Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Talks Microtransactions in Multiplayer -- "We Won't Be Aggressive"

So we agree on almost everything, I just don't get how can you use their paid expansions as an argument against them. Personally, I do not expect any developer to release anything like HoS and B&W for free, i mean why? I see the difference between DLC - to which they kept saying they should be for free - and full blown expansions, and I am almost 100% sure they never said anything suggesting they'd release such content for free. Even if they only kept saying "we would be releasing free DLCs" and added nothing else, you can't seriously look at those expansions and say "but you said you will release DLCs for free". Come on.

Also, despite agreeing on most points I can still be positive :) If it disappoints, it is only a game. It isn't even expensive for a hobby, it's like 4 sets of strings for my guitar... So you just move on;)

Weren't these the guys who said they would never do microtransactions? Not a fan of multiplayer being tacked onto single player games these days. There is enough mulitplayer out there, we do not want that in a CD Project Red game.

It's a seperate game, coming later. It also could be free-to-play, which means they need SOME way to make revenue off of it.

This is way out of their scope, but wishful thinking. If the multiplayer was somehow a cyberpunk sandbox mmo with a player driven economy I would buy all the microtransactions till the end of time.

its still dlc, you can call it what ever you want, it still dlc....
Yeah but you cannot compare Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine to a fucking Oblivion's Horse Armor. Blood and Wine "dlc" won RPG of the year award at The Game Awards 2016.

edit: people, just wait for the reviews, which should be popping up as soon as November 5th and then you will see if the game is worth your money or should you pre-order AC Valhalla, which is a singleplayer game with microtransactions, but Ubisoft never lied, so let's do that anyway, right?

yeah, this is also a good point.
we don't know anything about the multi player game... So it is hard to form any strong argument against them to be honest.

What a waste of resources - will be another stupid multiplier enforced into single player game.
Also as much as I love CDP - multiplier needs good gameplay and that's usually their weakest point when comprared to presentation and story

I hope you realize, that they are making millions if not billions of dollars by just selling a full priced game.

I'm not just aware, I celebrate their triumph.
They voluntarily choose to sell games that people voluntarily choose to buy.

What seems to be the problem, again?

Or would this be, yet again, that puerile irrational but trendy inclination to shit on the success of others, the billions others make, as thought their money were tainted by the opprobrium of some primordial sin?

Get over it.

It's great that you are so worried about their already super elevated profit margins though :messenger_ok:

You bet.

Profit margins are what allow them to continue making games, including more ambitious games and, not unimportantly, reward the shareholders which have funded their growth over the years.

But some want cheaper MTX-less titles, seem be persuaded they're somehow entitled to them, as though that were a right inscribed in the Holy Constitution.
Tough luck.
CDPR markets and prices their games as they see fit.
Don't buy them then. No one is forcing you to. Don't play them. If you feel that strongly about MTX or high profit margins, take a stand and vote with your wallet.

Problem solved.

I will continue to cheer for them, celebrate their deserved success, witness as another of their board members becomes a billionaire, possibly, as their stock soars even higher. But I don't owe them a blind allegiance. I've extensively criticized them for the way they mishandled the downgrade fiasco and will do it again in a heartbeat, should they make a similar mistake. But, until then, it's all champagne bubbles from me.

Alternatively, I could grow bitter and resentful about their success, pretend from the comfort of my anonymity that I know the finer details of how to successfully run a now rather big company and multi-million dollar business, you know, like one, maybe two posters here seem to think they can.

FREE DLC
also paid dlc
First time i see someone complaining about Blood and Wine.
It's the best game i have ever played that only cost me 10 dollars on release.
There's not a single 10 dollar game on release out there that comes even close to what Blood and Wine delivered.

Its not simply about the downgrade, its about the team having no issue outright lying to people about stuff like this.

The way they handled the downgrade remains a stain.

But should the upcoming enhanced next-gen version live up to the promises, I think there''ll be ground for finally giving it a rest. A free updated version 6, six, years after the game came out seems extraordinary and severe enough an expiation .

It tells me they have no issue doing it and will likely continue that strategically. Say one thing, do another.

And that tells me you're a super human being who's never made a mistake in his life. How else, according to your logic, would anyone be able to trust you now?

No MTX!!!
we will in multiplayer

If you deliberately omit the fact they specifically said No MTX on SP games, and the fact that Gwent, a MP game, already features MTX, and has for years now, sure, you might think you're making a case.

People with reading comprehension and a functional memory will see through your trick, though.

also paid dlc

Again either you didn't pay attention or you're being obtuse.
Free DLCs referred to 16 or so bi-weekly TW3 add-ons such as quests, or clothing items, which they did offer for free after release.

Expansions, such as Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine, are not DLC in the sense they used the term - which, by the way, they explained from the get go, before launch - and, as such, were not free.

Haven't you heard the news?
Slavery is over.
Free labour is a no-no.
You got to pay for the software you sue, games included.
Just imagine, offering a huge expansion like Blood and Wine, which is longer than some AAA titles, for free.

What else do you want?
A duplex on 5th avenue?

It tells me the team is knowingly, consciously doing this.

Which in turn shows your, best case scenario, intellectual dishonesty.

Its why I'm not shocked at what they are saying now, its why I'm not shocked at the removed features, cut gameplay etc.

You're clearly an expert.
Cut features never ever happened in the history of software development.
CDPR are grossly incompetent.

Those red flags to me happened when they lied about Witcher 3's downgrade only to tell folks days after they bought the game knowing for months it was clearly downgraded while telling gamers it wasn't.

I agree.

If they could do that knowingly, what else?

Again, you're the perfect human being who's never made a mistake in his life.
Clearly.

How much are they willing to withhold to sell this game like the did Witcher 3? That attitude is what worried me as I didn't fall for their BS for 1 moment, even being a fan of the Witcher series and buying 3 day 1, shit I'm even buying this game day 1.....it doesn't mean I'm blind to this teams lying, them using this PR BS to try to paint them as this innocent developer and not like everyone else.

Oh, I see now.
All that grandstanding won't affect your gaming life one bit.
I thought otherwise. I truly did. Such fervour, such strong words, but still buying the game day 1.

They are exactly like everyone else in most areas, but not many developers I can legit tell you lied to their fans about the state of their game, UNTIL the game was already sold to them. They are on that list right next to Hello Games in my eyes. So if they could lie about that, I'm not holding my breath that they are lying about a host of other shit and just slowly announcing stuff being removed, added MTX etc.

It can't be that bad, if you're buying the game Day 1.
Words, actions.
Coherence.

Oh good. It does my heart well I won't have the MTX taint in my Single Player Adventure game.

If they add MTX to a Free to Play game I'm here to tell you that game is not Free to Play.

It was only a matter of time. Thanks to TW3, CDPR has become the biggest gaming company in Europe. They're valued higher than Ubisoft now. It's not easy to be the good guys when expectations are magnified and investors get impatient.

Another factor might be related to development costs. CDPR has reportedly spent over $120 million on Cyberpunk, a ~40% increase in costs compared to the Witcher 3. Doubt this matters much though.
