Nintendo is rumored to be asking developers to make their games 4K-Ready! Incoming Switch Pro?

Nintendo can't even make new games in a timely manner to support their current version of the console. How the fuck you think this will impact development even if they start at high end and develop down.

The fact that this fall their biggest game is Mario package, and hyrule game shows that they can't keep up software wise with the demand.

I'm sure that 11 year old Jimmy was sat playing Mario Kart 8 just wishing that it was in 4K.

This is what my 11 year old "inner self" thinks about your comment.

In all seriousness though my son, who is 11, is well aware of how crappy his version of Minecraft is on the Switch vs the XBox or even PC. We are a multi platform family. He prefers the Switch, because it's portable and he has friends who only have the Switch version that can't play anywhere else. He is constantly complaining about the graphics and how slow it runs. He would be overjoyed if he got an upgraded Minecraft experience on the Switch Pro/2 due to more processing power.

Maybe it was just me but that Hyrule Warriors video they showed yesterday looked a lot cleaner and higher res than most Switch games???

Could be something or as I said, could just be my brain not working properly.

Probably the latter, since that game comes out in two months.

I'm actually a little surprised they did not do it with the regular switch, as it's the same chip as the Shield which is the best 4K streaming box on earth, and while the fidelity of games suffers and are usually running at 720P they upscale to 4K well enough.

i'll be happy if it's just basic 4K support as in it outputs the OS to 4K and upscales the games (no render at 4k lol). but this is nintendo...that seems quite optimistic.

imagine if Nvidia let Nintendo use DLSS. that'd be huge.

Does anybody else feel the way I do?

I wait for the price on the Nintendo system to go down, but it doesn’t go down until they announce a fully priced upgrade or replacement, so I end up not buying anything.

Almost no chance this is real. Does nVidia have a secret sauce Tegra upgrade they've been hiding that will magically deliver multiples of the Switch flops without bankrupting battery life, heat generation and requiring a massive redisign to cool that sucker? I'm as much a fan of nVidias stuff as the next guy but this ain't gonna happen.

Maybe Nintendo got a sweet deal on mobile 20xx series chipsets so does might be a factor but the power draw though.....

Maybe if they are doing some magic with the dock an actually putting some power into the dock this time instead of just basic display output.

As for 4K handheld, That's not happening for a long time. takes up way too much power for a battery.

Yawn,

Not prepared for a new console generation, Nintendo is sure to follow suit with a money gouging price on the level of the PS5/XSX

We all know if Nvidia presents Nintendo with a new hot off the press 4k capable Ampare based Tegra X chip, Nintendo will lean to the side and ask:
- ... whatcha got in the back?
- That's the Tegra X2, it's old hat now, you don't want that!
- We'll have 10 million of them.

Press X to doubt.

Why Nintendo would waste power on 4K when they can optimize it better with 1080p? Their fans aren't the type who chase after higher resolution.

This seems very un-Nintendo. The original Switch and Switch Lite are still flying off the shelves. Realistically what is the amount of people that'd double or triple dip on a new Switch? I know a lot of people bought a Lite after the original, but that makes sense as a dedicated portable. We've got games still coming out at 720p docked on that thing, I cannot picture them beginning to target 4K.

if it's some kind of tensor core base station for existing hardware, that's cool

if it's a new chipset that won't run my existing switch games, my gaming budget is probably going sony or ms

i prefer to play in handheld mode cause who is using the tv doesn't dictate my gaming...i have a gaming pc, but I hate slouching over it anymore

but if I have to, I'll set up a gaming station somewhere, because low-userbase nintendo consoles are a fucking boring place to be lol

This is the one sentence from Bloomberg on which all this speculation is based:
Several outside game developers, speaking anonymously as the issue is private, said that Nintendo has asked them to make their games 4K-ready, suggesting a resolution upgrade is on its way.

This could be as minor as Nintendo playing with DLSS or other 4K solutions in the lab (and I hope they are!) and wants some real-world games to try it out on.

You rely should have mentioned in the OP that it would likely achieve this via DLSS.

That's the speculation, and it strikes me as a smart way for Nintendo to go, but no one really has any idea.

The original Switch and Switch Lite are still flying off the shelves.

Yes, and are even hard to find. Wario64 frequently posts when the Switch comes back into stock -- and it's been out over 3 years! Plus, Nintendo is bringing all its biggest IPs to bear for the holiday and is likely to sell as many systems as it can make. The train's not slowing down, so what's the motivation for introducing a new system? I maintain there just isn't one, so long as you're not a forum fanboy who counts pixels.

imagine a 2-3TF Switch Pro using DLSS.... It could realistically compete with the Xbox Serries S in handheld mode.

i cant wait until see what NVIDIA and Nintendo have in their pocket for next switch

will it be nVidia?

The Terrazas X1 was really the last mobile SOC they have done shy of the revision to it.

They could have something in the works I suppose.

I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 just now in 6x native res, which is roughly 4K, with 2x SSAA (So 8K internal I think) and it looks freaking insane. I can make out all the enemies and everything perfectly on the other planetoids/platforms from miles away. If you add FXAA it softens it up a tiiiiny bit and removes the pedant-level aliasing artifacts and its absolute ace beans in terms of IQ.

I can do 4x SSAA most of the time but some 2D effects and transparencies cause slowdown (Damn you alpha effects I still have 40% GPU load left!) so I papped it. 8x SSAA is godlike and doesn't really require FXAA really but its like 15 fps haha. 16K is too stupid evidently, I need that 3080 for 16K Mario lol.

Can't wait to try Wind Waker HD and Donkey Country Tropical Freeze, although I'm not sure what the state of Wii U emulation is compared to Wii.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Stranger things has happened.
That's true, but it seems and feels unlike Nintendo to me.

The reason why I'm not disregarding it now is because of how quiet they are. Something fishy is going on.. I dunno if 4k is reasonable, but let's wait and see..

It's weird to think Switch is probably the end all platform for Nintendo. They'll probably just keep pumping out upgraded Switches for the foreseeable future because nothing else they do would sell better.

A mobile home console combo can't be beat by them I think.
After Wii U, I don't see them ever doing a home console.

They are likely to stay in mobile handhelds with a tv out option.

will it be mobile soc or even be hybrid console !?

Nintendo have chance to blow up this generation if cooperate with NVIDIA and release most power console
ever with gpu based on nvidia 3000 series , but that a " big IF" , but its nice to thinking about to

My bet: it's going to be a powered-up dock which allows for checkerboard 4K with the base Switch plugged in.

It sounds like such a Nintendo thing to do.

Polish MediaMarkt use Switch Pro name on their webpage. I have no idea how long that is like that.

It won't happen, but I'd get such a good laugh if suddenly Nintendo announced a home console that can do 30 TFLOPS using Nvidia's very best.

Forum discussions on here would be rendered unrecognizable from the past couple of months!

To some people everything Nintendo does is possible evidence of a Switch Pro. So sick of hearing about it.
