So 1440p instead of 1080, AND up to 120FPS just like its bigger brother, AND upscaling to 4K anyway, just like Pro and 1X did, it really makes you wonder why do we even need those big, beefy consoles? As expected the SSD took a hit in capacity, this will undoubtedly hurt really fast, that expansion drive will be a must within the first year I recon.

1440p is like Xbox One X's 4K. Dont expect everything to hit that, but quite a few titles will. I am curious about the price of the expansion card.

It'll be interesting to see how the market reacts to the Series S. I know a lot of people that still play on 1080p TVs that the S might appeal to, especially at $299, including both of my brothers. The subscription model is something I was wondering about too. $25/month for a game console bundled with hundreds of games through Gamepass, remote play through XCloud and Xbox Live included in the price will be very appealing to a more casual market and could potentially draw in a crowd that might have otherwise waited for a price drop down the road.

Whats more, support for Dolby Vision via streaming media apps like Disney+, Vudu and Netflix will be available across Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X at launch, and Dolby Vision support for gaming will come first to our next-gen Xbox consoles in 2021

Is wasteland 3 getting an enhancement?

Is there a running list of Series enhanced games anywhere?

IGN has a pretty good list.

Wasteland 3 not on it for now. It should at minimum take advantage of the more powerful hardware within it's current versions constraints.

Not impossible, but nothing announced, they're fixing the issues first and probably they were doing some QoL changes up to the last minute, I think the team only had a free time now. I wouldn't put my bets on having the PC quality for XSX on the launch.

Based on Power alone how is the XsS not overpriced? The XSX is 3x more powerful while coming with 4k bluray and twice the ssd storage along with higher bandwith ram. I just don't understand how people could think the xss is priced appropriately.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. They are making money on series s while losing money on series x. A missed oppurtunity for Microsoft.
A convo between me and my friend.

so 4k games on xbox one x is going to be 1440p on xbox series s? Are you kidding me?!
I think 4k games on One X will still be 4K on the Series S, unless it has a next gen upgrade or patch.

4K series X games will be 1440p or lower.

They should give you the option to run the Xbox One X version or the Series X version if a game has both options available. That way you could prioritize resolution or framerate.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong. That’s disappointing.

Very much liking Dolby Vision support.

Useful info ... https://www.whathifi.com/advice/dolby-vision-hdr-everything-you-need-to-know

The most significant advantage of Dolby Vision HDR versus HDR10 is the addition of dynamic metadata to the core HDR image data.

This metadata carries scene-by-scene instructions that a Dolby Vision-capable display can use to make sure it portrays the content as accurately as possible. Dolby Vision-capable TVs combine the scene-by-scene information received from the source with an awareness of their own capabilities in terms of brightness, contrast and colour performance.

With HDR10 content, your HDR TV only receives static metadata; relatively basic ‘global’ information on the content being shown that applies to the entire film or TV show.

It can’t provide a display with updates on how each specific shot or scene should be shown. Nor does HDR10 carry the same facility for continually optimising the picture to the capabilities of the screen it’s showing on.

I would think that's more due to the RAM than due to the GPU, no?
RAM amount is another issue, but even if we take RDNA 25% architecture gains into account 4TF would be comparable just to 5TF polaris, not 6TF.

12 TFLOPs was our goal from the very beginning. We wanted a minimum doubling of performance over Xbox One X to support our 4K60 and 120 targets. And we wanted that doubling to apply uniformly to all games," explains Andrew Goossen. "To achieve this, we set a target of 2x the raw TFLOPs of performance knowing that architectural improvements would make the typical effective performance much higher than 2x. We set our goal as a doubling of raw TFLOPs of performance before architectural improvements were even considered - for a few reasons. Principally, it defined an audacious target for power consumption and so defined our whole system architecture.

"But also, in the early stages of design, it's difficult for us to accurately predict the uplift from architectural improvements across our worst cases. Our bar was a doubling in all cases, not just an average. So the most practical engineering way to ensure baseline 2x improvement across the worst cases logged in all games was to set a goal of twice the raw TFLOPs performance. So then we concentrated our efforts on making the effective performance even higher with architectural improvements and new features.
Andrew Goossen has said architecture gains are a big unknown in the early stages of design, so they cant take them into account. If MS wanted to match X1X GPU power, they would build 6TF GPU instead 4TF.
