Dusk Golem reiterates that the Xbox will be more powerful than the PS5 (Admitted to starting console wars, demodded)

(Doubt)

PS5 components, outside of the SSD, seem to have been selected to keep the price down. The entire sense I get from their unique way of handling their clocks is maximum value from components selected with a somewhat mainstream-acceptable price in mind.

Lol they still need the hardware, there high clock on the GPU probably also isn't helping the yields at all, needs probably better cooling and bigger housing with it. Then a more expensive controller packed with it and a ultra expensive SSD. Where's the cheaper part here?

It’s fine, we’ve already done our pre-work on discrediting Digital Foundry so we can call them MS shills.

I think next on the list is convincing people that reconstructed resolutions actually look better than native. We’ve already started with the DLSS stuff so we’ll ramp that up a bit more over the next few months.

Mat disagrees with him and says they're very close in power, as the specs even suggest.
Yeah cause we all know community managers at third party companies have the full power breakdowns.

Well, it is more powerful...in certain metrics and lacks behind in others. I guess that is how you can sum this one up.
Whether or not any of it will have meaningful impact remains to be seen.
The only substantial loss they take is in the SSD and it remains to be seen how it is utilized.

It’s going to render more graphics and effects, just not as quickly (theoretically)

Lol the talent is in the 1000 games a year not exclusive. You want to printed the 2 games per year equals the entire industry?

But exclusives typically provide the best representation of any given consoles capabilities. Xbox One X was more powerful than the PS4 Pro but no exclusive in my opinion looked better than any 1st party Playstation exclusive. Although Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 4 could make a strong case.

Narrative again is XSX is more powerful than the PS5 yet so far they haven't shown anything to prove just that even though on paper it's true.

The 10 Teraflop GPU (pushed hard to get there)? The slightly weaker CPU? The reduced specs across the board? The fact that I mentioned the SSD?

Is today play dumb day, lol?

Better cooling is a guarantee, though. I don't think the controller will be too bad -- Nintendo ships with the same rumble solution, PS4 ships with most of the same features, and we don't know what kind of costs the shoulder buttons carry, whether cheap or expensive to execute.

Regardless, the system on the whole looks designed to keep prices down/acceptable or Sony from taking a bath to keep it affordable. If its not, and the system is magically more expensive than another piece of hardware it's better, why even go with these specs and this design in the first place? Common sense.

Not surprised if true.

Imo is more the case of smarter engineering from MS side. They managed to do a PS4 role reversal, just spending the design efforts to make a good practical performant console.

Sony has to bin the best gpu die to obtain that 2.23ghz variable clocks, they need beefier psu to power the high clocks, they needed a solid heat sink fan with irregular shape to fit the slim and tall console form factor, they have to custom make the 12 channel ssd, the Dual Sense gimmicky vibrations....it all adds up.

You can debate games, but hardware and network wise, MS has left Sony in the dust this round.

Too many strawmen here.

The X was still constrained by the XB1 and the PS4. The same will happen to the PS5 and Series X.

If you actually believe 3rd parties arent going to be making games for last gen systems until the next ones hit a certain number you are fucking delusional.

You obviously missed the differences in RDR2 and what they could do between the 2 systems.

Most Sony exclusives only hit about 6 million before they start bundling, even if the person never plays it it counts as a sale.

They can’t even hit 10% most of the time when they release an exclusive, but everyone wants us to believe that’s what really matters.

gap is bigger than it is this gen in terms of raw power. You can do a lot more with 2TF than you can with 0.5TF.

As i predicted earlier, Series X will offer the best gaming performance, smaller volume/weight/heat/consumption, at the same or lower price than PS5.
Add in Gamepass, and 1TB ssd expansion, Phil is attacking the covid-hit gaming community with the best value, best designed next gen experience.

I do hope Sony is not that drunk with PS4 success, to think they can avoid price competition with Series X.

My guess is when your talking 4k native at 60fps the series x can cope. But the ps5 is struggling. Of course its capable of 30fps. But thats last gen. This gen, people want 60fps in multi plats which traditionally focus on multiplayer elements.

RedGamingTech talked about how leveraging the PS5's power has to do a lot with the geometry engine, which could take some time for the developers.

Man if only Sony hired you as an external consultant, that why they wouldn’t have been left in the dust. Missed opportunity that.

PS5 being more expensive despite the fact that BOM is lower?
Significant reduction in resolution on PS5 in no proportion to the humble spec difference?
It doesn't work out...

Yeah this is kind of a given. PS5 is likely to be on the same receiving end as the original Xbox was - just not to the same extent. I don't think we're going to see massive disparity in loading time, maybe a few seconds going into several as the generation goes on. But does that really matter if the visual you are pushing are noticeably worse, or the frame rate not as stable. I mean the frame pacing in Bloodborne is a deal breaker if you read some people online. To me, it's like such a minor annoyance, it's not even worth mentioning.

If it's more powerful and cheaper then that's a big feather. Just a shame they haven't got a stronger launch lineup. Sony haven't either really but as MS are trying to pinch market share they needed a wow factor. And in my own opinion, Sony are in a position where they have acceptance on a reasonable price. They could announce $500 and be confident most people will pay that on the back of this generation and brand loyalty. The fact we haven't got a price yet is making me wonder if we are going to see $500 DE and $549 disc edition. Given the Halo announcement and how confident and reactively Sony dropped memes and stuff after the last E3 makes me think they are struggling on price point. Right now, if Sony were to announce $400 it would probably start the generation even stronger than last time for them. So why arent they?

All they are doing at the moment is frustrating people - we've been patient, since March and still we have no price, no console UI/features, no teardown etc. it's time for Sony to stop worrying about Microsoft and start talking to the customers.
