Zen 3 about to rock Intels world.

Early AMD Ryzen 4000 'Vermeer' Desktop CPUs seem to feature some impressive clock speeds as the latest report from Igor's Lab suggests an even higher boost frequency for the flagship Ryzen 9 4950X processor.

AMD Ryzen 9 4950X 16 Core 'Zen 3' Desktop CPU Now Spotted With Faster 4.9 GHz Boost Clocks In Enigeering Sample State

Damn, AMD finally going for dat 5Ghz (or close to).

Is this their 5nm chip? EDIT: 7nm+.

Meanwhile, Intel are lowering their clocks for their 10nm chips, aren't they? Or is it on their 7nm? I remember seeing lower clocks.

Anyway, if Intel doesn't come up with something good against Zen 3... it's gonna be a bloodbath.

That's truly insane even if it's just a boost clock speed. It'll likely be a good $600 or so but that's a pretty big hit.

I'm hoping that when I need to upgrade my i5-6600k/RX480 build in a couple years I'll be able to get some good performance for some cheaper CPUs (wanna at the very least go above XSX CPU power, and be close to PS5 GPU wise as I am on 1080p for now)

I'm curious to see how much AMD has reduced the cache latency for Zen 3. It's the reason why Intel CPU's still perform slightly better on games with their ringbus design.

I was going to build a computer but might wait now... So much change compared to years past. Touch intimidating

With new video cards from AMD and Nvidia a month or two away, and Zen 3 releasing before the end of the year. It's not a bad idea to wait and see how things stack up.

If rumors are correct this is going to be one of the times you end up kicking yourself in a month if you built now.

Next gen consoles absolutely bodied by early 2021 with this CPU and a 3080.

Can’t wait to play at native 4k/60fps with full visual settings and RT next gen with very few compromises at all.

If you have the cash then wait for a build with this CPU and combine it with a 2080 or one of the new AMD GPU’s (there’s a 20tflop AMD GPU rumoured for this fall), 32GB of DDR4 3200 RAM and one of the new M2 SSD’s.

Beast of a machine for around $1500.

I have an x 470 mother board from Asus and I hope they provide a BIOS for Zen 3... They will never see my hard earned cash ever again if they don't.

Edit: I have a ryzen 1700, bought it with the idea that in 2020 I would upgrade to whatever is the best I can get... I may settle for a lower core CPU, but I'm really tempted in going overboard with the upgrade.

All the hype so far this year has been for the upcoming GPUs, so I wasn't expecting anything special from the upcoming Ryzens. Hopefully they will be worth waiting for too. Are we expecting anny revolutionary stuff, or just higher clocks?

if this 4.9 with standard boost clock then it may go over 5 a bit after overclocking.

16 Cores.
Boost clocks to 4.9Ghz.
17% IPC gains over Zen 2.

It’s gonna be like 1200 bucks I bet.

Intels 10 core range topper is ~500 dollars.
AMD 12 core range topper will be just under that price.

This is just a fuck you to Intel so expect it at around 700 dollars.

Whats worse is that AMD dont even have to release this now, they are just properly saying fuck you to Intel.
Zen 2 keeps up at a much better price/performance bracket........if they actually bring those 17% IPC gains and still undercut Intel on price.
Fuck me whats Intel going to do......there would be absolutely no reason to buy an Intel chip?
Right now atleast fanboys with unlimited money can say my 500 dollar chips scores 10 more frames than yours even if my GPU cant keep up, but Zen 3 should match or outright beat Intels nextgen chips let alone playing around with this nonsense 10th Gen.

I'm assuming this needs one beefy PSU to run at 4.9ghz

Nope. Probably only 1 core can hit 4.9ghz and thats only when you open up notepad or something.

All cores will likely be tapped out at 4.3 to 4.4ghz. And you wont need a beefy power supply, probably ~200w for the cpu.

Nah AMD chips are pretty efficient and 4.9 wont be all all-core boost. My 3900X boosts to 4.7ghz on 2 cores and 4.6 on another 2 at stock settings.
