Windows Central: Xbox Series X $499, Xbox Series S $299, November 10th launch date

Series X is a beautiful machine. But Series S is now officially Series Craig for me. It does look pretty quiet though with that big fan. Almost as silent as Sony right now.

Custom ssds and the other bits are going to make the ps5 expensive....I think the digital version will be $499 and it goes up from there

when you include the international sales the two were essentially neck and neck. And when you consider that the xbox brand was next to non-existent outside of the americas and the UK, I would have to say the 360 sold pretty damn good.
I don't even know what people are trying to say here. I simply said that the PS3 wasn't a gigantic mess sales wise from the start when it was USD$599, because even at that price it still outsold the 360 launch aligned. They both sold at basically the same rate from day 1, with the PS3 selling about 10% better since it gained ~10 million to essentially catch the 360 over 8 years.

And repaired for free ! So what’s the point ? At that time I also had one of the first Ps3s that had the blu-ray died, Sony Benelux never even had one in before , also was repaired for free.

It was a weird gen for me, because my Wii overheated out of the box, they forgot to power the fan
I know Microsoft was handling it well to repair the consoles, but a fuckup on such a big scale shouldn't have happened in the first place. I'm glad I got one of the later 360 models so I avoided the hassle.

The only problem with your take on that is that even at USD$599 the PS3 outsold the 360 when it released. The "Great PS3 Turnaround" never actually happened, it came out and outsold the 360 from day 1, and continued to catch it every year after.
Did it? Because as far as I remember, the PS3 only caught up to and overtook the 360 only at the very end of its life cycle. I suppose they'd have to given that they eventually caught up to the 360; I just got the impression the sales accelerated later on in the PS3's life cycle but I haven't checked the data in a while.

Regardless, the PS2-Xbox had about a 85-15 market split between the two, and the PS3-360 ended up nearly at a 50-50. Even if the PS3 caught up to the Xbox eventually, giving up that much market share to the Xbox can only be seen as detrimental to Sony. Had they priced it correctly from the start and fixed the other issues of the console on the development side, one can only surmise Sony would have had a much larger market share in the end.

I can't even tell what is sarcasm anymore and then this post in combination with your username 🤷‍♂️

I am hopeful to see Xbox succeed this gen, i was merely implying Microsoft has a great opportunity in their hands to compete aggressively and consistently with PlayStation this next generation

What you're saying now and your initial comment mean two entirely different things, but okay.

The RROD and YLOD were both massive scale failures because they were pretty much the first 2 consumer devices that had the new lead free solder. No one had any idea the new solder would be that bad over time.

I think the question here would be if Sony will go $499 or $449 for the normal console.
The latter kinda makes more sense on one hand, but then it's a mild admission of "mkay, we are slower" ("but that SSD though, will make your PC hide in shame")

Wow....I will be interested to see what this translates to for U.K. pricing.

Now MS has jumped let’s see what Sony come out with.

I REALLY don't get why there's a Series S if the She Series X will indeed be 499, which is a totally reasonable price for a next-gen console!

I though the Series S was "neccesary", because of the expensive Series X - to counter it and give consumers a good alternative to a 599-699 console.

If Series X en PS5 are both 499, then I think Series S is dead on arrival.

We'll see. Sony has some custom hardware that's probably expensive. And they have waited far longer than usual to announce their price.
So does that mean you're thinking more along the lines of say, $600 for the PS5? If so, I don't doubt that happening either. But PRETTY risky.

Think kids and countries where 4KTV adoption isn't super high yet. Good second box for the kiddos.

I think that's what they've wanted to shoot for this whole time. But they could be pressured to go for $500. But I'm just guessing. I was under the impression it would be expensive though.

Next gen performance lol. It's a 4 tflops shitbox.

This would be like if they released a 400 gflops Xbox one.

Really puts the con in consoles.
It's more powerful than the One X, which is the current most powerful console. At this price point it's really good.

Lots of people don't care about ray tracing, or 4K. Lots of people are locked into Sony and Nintendo and would never consider a 3rd console at full price.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the better it is they announce the S price first.

Now Sony has to say their system is more expensive, and that will be the context of the announcement. For anyone paying attention, they'll know that there's two models. But this could trip up some casuals.

Sony knows it can outsell MS so they have no need to undercut them. They can even sell it for $50 more and it won't make any difference.

A shame really as playstation domination each gen is boring as fuck but MS has to take a large portion of the blame. They should call it quits after this gen and cosy up to Nintendo big time.

It's pretty cool that the series S looks like a hot plate and that the plate probably will be hot when it is running.

Not bad price points if correct. Price is about what the market will support, but letting speculation of a much higher price point run wild so that the $500 reveal is looked upon favorably is a clever and seemingly still effective old trick.

Not a fan of splitting the SKU's like this from the start as it creates consumer confusion, but $299 is a good headline number and will get the press and word of mouth.

Already seeing people hypothesise they put that black grill on to stop people buying the wrong XBox?

Like seriously WTF?

I think most expected 299 but each to their own, that ain't a pretty box.

300 for a 4TF machine? Realistically Sony can charge 600 for a 10 TF machine and still he great value. Because TF right?
