p at most and is designed for folks without 4K displays? Makes sense to me.

This thread is not about the output resolution... they are talking about features the X will support and the S will not.

The amount of console fanboys trolling one another these few days on the forum is astonishing by two groups who claim "I don't care PS5/Xbox" respectively.

I would name this episode "Weak and Weaker".

Devs gonna drop that console in a few years.
That $299 price was more about shock and headlines than adding value.
Its literally a downgrade from 1X but yet it claims to be next gen.
Only ms can do some dumb shit like this😂😂😂
Wow!
I fucking hope so. Imagine developers still having to design their games around 8gigs of slow RAM and a 4TF GPU in 2023.

Naaah. XSS was designed to be mocked and to make devs angry

-Hahahaha, we are not mad! We were mad before saying that the stupid Series S it's downgrading all the multiplatform games and making the entire next gen worse for everybody, but forget about that for a second. We are not mad, because MS is doomed LOL! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Monday --> Thursday: It won't hold back next generation.

Friday --> Technically it is not powerful enough to run the best version of current generation games, but that's just because they want to be consistent with the dev's original intent.

This literally confirms that Series X game's have to be compatible with a machine that is not powerful enough to play the best version of a prior generation's games. Unfortunately this applies to PS5 3rd party games too. Great. Just great.

It makes perfect sense for technical reasons (ALU count, RAM). You can probably get about the same or better fidelity in a XBO game with a XSS specific profile though.

This shit is probably why they discontinued the one X. Why sell a new “next gen” product when you already have a current gen that can actually do things better?

OP stopped short of this if this helps.

"Games with dynamic resolutions and unlocked framerates will also see a benefit. And finally, many first party games that were enhanced for Xbox One X, such as Forza Horizon 4 and Gears 5, are going to be updated to make use of the extra power afforded by both Xbox Series S and X."

So I guess I'll just get an Xbox Series X instead.

Oh wait, I was going to do that anyways.

Guess, what? The people who will buy the Series S don't care. But let's not distract away from the fact that it still plays most Xbox One games, some 360 games and some Xbox games like it's big brother.

PS5 on the other hand...

Blame MS why XSS made devs angry. But yeah, it's easy to blame PS fanboys when MS fucks up something.

Ah I remember all of us pissing and moaning in 2013 how weak our ps4s were because they could not run the best version of ps3 games. I can't wait for the next concern troll.

Welp, I guess even MS cannot be bothered to do 2 version of the emulator. Or better, to edit up config so it does not pulls as much pixel. Bodes well....

Exactly. The Wii sold gangbusters even though the Xbox 360 could play high definition games and came out a full year ahead of it. The Switch came out six months after the PS4 Pro and could only do 1080p while the Pro could render in 4K.

Obviously, better resolution doesn't equal higher sales. It all comes down to value.
Exactly. Forums make you forget about the casual mindset. Ps5 and XSX are for the more hardcore. I’ll be getting both and maybe considering getting an xss down the line for my sons room. I’m not sure how good a 499$ console will do right now with how shitty the economy is. I’m sure Sony’s desperately trying to lower the price as much as they can because of this. 399$ is still a lot when tons of people are jobless. I’d be surprised if they could get it that low.

this doesnt make sense except the stated 1440p res limit on the S.

i cannot believe the One X is more powerful that the Series S.
Different parts, different strengths. Gears 5 can run 120 fps on Series S, but not 4K. So they can't use the 4K BC emulation model they created for One X.

They just mean they're not making a whole new emulator optimization just for the budget system. It's not a 4K system.

I remember my PS4 played the best PS3 game remasters without having to downgrade the games.

But seriously, what PS3 games were too taxing for PS4 to run. If you're accuse people of concern trolling you must be able to name a couple, right?

Well devs gotta get creative. Not sure what else there is to say?
If it was Sony putting the massive, 10 foot speedbump in the middle of the road, could we all finally agree in unison that it sucks and shouldn't be celebrated?

ya i hadnt read about the ram difference on the Series S. so that makes more sense, but still blows me away... that is a strange decision, we'll see how it plays out over the generation with the various revisions and price drops.

Maybe because the Xbox One X, which is less powerful, is doing it, yet a next gen console can't/won't...

Think in "Series". You want X features and improvements, you buy something in the X line. Don't expect things in the S line to do things the X line does. And that is going to go across generations.

Very simple.

Dude, it gets so much worse. The PS5 can't even play PS3 games, and that was 2 gens ago!!!!! Games are being reset by a decade by this!!!!!

Because they now have to do extra work for the same game. That means less benefit for them.

That's why they are angry.
Ehh happens at my job too. Shit changes and we gotta adapt. Not saying it’s better for them but it might be better for some consumers. And I’m getting the XSX.

The Series S is designed with a make it cheap, pile it high mentality. It’s one I fucking personally hate, but that doesn’t mean it won’t prove successful.

This is not about remasters this is about backwards compatibility using enhanced features mostly 4k. A non 4k console doesn't do 4k wow I'm shocked.

So technically xbox one x is still stroger than series S even with weaker cpu?
Who wants to get this?

I'll Take a stab at it.

Once more with feeling.

There is no narrative, ZERO, in which the Xbox One X is a more powerful console than the Xbox Series S. One X games are just patched in a way that it would need to be reworked to play on the Series S. That is all. Whatever One X game you are thinking about, if that game was built from the ground up for the Series S, It would play at least as well if not better. FULL STOP.

How'd I do?

Better than the Sony solution. "It's called a launch PS3."
Funny i can download ps2 games through psnow and stream ps3 games on psnow at the same original resolution .
And i am fine with it.

I dont care for backcomp i dont even understand it. If you collect your games i would assume you collect consoles as well.

Anyways xss is a low budget gamepass machine ans as such its worth every penny.

This news wont change my mind and i still get the xss next to ps5 digital

I hate the fact that people generalize and state the S is not meant for people with 4K displays, because it absolutely is. It has a hardware scaler to output to match display resolution and enjoy native 4K video content. It’s not that it’s meant for people with 1080p screens so much that it caters to people who want a window to the past and future of gaming that is an incredible value and don’t care about rendering resolution.
