Horizon Zero Dawn (PC) |OT| Hunting Robots

I noticed the snow deformation as soon as i started playing, i guess it is in the PS4 version?.
There's some in the base game, but in Frozen Wilds (which runs an updated version of the engine, but only in the DLC area) the snow deformations are just insane. After a large battle the terrain can be completely trampled all around, the deformations stay visible for a really long time.

Edit: here's what it's supposed to look like:

Oh, didn't know about that. South-west of the starting area there's a corner with 4 grinders. 2 patrol, 2 are stationery. There are only 2 configurations to their patrol paths. You can run in, stealth kill all 4. There are 2 grinder piles to loot with a high chance of purple mods. Then you just run back till you see the bonfire, turn around and run back. Everything is respawned and you can do it again. It's also xp. It's sweet cash, some early levels, and mods that will last you until you can hunt the big dinosaurs in the desert.

Thanks I'll check it out tonight

I hate saying this as a PC gamer but you really need to run this at 30fps to see its 'full glory'. Its the only way to limit glitches, and to get the textures to load properly. Its obvious this game was orig coded for 30fps, it just breaks at higher framerates.

it runs perfectly here at 60-80fps. You just need to desable vsync in nvidia control panel (which is ok if you use gsync) and you will have smooth frame pace and zero stutter.

Happy to start this game again in glorious 60 FPS and ultra wide. Game is running great for me so far.

If you have a large display then check out 32:9 in the menu. Holy crap. Your frames jump up as well. Too small for me to play that way, but wow.

Ive given up on a solid 75hz on my 1070 + 3770k.

I must say though i am EXTREMELY happy with my modded settings. Im running at 2715x1527(DSR) with TAA (Motion blur off, Shadows High, Clouds and AO Medium)

God damn, i never knew a locked 40 fps with Freesync (And RTSS) could feel this smooth. Its basically like playing at a locked 60 fps and it looks bloody good too with a tad of sharpening from NV Freestyle. That blurriness is almost gone at higher res.

Would highly recommend peeps with older hardware to try it out (esp if you have adaptive sync).

Remember to not use any vsync in-game (and not even in your gpu settings if it's in your monitors adaptive range, you'll never see tearing if its stable)

Is it confirmed that the Sony effects are not in the PC version?

I'm torn as to whether I should continue playing or just refund this. I'm 5 minutes under 2 hours lol...

Jeez that fov is really annoying

-- It zooms in wayy too much when using the headgear. Plus the controller sensitivity is much lower. It makes looking around so slow
-- FOV zooms in, in some battles but not in others (like alot). Its so random

I had an opportunity to sell my rx 470 and grabbed a 1660 super and it ended up only costing me 200$ CAD. Damn I should of made the move sooner. The game is so smooth and got way better

Apologies for the broad question. Would it be better to play this game on my PS Pro or on my PC with GTX 1070?

For the simple fact you can find it for 10 dollars, the pro lol. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate them porting this to PC but it should've been 30 dollars max and that's just my opinion. It's in the realm of impulse purchase.

Yeah but playing this with kb and mouse is damn great. I'm getting a ps5 for the sequel but I don't know if I'll enjoy this with a controller.

Oh definitively, I just wish more PS games had native KB/M support because open world games just feel natural with a KB/M with all of the weird functions these type of games tend of have. I could not play Mankind Divided for my lethal playthrough when it was free on PSN, I just launched the PC version and called it a day. HDR looked nice, though.

Yeah it should be there with usb ports and Bluetooth connection already on the console, shouldn't be too hard to add the support.

I tried playing it with my switch pro controller and gave up and went back to kb/m. The aiming for these games with a controller is just not for me. I can play on hard with a kb but I'm having a hard time on normal with a damn controller

Maybe it's just me though

Patch 1.03 is out:

This patch aims to resolve additional crashes that have been affecting players. If you still experience issues after Patch 1.03, please continue to send us your reports here so we can help you as soon as we can. Our team is continuing to investigate open issues and we will continue to update you when more news is available.

As always, thank you for your feedback and support across our channels. Below you can find the Known Issues as well as the patch notes for update 1.03!

–Guerrilla

Known Issues

  • Some players are experiencing an out of memory error during the game optimization process.
  • Some players are experiencing graphical settings issues, such as Anisotropic Filtering or HDR not working correctly.
  • Some players are experiencing performance issues on specific GPUs or hardware combinations.
  • We're aware of and continue to investigate issues that are not yet solved on both the player-compiled lists by u/EvilMonkeySlayer and u/Rampage572 – thank you!

Patch Notes

Crash Fixes

  • Fixed a GPU resource leak which could build up over time and cause instability.
  • Fixed a GPU hang that caused a crash that could occur when Asynchronous Compute was used.
  • Fixed a crash when AI would try to aim at an invalid position.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when sound obstruction was calculated in highly detailed areas.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur when moving the game to a monitor with different DPI settings while in the menu.
  • Fixed an issue where some players would crash on startup due to incorrect memory allocation.
  • Fixed a GPU hang that would occur when the window was resized to a very small size.

Progression Issues

  • Fixed a progression issue where some players would remain a child and not transition to adult Aloy.

Functionality Issues

  • Fixed an issue where snow deformation was not working correctly in the Frozen Wilds area.
  • Fixed an issue where the Concentration skill could stop working.

Other Improvements

  • 4K Scaling – Fixed an issue where the game wouldn’t render at 4K properly on boot.
  • Frame Rate Limiter – Improved Frame Rate Limiter functionality to be more accurate.
  • Localization – Localized specific error messages.
  • Windows Version Check - The game checks if Windows 10 Build 1809 or above is used (lower versions cause instability in DirectX 12).
  • Minimum Spec Warning – Improved minimum spec warning message and options.
  • Saving Issue Warning – Clarified text that is displayed when you do not have access to your My document folder or enough disk space.
  • Player Profile Validation – The player profile is now validated and corrupt profiles (caused by manual editing or tweak tools) rejected.

But it's not GG though, is it? I think it's another studio.

Anyway, will the 3090 be powerful enough to overcome a shitty port? We'll see.
I think another studio was responsible for the port. Now GG is trying to fix it. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

I guess I've gotten lucky. I've been running it on 1440p 60fps maxed out with a 2080 with no crashes more major stuttering issues.

The game runs absolutely fine on my 1080Ti in 1440p (I've posted GFX settings already). The only demanding place I've found in the game so far (and I've explored 100% of the map in the base game) is this:

I'd say the jungle area is the most demanding in the base game overall.

Recorded some gameplay

Yep, snow deformation is working, I think people jumped to conclusions (including myself!) based on vanilla game snow area that DIDN't have any SD even on PS4, they added that up in DLC. Everyone forgot :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Performance is ok with FS monitor, without vsync game is ultra responsive, much better to play than console version.

To me it's the best snow of the gen, better than tlou2, gow, ds and rdr2.

I am waiting until AF AND shimmering to be fixed to jump in. Hopefully on the next patch.
I cannot bruteforce AF on AMDs shitty control panel as it only works on dx9 games.

WTF is this BS, AMD? How on earth's name is this still a thing and not fixed?

Yep, several enhancements on the control panel like AA and AF are supposed to work on dx9 applications only.

Honestly I have no problem with my rx 580 but AMDs control panel Is clearly an inferior solution vs NVIDIAs. I am thinking of selling my old GTX 760 and this rx580 and jump back on the green team when their 3060 or 3050ti cards are available.

New patch 1.07 was just released. Some great graphical improvements. Props to the devs

Graphical Improvements

  • Anisotropic Filtering now works correctly
  • The mandatory/unskippable shader optimisation step at first launch has been removed
  • Shaders are now pre-optimised in the game’s Main Menu, but can be skipped
  • Shaders are also optimised dynamically in-game
