I honestly thought the craig meme was overblown, the game looked competent for crossgen that will run 4k60.

But with recent news of late additions to 343i, seems someone inside Xbox is either over reacting to the meme or making use of the meme to push for changes knowingly that things have not been ok for awhile...

I say it's the former. Remember, 343i's community director was boasting about how they were going to own the show had E3 happened. And that was June 8th, for fuck's sake.

I’d take him over Bonnie Ross too
I honestly didn't have that much an issue with Halo 4 but it was certainly. one of the weakest mainline games. Halo 3 and 2 are still imo the best and then there is the first Halo Wars and I normally don't even care for RTS.

Bungie was king of Halo. Anything now to get it out of the mire.

You are alone in that. The game looks horrendous to be called a next generation game. Halo Reach hell Halo 3 on the xbox 360 looked better. You may want to check your glasses or get some if you don't have any.

It is a cross gen 4k/60 open world'ish title with a more dynamic AI than most if not all open world game. It is also supposed to be 60fps on Xbone. Imo it's competent looking

Glad to hear Staten is back. With the leadership shakeup claims, hopefully means Bonnie Ross will have a less influential role?

Official update from 343:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/familiar-facts

As the team focuses on hitting our new launch window for the game, two Halo veterans have offered their helping hands. Pierre Hintze, the Head of our Publishing Team (MCC), will be joining the Halo Infinite team as a project lead for our Free-To-Play experience. He and his team have demonstrated an amazing ability to deliver new content, an excellent flighting program, and substantive updates across MCC over the past year. We look forward to having his expertise directly on the Halo Infinite team as we look to deliver a quality Free-To-Play multiplayer experience for everyone.

And last, but certainly not least, we’re excited to announce that our old friend Joseph Staten will be returning home to Halo for a bit. After helping launch Tell Me Why this week, he'll be coming on board as project lead for campaign as we push towards our 2021 release. The team has been working hard realizing our vision for campaign and we’re happy to have Joseph’s help to get it to the finish line.

For those of you who don’t know Joseph Staten, he wore many hats while working at Bungie for all of their Halo titles and even Destiny before joining the Xbox Games Studios family in 2014. If you enjoy Halo’s storylines, characters, and overall universe, he’s definitely one of the key people you have to thank. As product lead on Halo Infinite, however, Joseph will be focused on supporting the campaign team’s existing, talented, creative leaders and ensuring they have everything they need to create an awesome Halo game. His return to the franchise excites me and we’re all looking forward to having him on board!

Cut Bungie and the guys who did the original halo trilogy a check to work along side 343, because this game was probably soo bad it isn’t coming out for another 2 years.

I heard he was back at MGS and I'm kinda surprised he wasn't brought on.

I want to believe again!

Also: Joseph Staten making a return to Halo as part of wider reorganization to steer the game onto right path

It is clear that this guy was right, it seems that a leadership shakeup is going on.

"Too Unpredictable"
That's a weird way to say the current leadship at 343 isn't cutting it. Seems like this is good news all around.

The development of this game sounds like a complete mess. That doesn't give me a lot of faith in how the final product may turn out.

It's a mess.
  • 5 years of development (so far)
    • Numerous departures and lost time
  • New engine
  • Marketing deals that have fallen through + partners that need to be reimbursed
This is a golden opportunity for Staten, though. He can make Bonnie Ross look like a real moron.
To do anything worth while means cutting off the Xbox One S, redesigning the engine to focus on Next Gen exclusively (currently cross gen). Which means changing assets and adding post processing effects to show off the engine upgrades etc... You can't do that in a year which means more dev time and more dev budget. If this game is released in holiday 2022 could this be the worlds first $750 million dollar budget game?!

Yeah, I think 2022 is looking more and more likely.

Also, let's all just agree on this:

The budget is at, or will be at, 500 million dollars when all is said and done.
Based on what? For both things actually.

343 literally just shot down 2022 rumours yesterday.

also you think they’ve spent a hundred million a *year*? How are you calculating that?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Wonder if they're going to clean house. New management is one thing, but it's tough to right the ship when your studio's full of incompetents.

Also re: new engine. It's not 100% new. Retool of Blam!, engine for Halo since 2001.

Not unusual for devs to do a major overhaul of an existing engine. Halo has had a few and this is certainly the biggest to date but I am not sure the "all new engine" verbiage applies. Unprecedented major overhaul and rework but not 100% from scratch.

1. This game ant coming out next year lol
2. As much as its a great get, one player on your team doesnt change the entire roster

Also add the story is most likely already done if they are really launching next year. Someone is lying here, either the rumor or 343i

This is actually really big news. Awesome to have him back in the mix. Halo was his baby in the golden age of the franchise.

JESUS !!

The top Xbox franchise,
Launching on a new console,
4+ years in development,
with what must be the biggest development cost in the Xbox stable,

Lol this game's fucked isn't it ?

bender

What time is it?
Maybe this is a good omen for Xbox like wall guy and the 360. Then again, that might be an omen for catastrophic hardware failure rates.

Is this really going to make much of an impact? or is this just another PR spin attempt. Too many chefs in the kitchen, if you can't burn it down, your trapped by the current failures. Curious if the objective is to still get the game out 2021, or will it be re-done, again. If the same Managers are still in charge, what really changes.

Waypoint confirms that Joseph Staten returns as project lead for campaign.

As product lead on Halo Infinite, however, Joseph will be focused on supporting the campaign team’s existing, talented, creative leaders and ensuring they have everything they need to create an awesome Halo game.

From my point of view, as product lead, his role would be to manager the managers, so to speak: make sure things are moving forward at the highest level, not necessarily impacting creative decisions. Make sure everyone is rowing in the same direction, so to speak. In any case, he helped steer Bungie through Halo 2's development. Anyone who endured that and still managed to get a game as good as Halo 2 out earns the benefit of the doubt. You don't bring in someone with Staten's background in project management into this role if development is going as intended. With CA recently confirming their re-involvement in Infinite as well, I'm betting 343i have run out of grace over at the green team.

That definitely confirms problems aren’t just related to graphics.

Bringing in a Campaign Director when it’s supposed to go gold in two months is a tell tale sign of problems running deeper than what was shown.

Really weird situation.

You could say everything against 343i story and art style but they always delivered in the technical aspects. Even MCC after it was fixed is an quite an achievement.

The story should be done with all the books and comics read to ship alongside the game launch this year.

Devs will definitely go to him asking questions since he'll be a more accessible resource now. Due to this I think he'll have an impact on some future creative decisions.
