Head of Xbox buys studios to create games. Sony fans wants him gone. Makes sense.

I want him gone too, he's been a disaster. Even under Mattrick things were better, there was ambition to deliver games, they spent money on third party deals to ensure they had games even if there was nothing from them...

Phil has done none of that, he's delivered by the numbers projects most of which were already in development before him, a bunch of crappy 6/10 games and nothing else. They're not even prepared for the launch of their next-generation console and they've had years to prepare, years...

They didn't even have a contingency plan in place in the event Halo couldn't make release, they've got nothing... There's no leadership, there's no direction, they're not willing to invest in their userbase so why the hell should we invest in them?

Phil has been great. Turned around hardware, expanded first party, and established services like game pass and xCloud. He clearly loves his job and understands games. Best thing to happen to Xbox in a long time.

Honestly the only thing that Phil could really improve right now is Xbox's approach to timed exclusives because Sony is crushing them in that department.

I think the real question to ask right now is "What is happening over at 343?" and more generally, "Why have Halo and Gears, the two most widely marketable exclusive franchises fallen out of favor?". I can assure you that Phil is likely disappointed as well-he gave the team the green light for a 5 year dev cycle and the game didn't make it.

I would say that the problem is with the project managers. Obviously they have missed milestones due to COVID, but I would bet money that they have been missing them throughout the project. Hence the leads leaving last year. This should ( I am not talking about COVID) have been anticipated last year.

For reference Kaz Hirai took over as CEO of Sony in 2012 and turned the entire company around.....(retired in 2018)
Sony stock was at 18 dollars per share when he took over. Now it's worth nearly 80 dollars a share and the company hit 100 billion market cap recently.

It shouldn't be this hard for Xbox to get a few good games out....

This. He seems cool as shit, so nothing personal, but he's been promising console defining exclusives since he took over in 2014. What have we gotten? Sea of Thieves? State of Decay 2? Two failed Halos?

Other than Gears and Forza (both of which have been fantastic, but still nothing new), it's all been trash.
